Hy het ernstige breinbeserings opgedoen, is aan die een kant verlam en was baie lank in ’n koma. Hy is bedlêend en moet 24 uur versorging kry. Om te voorkom dat hy bedsere ontwikkel en dat sy spiere degenereer, moet hy gereeld in ’n sit of staanposisie geplaas word. Hierdie spesiale bed stel die gesin in staat om dit te doen. AFTER the blue drop status being in the news last week, incl Highlands Panorama News, TCM had the following to say: “Tap water in Thaba Chweu is clean, safe and drinkable by humans. There were no reports of sickness caused by water for many years now. We take water issues in a very serious light, hence we employ highly skilled and

qualified officials to make sure our water service meets required standards.We recently refurbished our water treatment plants. For that reason we should have improved from 2013 to a better report this year. From the information we have, in 2015 we were never assessed, as a result we believe this report was a desktop report.

We acknowledge the blockage of sewerage pipelines now and then and we urge our communities not to throw foreign objects like sanitary pads in toilets and stones in manholes. There are a number of factors that influence the outcome of the Blue Drop report, for example, clean station has nothing to do with the cleanness and quality of the water. Is the plant fenced? If is not to their satisfaction the points drop. We recently appointed a Technical Director who is very passionate about service delivery and one of his priorities is to improve all plants in Thaba Chweu. Members of the community should not panic; our tap water is the best in the province if not in the country.

ZAMOKUHLE Child and Family Welfare & Ithuteng Stimulation Centre in Mashishing, is part of the mother body Child Welfare SA.Community Members of the Lydenburg Welfare Forum realised that a certain group in their community's needs are not taken care of, especially the physical- and mentally challenged children. Parents of these children are mostly working during day time, and other parents are unemployed, and these children lack mental stimulation. These children also needed a proper nutritional meal, and need to interact with other children. A working committee was elected, and in January 1983 they registered 90 children.In 1986 the school was registered with the Department of Education, and in 1990 the Department of Social Services approved subsidy for 120 children.The Vuyelwa pre-school accommodates children from 2-4½ years, and their fees attributes to the school's income. The care givers do early childhood development with these children, as well as physical stimulation with the disabled children of 2-14 years.Lillian Segoane is the secretary appointed by the School Governing Body, and Annah Mokgwatjana is the school secretary.Currently the school is in great need of a vehicle to transport the children, especially the ones in wheelchairs.More stimulation equipment and structures, as well as monthly donations for the salaries of the Care Givers areneeded. Elke ingang is lelik en onversorg. Jy kan nie eers die warboel tekens langs die paaie lees nie, want jy moet deur ’n stel strate en verkeer navigeer wat aan ’n oorlogsone herinner. Vragmotors, taxi’s en inwoners jaag soos besetenes oor stopstrate of toet vir jou as jy

stadig ry en rondkyk. Waar hou jy stil, klim uit en stap vir ’n paar uur deur koffiewinkels, drink ’n bier en koop kaggelkakkies? Alles is naweke toe. En mense koop kaggelkakkies. Gaan kyk op Parys en Clarens. Waar is ons groen areas? Wat gebeur op die reservate en die waterval? Die goed is nie eers behoorlik toeganklik nie. Die infrastruktuur is so verwoes dat geen bankrot munisipaliteit dit ooit sal herstel nie. Ek maak nie meer tuin nie want die stadsraad het my sypaadjies in mynhope verander. Hulle hou nie eers net by met die verval nie. Inwoners en besighede gee nie om nie, want “wat is daarin vir my” is die norm. Ek is nie negatief nie. Maar ons moet die waarheid praat. Ons het die potensiële produk en die toerisme volume, maar daar sal ’n groot kopskuif nodig wees om van Lydenburg ’n Clarens of Parys te maak, wat die ekonomie weer sal laat floreer. En glo my, hulle besighede en inwoners trek almal voordeel.

Die rede is omdat die komende verkiesing ’n plaaslike verkiesing is. Om te registreer moet u ’n SA ID-dokument met ’n groen staafkode ID of slimkaart ID besit. U kan nie met ’n bestuurslisensie registreer nie. Daar het die naweek in Thaba Chweu ongeveer 1000 nuwe kiesers geregistreer. Dis verblywend om op te merk dat die jueg wat in die verlede taamlik apaties was in groot getalle registreer het. As u nie om een of ander rede die week kon registreer nie is daar weer ’n registrasienaweek op 9 en 10 April. U hoef ook nie vir 9 en 10 April te wag om te registreer nie. U kan

weeksdae by die OVK kantoor tussen 08:00 en 16:00 by die Thaba Chweu munisipale kantore in Lydenburg registreer. Dankie aan die SAPD en alle politieke partye se ampsdraers die naweek. THREE motor manufacturers are in discussions with the Coega Development Corporation about the possibility of establishing completely knocked-down (CKD) manufacturing facilities in the industrial development zone in the Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth) area.(IDZ).Gustav Meyer, the senior manager of international markets for transport industry at the corporation, confirmed this and identified the companies as one Chinese and two European motor manufacturers.One of the European motor manufacturers was a heavy truck manufacturer, he said.Meyer declined to identify the motor manufacturers with whom discussions were taking place. But the Chinese motor manufacturer is believed to be the country’s fifth-largest carmaker, Beijing Automotive International Corporation (BAIC), which last year confirmed that it would be investing R11 billion in a new vehicle manufacturing plant in South Africa.Meyer said there were different timelines for a decision on the possible investment by the three manufacturers, with the first around mid-year and the others a bit further away.He confirmed that some of the changes made to the Automotive Development and Production Programme (APDP) last year had stimulated increased interest in the Coega IDZ. This included the reduction from this year in the annual volume threshold for vehicle production from 50 000 units to 10 000 units to qualify for APDP incentives to allow new entrants into the local industry.Meyer said there had been some interest by motor manufacturers in establishing semi knocked-down (SKD) plants in the IDZ prior to this change, but CKD plants were getting preference now, particularly following the depreciation of the exchange rate of the rand.“Coega remains confident that some of the OEMS (original equipment manufacturers) currently exploring South African shores will expand operations and choose the Coega IDZ as a location to serve Africa and other export markets,” he said.Meyer said the automotive industry was one of the growing industries dominating in manufacturing nationally and globally. It was the largest manufacturing sector in

LAND ROVER is developing the world’s first eight-speed dual-clutch transmission optimised for off-road use. DCTs are effectively two gearboxes in one, with one clutch controlling the odd gears and the second clutch the even gears, connected to the engine in turn depending on which gear is engaged. An output shaft from each gearbox applies torque to the driven wheels via the differential. Electronics pre-determine the next cog and hydraulics engage it ahead of the shift itself, for seamless progress. There’s a lot of activity on DCTs: Pioneer VW, is working on a 10-speed ’box with a torque capacity up to 550Nm; JLR’s can supposedly handle 600Nm, more than enough for punishing off-road durability testing.Codenamed POLAR 3, the gear train layout offers a number of potential advantages, such as the wide ratio spread of just over 17 between top and bottom gear; the Audi TT’s spread is 10.577. JLR’s DCT, in combination with very low range, should lead to Land Rovers with even better off-road attributes as the driver should have seamless access to the correct gear for the environment, plus additional control features through the Terrain Response selector.In the past, low-ratios for off-roading were manually selected by a transfer box, essentially a second gearbox that doubles the number of gears; trouble is, it’s tricky to operate on the fly with most drivers stopping to engage high- or low-ratio. Having a wide ratio spread, with very low gears for high torque and off-roading, and high gears with low torque for cruising, means a transfer box isn’t required; mimicking its function gives the DCT high- and low-range reverse gears too.Because the gear train layout is simpler and the clutches are locked, there will be some fuel savings. JLR’s powertrain research confirms ‘efficiency improvements’ but says it’s too early to be specific. Typically, a six-speed DCT is about 10 per cent more efficient than a five-speed torque converter auto.Currently the ’box uses ‘wet’ clutches, but production versions would likely use a ‘moist’ or ‘damp’ system with variable oil flow cooling. This ensures that extreme off-road manoeuvres can be maintained but with drag levels significantly reduced over a continuously ‘wet’ design.A modular design means the front-drive take-off can be removed for use on rear-drive Jags, and hybridisation is feasible, along with a ‘sailing’ mode to decouple the engine during coasting to save fuel. Likely engine pairings will be the Ingenium I4 units and the

The Amarok system works very well and is a pleasure to drive.

35 medaljes vir Rina se atlete by InterhoërMe. Rina van Heerden is ’n wêreldklas

atletiekafrigter en Olimpiese atleet. Sy is baie trots op die atlete wat sy privaat afrig en so goed

gedoen het by die Interhoër te Hoërskool Lydenburg. Dankie aan die skool en ouers wat haar

o.19), nuwe MP rekord opgestel deur na ASA en USASA, Diaan

Lombard (seuns 0.17 deur na ASA en USASA 110m hekkies en 400m

hekkies).

Daar is hekkies gespring, met fietsies gery, gehardloop en alle ander pretitems

by die Klopkloppie Kleuterskool se sportdag. Dit het Saterdag by die

Hoërskool Lydenburg plaasgevind. Die ouers en kleingoed het dit ewe veel geniet. Dankie aan McGee & Kie en

Hoërskool Lydenburg wat die kleuterskool bygestaan het.

Die skool het al bykans 160 leerders, so dit was ’n groot organisasie vir die personeel en almal wat dit moontlik

gemaak het. Die vreugde op die kinders se gesigte was dankie genoeg -
