(SUMMARY REPORT) “Workshop on Advanced Multi-Rotor Quadcopters”
Event Date: 28th August, 2017
Venue: Seminar Hall B-Block
Time: 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
Conducted By: Kunal Singh, Assistant Professor (M.E. Dept.)
BACKGROUND: In the past few years some recent advancements in technology of
quadcopters, such as high-profile flight controllers which are able to perform at
much higher processing speed than their predecessor controllers have created an
environment where it has become possible to program our quadcopters without the
use of any programming language, but with a simple GUI software interface. The
idea of using a GUI interface is so revolutionary that today, almost 99% of the flight
controller chips can be configured easily by any person for their projects. In-fact due
to this revolution a person with little or no knowledge in electronics, programming
and mechanics can build, configure and customize their quadcopters through these
software tools. These software tools give power to a person to configure their
quadcopters to the most advanced levels. This workshop was a sound attempt to
explain our students, the relevance of these advanced software tools and most
importantly these advanced flight controllers. Recently some flight controllers have
been developed that can be connected via simple USB cable to our PC or laptop and
can be configured then by these software tools. A prototype of quadcopter
developed using this type of flight controller have been developed before this
workshop and have been tested for its reliability and stability. After that some
advanced features like GPS and OSD (On Screen display) were added to this
