7:00PM Fr. Joseph Shea DL

The Family Rosary Ministry invites you to come to the 5:00 PM Mass

on Saturday, July 6th and join them in praying the rosary for the healing and unity of families led by Deacon Louis Fernandez in the

chapel immediately following Mass.

They say that the first parish is your first family and your first love and three years ago I arrived at St. Rose of Lima: my home. You are my first love I knew that one day I would have to leave St Rose just like one day I left my parents a long time ago, and I have

experienced the same pains I used to when I once left my family back in Spain: sadness, tears and a broken heart. It was at this moment that I realized you truly are my family. I know that I am far from perfect and I really hope that you can find in your heart to forgive the moments when I might have failed you as a priest and as a family member. I really am sorry for those moments, but I truly thank you for your patience and unconditional love. Thank you for taking me, a new inexperienced priest. Thanks for allowing me to learn to be a shepherd, to help me learn from my mistakes, how to laugh, cry and love. Because of you I know I am a better person, better man and a better priest. My job as a priest was and is to bring you closer to God, to love Him with all your soul and mind, but when I was ordained I was told that I belong to the universal Church and it is in the family of the Church that I have continue to shepherd other people so I will miss you tremendously, but it is a good thing that I have to go, so you don’t listen to the Gospel of father Gregorio, but to Christ Himself. I hope that you really remember this, because it is not about the priest that we are here, but about CHRIST. And so you will have a new priest who is and will be 10 times better than me. He is also a shepherd who was ordained to give his life for you. Please love him just the same way you have loved me. See in him the same priesthood, the same family member that you have seen in me. I know St. Rose of Lima community will impact him with the same love that has showed me these three years. I want to thank the Knights of Columbus , our amazing Choir, The School, The Youth Ministry. The Staff in the office, and so many others that helped me along the way. I thank Father Joe for his amazing generosity. It takes a brave pastor to take in a newly ordained priest. I thank also Fr John (we came together) and especially Fr. Jim. I truly owe a lot of my priesthood to him for all the countless hours when he listened to me and always reminded me to Love my priesthood and God through all of you. I thank you all very much for loving me through my good and my bad moments. I bring the best part of St. Rose with me in my heart: your love. I will miss you terribly and I pray for you always.

“Helping Build Up the Domestic Church”

The term “Domestic Church” refers to the family, the smallest body of gathered

believers in Christ. The Greek word ecclesiola referred to “little church.” Our Early Church Fathers understood that the home is the best place to learn how to practice discipleship, sanctification, and holiness. Are you and your family saints in training in your own “little church”? Your answer should be YES! Visit the Office of Faith Formation for more information on training to be saints!

“What does it take to become a saint? Will it.” Saint Thomas Aquinas

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Needed Have you ever considered becoming an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion? We are “Extraordinary” only because we are not the “Ordinary” Ministers of Holy Communion (the Priests and Deacons). Pope Paul VI stated that the Mass is the “most perfect form of prayer” – and there is no greater way for a layperson to experience it than through the privilege of distributing our Lord to our fellow Catholics. Contrary to what some may think — this is not a lifelong commitment. There is no ordination, no contract, nor will you be expected to serve at a mass that you don’t normally attend. You can serve at the Mass that you normally attend and will be scheduled for that Mass 1-2 months at a time. We also have periodic volunteer call outs for Holy Days, First Communions and special events. If you are interested in this enriching and rewarding ministry – please complete the “New Minister Survey” on the parish website that can be found here: https://strosesv.com/eucharistic-ministers. You will find the Survey at the bottom left of the page. Please prayerfully consider joining today!

James: Pearls for Wise Living James is one of the most practical books of the Bible. Its teachings speak loudly to those who feel torn between the competing demands of

this world and their faith. This study offers “pearls for wise living” by applying the wisdom of James to our current day. For anyone who has struggled to live a truly Christian life, James offers a wealth of

practical solutions for handling and even sanc-tifying everyday circumstances.

Join us for James: Pearls for Wise Living here at St. Rose of Lima

School in room 8 beginning Thursday, April 25th at 7:00pm and continuing through

Thursday, July 11th. For more information or to register for the study, call

Dr. Neil Fanning at 805-217-4300 or via email: [email protected]

Gracious and Loving God,

Help these young men and women to be a light for all the world to see, in all the places they live and work.

Let their light shine for all peoples: for their families,

for their church communities, for their cultures and societies, for the economic and political systems, for the whole world. Coming into the room where the disciples were gathered

after the resurrection, Jesus, said:

“Peace be with you!” (Jn 20:21).

Make these men and women bearers of Christ's peace.

" Blessed are the peacemakers, teach them the meaning of what was said on

the mountain: for they shall be called sons and daughters of

God" (cf. Mt 5:9). Send them, Father,

as you sent your son: to free their brothers and sisters from fear and sin.

We ask this of you, in Christ's name. Amen.

Why enroll your children in a Catholic School? Quick Facts: Our Catholic Faith and traditions permeate all we do. Our teachers have California State credentials. Our teachers emphasize and specialize in the arts, physical education, science, Spanish, mathematics and language arts. Our STAR tests show that all classes are above grade level. Our tuition is lower than most private school. To enroll your children for the 2019-20 school year visit our website: www.srls.org, For more information or to arrange a tour, please call the school office at (805) 526-5304.

DID YOU KNOW? Scope out your surroundings while children play

Parks are great places for children to play freely, test limits, and make new friends. But because they’re such popular play zones, that makes them attractive spots for predators. Parents can take concrete steps to ensure their children’s safety when they go to local parks and

playgrounds. Take note of the people around you — especially adults who are alone in the area, on the playground or in nearby cars. Notice the families nearby and keep track of who is playing with your child. Paying attention to your surroundings can help you more fully enjoy

your time with your children, all while keeping them safe. For a copy of the complete VIRTUS® article “Scope out your surroundings while children play,” visit http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Articles.aspx

¿Sabia Usted?
