SWINGING IT VS. THE ASTROS…several Mariners had enjoyed success vs. the Astros in their career: Robinson Cano (.349/15x43, 2B, 2 HR, 7 RBI), Willie Bloomquist (.327/16x49, 2 HR, 8 RBI), Brad Miller (.326/14x43, 3 HR, 8 RBI), Corey Hart (.326/120x369, 31 2B, 4 3B, 22 HR, 64 RBI), Dustin Ackley (.304/17x56, 3 2B, 3B, 9 RBI) and John Buck (.296/16x54, 4 HR).

QUALITY START…Felix Hernandez is 3-1 with a 2.04 ERA in his fi rst 5 starts to begin the season... in each of his fi rst 5 starts he has tossed at least 6.0 innings, while allowing 2 earned runs or less, becoming the fi rst Mariners pitcher in club history to open the season with 5 straight such starts...he joins Atlanta’s Julio Teheran as the only pitchers in 2014 to accomplish this feat.

MISP-ING IN ACTION…Seattle was 1-for-7 with Men In Scoring Position last night’s loss vs. the Astros…during the current 7-game losing streak, Seattle is 7-for-45 (.156) with MISP…in the Mariners 7 wins this season the team is batting .375 (21x56) with runners in scoring position...in 12 losses the club is batting .138 (11x80), including recording zero hits with RISP 6 times.

THIS DATE IN MARINERS HISTORY…On April 22, 1993, starter Chris Bosio hurled the second no-hitter in Mariners history, beating the Boston Red Sox 7-0 in the Kingdome...Bosio walked the fi rst two batters, then tossed a double play ball to start a string of 26 straight batters retired...also on this date in Mariners history in 2013, RHP Felix Hernandez recorded his 100th career victory in the Mariners 7-1 win at Houston...Felix became the 6th-youngest pitcher to record his 100th victory among players who began their career since divisional play began in 1969.

SO THIS IS WHAT SAFECO LOOKS LIKE…the Mariners have played 13 of 19 games so far this season on the road…6 home games are the fewest in baseball, with St. Louis and Toronto all with 6 home games heading into tonight’s games.

RUNS AT A PREMIUM…Seattle leads the American League having been shut out 4 times this season (tied with Chicago Cubs for ML lead)…limited to zero runs in 3 of last 9 games and scored in a run in 11 of last 90 frames…opened the year averaging 5.67 runs per game in the fi rst 6 games…in 13 games since April 8, averaging 2.69 runs per game.

HOME RUN GIVES A CHANCE…the Mariners are 7-1 when hitting at least one home runs this season (5-1 when hitting multiple HR)…are 0-11 when not hitting a ball over the fence.

8TH INNING BLUES…the Mariners have been outscored 17-0 in the 8th inning this season, and 28-14 in the 7th inning or later…even with this trend, the Mariners bullpen has the 6th-lowest ERA in the AL with a 3.36 mark (23 ER, 61.2 IP).

AS YOU KNOW...Felix Hernandez is 21-12 with a 2.54 ERA (87 ER, 308.0 IP) in 45 career starts in the month of April...BUT DID YOU KNOW?…that since 1946 amongst all Major League pitchers, Felix’s 2.54 ERA is the lowest ERA in April, ranking just ahead of Fernando Valenzuela (2.55 ERA, 1981-97) and Chris Bosio (2.55 ERA, 1987-96).
