Responding to the spiritual needs of the clergy and the faithful during the ongoing scourge of the2019-2020 coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Vatican released the text of a special Mass,

entitled In Time of Pandemic. This is the Collect from that Mass.

Canada Student Service Grant @ St. Mary's ParishHOW IT WORKSSt. Mary’s projects run July 3 to August 31, 2020Each participating student will receive $1000 from the federal government for every 100 hours of service, up to a maximum of $5000St. Mary’s is offering 2 exciting volunteer opportunities which are outlined below. A variety of work times will be offered at our first orientation meeting, whose date and time will be sent to all applicants. We have space for up to 100 eligible students. See https://apply.iwanttohelp.org/ for eligibility requirements.

WHY THE PROGRAM WAS CREATEDThe federal government recognizes that students have been struggling to find summer employment, and that many were depending on this income to pay for tuition in the coming Fall or Winter terms. The government also recognizes that the pandemic has led to increased isolation and need amongst vulnerable populations. In an effort to address both problems, the Canada Student Service Grant (CSSG) was created to support you in your journey through post-secondary education.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIESThere are 2 volunteer opportunities that will be offered by St. Mary’s Parish. Students must choose one of the following two opportunities:

TINY HOME WORKER: Students will be split into teams to fundraise and build up to 10 Tiny Homes for the homeless in Kitchener-Waterloo. Students will also have the opportunity to learn from and network with professionals who work in KW’s housing and homelessness sector. This opportunity will take place onsite at St. Mary’s Parish, Kitchener in addition to virtual components.

CAPTURING THE WISDOM OF OUR ELDERS: We know that the pandemic has disproportionately affected our elderly population. These are people who have lived remarkable lives of resilience, faith, and love. Students will be placed on teams and matched with a parish in Kitchener-Waterloo where students will connect with and capture the stories of the elderly of their parish. They will then find creative ways of celebrating their stories through multimedia platforms (video, photography, social media, photo-book, etc.). This will be a great opportunity for anyone seeking to build their creative skills in photography, videography, graphic design, interviewing. This project will mostly take place virtually, with some onsite opportunities.

*Government regulations for protection from COVID-19 will be followed closely for everyone's safety.
