The application of refrigeration technology is essential in the design of an HVAC system, which is used to provide favourable climatic conditions both for life on board and for special applications.Therefrigerationequipmentarethusconsideredthe“heart”oftheHVACinstallationandtheirdesignandconfigurationrequirecarefulstudy,analysingcriteriasuchas: - Suitable thermodynamic performance. - Redundancy and reliability of the equipment and components. - Work conditions (climatic, movement, vibration, noise, etc). - Space limitations. - Accessibility and low maintenance. - On-board control and monitoring.

Based on the foregoing, HVAC systems are designed mainly undertworefrigerationequipmentconfigurations:

a) Refrigeration plants with di-rect expansion of refrigerant (UC Condensing Units). Fromhere therefrigerantispumpedintheliquidphaseandexpanded inthegas/air exchange coil installed in theairhandlingunit(AHU).Inthispro-cess the refrigerant gas absorbsthelatentandsensibleheatfoundintheairtobehandledandreturnstothecondensationunitinthegasphase.Thisisthesystemmostcom-monlyusedinmostinstallations.

b) Refrigeration plants for chilled water (CHW Chilled water units). Here glycolated water is used as secondaryfluid, and is pumped to the water/air coolingcoil installed intheairhandlingunit(AHU).Thesensitiveand latentheat in theair in thiscaseisabsorbedbytheglycolatedwater, returningagaintothecoolingplantforre-cooling.Theglycolatedwater iscooledat thecoolingplantbywayofadirect refrigerantexpansionevaporator.This systemhashugeadvantages,since,firstly,itssizecanbeadaptedinlinewiththesimultaneousthermalloadsenvisagedintheinstallation and, secondly, it can be adjustedgentlytotheinertiaofthesystem.This is why water cooling plants are often used in boats with high occupation levels and large public spaces (cruise liners, ferries, etc), and in those whichhave a large amount of climate controlled technical areas (hydrography and seismology areas,etc).

Our compression equipment and cooling plants are designed and constructed with high quality standards, given their marine nature, and using only first-class components.

Useofrobustmetallicframes,basedonnormalisedsteelprofiles,formingacompactunit.Compressors in linewith requested refrigeratingcapacitiesand requirements (open/ semi-hermetic,alternative/ screw/ turbocom-pressors,etc)withcapacityregulation.

Asynchronous three phase motors with short-circuit rotor for continuous serviceandIP-55protectiongrade.

Horizontalmultitubularcondensers foroperationwithseawater,fittedwithsteelplatecasingofmarinequalityST-35,Cuni90/10pipes,expandedattheendsonbimetallictubularplates,securedontheinteriorbyintermedaryplates.Theheadpiecesaremadeofbronze.Inthefreshwaterapplication,thecasingismadeofsteelandthepipesofcopper.

Horizontalwater/refrigerantmultitubularevaporators,fittedwithsteelplatecasingandcorrugatedcopper pipes. The refrigerant is expanded in thecopperpipes,withtheglycolatedwatercirculatinginsidethecasing.

Verticalorhorizontalvesselsforthestorageofrefrigerantliquid,fittedwithlevelviewers.

The standard configuration of the starters is by way of direct start up, although,uponrequest,itispossibletoconfigurestart-upwithΥ-∆,softstarorusingfrequencydrives.Thepressurevesselsandexchangersaredesignedinlinewiththeregulationsofmarineclassificationsocieties,andacertificatecanbeprovidedifsorequired.

Controlandregulation instruments, includingpressostats,manometers, ther-mometers, thermostatic expansion valves, etc. The supply of condensationpressure control valves is included for low temperature seawater applica-tions.

Switchboardforoperationandprotectionofthegroup,withalltheelectricalapparatusesnecessaryforautomaticoperation,including:•Generalmagnetothermicprotection.•Connectors,cut-outsandthermalswitchesformotors.•Lights,controllersandrelaysforoperation.

The equipment are supplied fully as-sembled,andwithnospecialtoolsre-quiredformaintenance.

The equipment is started up by ourqualified,officiallyapprovedstaff.

All the units canbedesigned to fulfilany requested special specificationsand requirements (tailor-made),anduse ecological refrigerantswhich areenvironmentallyfriendly.

Load and filtering equipment, fittedwithdryerfilters,anti-humidityviewers,refrigerant loadvalves,cut-offvalves,etc.

CONTROL SySTEMS FOR REFRIGERATION UNITS

We develop a control solution adapted to the requirementsofeachrefrigerationunit.

All units could be providedwith a factory-installed andwired highly avanced microprocessor or PLC based system to the safety, interlock, capacity control, indicationsandaccessibilitynecessarytooperatetheunitinasafeandefficientmanner.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

TheShipbuildingIndustryrequiresspecialcharacteristicsduetotheabove-mentioneddesigncriteria,whichincludes: ·Redundancy ·Spacelimitations ·Workingconditions ·Etc.

As a result, all of our refrigeration units are “Tailor-Made” by uswith nominal refrigerating capacities of up to 7.1MWper module including alternative, screw or centrifugal compressors,andecologicalrefrigerants.

Insomeapplicationsitispossibletousestandardconfigurationrefrigerationunitsdevelopedbyleadingbrands.

Due to the modular design characteristics, we can guarantee the use of our refrigeration units for all kindsof applications and refrigerating capacities. Each refrigerationunitisstudiedthoroughlybyourTechnicalDept.inaccordancewiththeproject’srequirements.
