We had some fun visitors join us last week. Our 2022 little people joined us for a Prep open morning. They all enjoyed some fun activities with Miss S, Mrs Dunn and Mrs H. Their Mums and Dads also joined in some of the activities. Transitioning to school is a big change in any family and we look forward to welcoming our ‘big school kids’ on Day 1 in 2022.

The 5/6 class missed the opportunity to meet our visitors as they were on an adventure of their own. Ms Fox, Mrs Maudsley and Mrs Blanch joined our students on their excursion to the Nanango Energy Centre. They are using all of the information they have learned to complete their Science unit as they work in groups to prepare presentations on types of energy.

I am excited to report that the majority of works for the administration building renovations are now completed. While I love the look of freshly painted, clean bright walls, I look forward to them being places to display student work and also share information for our school community.

I also have great news to share about water infrastructure at our school. Through the work of our facilities team at regional office our school has been nominated for a project that will hopefully see efficient water systems that will allow us to be self-sustaining into the future.

We are also looking forward to the erection of a shade cover for the upper playground. This work is being funded by the Wheatlands State School P and C and will likely be completed in time for the 2022 school year.

I remind parents that supervision for students before school is rostered from 8:30.

While I appreciate that circumstances occasionally arise where it is necessary to collect a child early it is disruptive to the class for students to be regularly collected ‘just a little bit early’ from school.

Supervision is provided for students who catch the bus in the afternoon and for those students waiting to be collected by their families. Families collecting students need to collect children promptly.

Prep/1 News We have been busy finishing assessments, completing benchmark

testing and finalising workbooks. We need students at school every

day to complete tasks before end of year celebrations.

A huge thank you to Ms Fox who visited our classroom and

performed the ‘HAKA’. The students loved your explanation along

with your dance moves. 😉

I am absolutely blown away with the digital technology skills our

class has acquired over the past 6 weeks! We are using various

programs such as PowerPoint and Word, recording data, graphing,

changing font, adding colour, altering size and the very

important ... able to type sentences using correct punctuation 😮

This can now be done with minimal assistance from teachers.

Year 1/2 News

The year 1/2 students have had a very busy and productive fortnight

with students learning new skills. There have been many highlights

this fortnight.

In Science we are learning about water and where it comes from and

how to use it responsibly. Last week we went for a walk around the

school to find all the water sources. Mrs Stanley also showed us how

to tell how much water is left in a water tank.

The students also enjoyed having a visit from the year ones from the

Prep/One classroom. We read the story “The Rainbow Fish” and then

made a Rainbow Fish out of a paper plate.

Year 3/4 News

These past few weeks students in 3/4 have been hard at work designing a shoe that can be

made out of repurposed materials. They have developed a concept, provided detailed

design drawings and written a preliminary procedure to outline what their production process

will look like. The shoe will need to survive three design challenges: a long-distance walk,

walking on gravel and walking in mud. Some students have now begun creating small

prototypes of their shoe to test out their ideas.

Year 5/6 News

We are getting to the pointy end of things now! Reading assessments have begun and I am

very proud to see the progress and movement in student reading levels. We are preparing to

begin many of our assessments in anticipation of some very busy weeks ahead. The year 6

students will be off enjoying camp in week 8 which really puts the pressure on to make a start

on assessments.

Our trip to the Nanango Energy Information Centre last week was a real hit – I think everyone’s

favourite exhibit was the Energy in Motion station, where they were able to generate enough

energy to earn a gobstopper!
