from your Pastor There cannot be a much better privilege and more enjoyable life than to be a child of God! As I reflect and ponder about my 40 years in fulltime min- istry, I have seen God’s power and blessings in many aspects of Christianity. Yes, there are struggles and challenges along the way, but when we learn how to prioritize God and know how to obey His Word, victory is always possible. We should never belittle what God’s Word can accomplish in us. Whether in our personal lives or in our family, God’s Word will always be a big help. As we get near our church-project launching, I encourage all of us, members, to saturate ourselves with God’s Word. This will enable us to have the right perspective on why we need to do this. I am praying that God will work mightily in us so that we can see what great and mighty things He can do through us. Finally, please pray for our 3rd Anniversary Sun- day here in Singapore.

Church Bulletin

P reacher Gipsy Smith once told of a man who said he had received no inspiration from the Bible although he had "gone through it several times." "Let it go through you once," replied Smith, "Then you will tell a different story!"

God's Word is vital to our faithfulness as Christians! Too often we treat time in God's Word as a duty rather than a privilege. In order for us to draw closer to God and know Him more, we must have a passion for His Word.

While none of us are perfect and will sometimes miss days, determine to not become discouraged! Spend more time with God the next day! We also saw that God provides understanding for His Word. Before we start reading the Bible, we should ask Him to help us learn and apply what we read to our lives. Here are two more ways we can develop a passion for God's Word.

First, have a special time daily in God's Word. Acts 17:11 says, "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readi-ness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." These people spent time each day searching the Word of God, getting to know Him more.

Do you have a specific time and place you meet God each day? When we make appointments in life, we always designate a time and a place to meet. Whether it's a business appointment or a dentist appointment, we know where to be and at what time to be there. What about your "appointment" with God? When you have a specific time and place designated for your time with God, it will help you consistently meet with Him.

Second, rise early in the morning to meet with the Lord. Mark 1:35 says, "And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." Many times in Scripture, Christ went out early in the morning to spend some time alone with His Father.

I don't know about you, but the mornings are often the quietest times around my home. Once the day starts and meetings, projects, and other activities fill the agenda, I am sometimes so worn out at the end of the day that it's all I can do to make it to bed! Rising early in the morning and spending time with God helps me start each day with His Word in my mind and His strength to help me live for Him.

Do you have a specific time and place you meet God? Do you seek Him each morning? Whether it's time in meditation of His Word, time in prayer, or seeking His help for the day, try to spend time with God each morning. Just as you would greet your spouse every morning, make sure to greet your Heavenly Father and seek His will for the day.

A Passion for

Long before Israel foolishly rejected God in search of a king to rule over them, God gave instruction to Moses for what the king should do when he assumed office. One of the critical assignments each king was supposed to follow was to make for himself a handwritten copy of the law of God from the scrolls care-

fully kept and preserved by the priests. This would be a labor-intense task that would consume a great amount of time in the life of a busy man with many responsibilities. Yet God commanded that the investment of time and effort be made.

This command illustrates the vital priority that the Word of God should have in our lives. It is from the Scriptures that we learn to fear and obey God and keep His com-mandments. It is from the Scriptures that we learn to be humble and to instruct others to follow God. In our day when copies of the Bible are readily available, it is easy for us to take the Word for granted. Instead, we should treasure and cherish it, and make it part of our daily lives.

The Precious Word of God

In George Foreman’s book, God in My Corner, the former heavyweight boxing cham-pion writes: “In 1974, before I went to Africa to fight Muhammad Ali, a friend gave me a Bible to take along on my trip. He said, ‘George, keep this with you for good luck.’ I believed the Bible was just a shepherd’s handbook, probably because the only verse

I knew was ‘the Lord is my shepherd.’ But I was always looking for luck, so I carried that Bible with me. I had lucky pennies and good luck charms, so now I added the ‘lucky’ Bible to my collection of superstitious items.

After I lost the fight, I threw the Bible away. I never even opened it. I thought, The Bible didn’t help me win, so why do I need it? I thought I’d get power simply from owning it; I didn’t realize that I needed to read it and believe what it says. Since then, I’ve come to understand that the Bible is my road map, not my good luck charm.”

The Bible Is Not a Good Luck Charm

Watch out for your Priorit ies:

Not al l that gl itters is gold

In an era characterized by busy schedules and a flurry of aimless distractions, it is easy for even the best of Christians to be swept and be lost in the current trends of nones-

sentials. Priorities are dictated by what is clam-orous and urgent and not what is essential and valuable. Whether we like it or not, as the world evolves, priorities change. Nevertheless, we as the children of the living God must remain steadfast and unmovable in prioritizing His will and doing it first and foremost.

The Bible has much to say about the deceit of being busy bodies and never accom-plishing enduring things for God. We must re-alize the fact that priorities are plans for accom-plishments. They focus our attention and direct our resources. Indeed, our desires dictate our priorities, while our priorities shape our choic-es, and our choices determine our actions. It is very tragic to exert all our efforts accomplish-ing a goal only to find out that it is worthless. Our action shows the priority we have chosen. The Apostle Paul expressed in the Scriptures that he counted all things as just dung in order to attain the excellency and enjoy the divine sufficiency that is only in Christ.

There was once a man strolling by the riverside whose vision was caught by a glitter-ing object on the river bed. The man waded by the water and then swam but still he could not locate the object of his affection. After much striving, he gave up and went out of the water only to discover that the glittering object was

actually entangled in one of the tree branches and the river water just reflected it. Not all that glitters is gold.

It is therefore pathetic to see Chris-tians on frenzy for the glittering things that are not really gold. The most important thing in life is to be able to know the most important things in life. When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper places or drop out of our lives. Our love for the Lord will govern the claims for our affection, the demands in our time, the interests we pursue, and the order of our priorities.

Mahatma Gandhi once said that “If it were not for Christians, I would have been a Christian.” The demise of today's Christianity is an anemic testimony brought about by twisted priorities. To be sane, we must prioritize our heavenly passions, persist on them and perfect them as we patiently seek the Lord. The priori-ties God would have us take are not something we just add to our life. They are what we should value.

We either line ourselves up with this God-ordained priority or we cling to the prin-ciples which govern the rest of the world. The mark of a great man is one who knows when to set aside the seemingly important things in order to accomplish the vital ones. We should daily ask the Lord to empty us of all the empty things that we hold on to and we must be Spir-it-filled enough to cooperate with Him.

Watch out for your Priorit ies:

Not al l that gl itters is gold

In May 2013, thirteen-year-old Ar-vind Mahankali correctly spelled the word “knaidel” (a German-Yiddish word for a dumpling) to

win the 86th Scripps National Spell-ing Bee. Mahankali had finished third each of the two previous years. In both of those years he was eliminat-ed when he failed to correctly spell a German-derived word. In preparation for his third attempt at the prize, Mah-ankali diligently worked to strengthen his area of weakness. “This year I pre-pared German words and I studied them, so when I got German words this year, I wasn't worried," he said af-ter his victory.

No one has yet invented a way to magically acquire knowl-edge—or anything else worthwhile—without effort. If we are going to learn what we need to know to succeed in life, whether in our ministry, our ca-reer, our family, or even our hobbies, we are going to have to devote the time and effort required to gain the skills and knowledge we need…and then continue to devote the time and effort required to maintain what we have learned. Renowned concert pianist Vladimir Horowitz said in an in-terview that if he skipped one day of practice he could tell a difference in his performance. If he skipped two or three days, other top-notch pianists could tell. And if he skipped a week, members of the audience would no-tice.

We need to take learning seriously. A person who is dedicated to acquiring skills and information on the job will quickly stand out from his peers. A parent who is serious about gathering the tools to more effective-ly meet his children’s needs will reap great benefits in his children. And a Christian dedicated to studying and applying God’s Word will gain wis-dom. We must obey the admonition of 2 Timothy 2:15: “Study to shew thy-self approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!
