We Filipinos draw our senseofself-identity from ourfamilies. Our familiesprovide us with a sense ofsecurity, stability, and

    belongingness.

Hindi siya iba sa atin.Christ is our kapatid, andbecause of this, we deemourselves worthy to call GodAma Namin and our Lady

    as Mahal na Ina.

For us Filipinos, our salo-salo is more than justnourishment of the body. Westrengthen our relationshipsby sharing a meal. The Filipinohandaan is an expression of

    our good will.

The Eucharist is our salo-salo,our family reunion. Christ is ourtinapay ng buhay, the Hostthat throws a piging as a signof his gracious love- love thatsustains us, love that makes us

    one as Gods people.

The Kundiman is a sad lovesong. We are naturallyattracted to those who arekawawa or kinakawawa. We are also very patient andforgiving alang-alang sa

pinagsamahan. We are willingto suffer for the sake of others.

Christ is the God who keeps

on loving us to the point ofsuffering and death.Pinagmalasakitan tayo. Inhim we find someone whounderstands our struggles andheartaches for he himself has

    been through it all.

We look up to heroes. Weadmire people who give up

their lives for our sake. We donot want sad endings to ourstories. Perhaps we enduresuffering because we there issomeone who is willing tosacrifice on our behalf to

defend us from oppressors andget us out of our misery.

Jesus is our Cristo Rey, the

king who is tagapagtanggol nginaapi, kampeon ngmasa. He is the defender of the poorand the oppressed. As king, heassures us that things will gowell since he has already

    triumphed over evil.

For us Filipinos, thesupernatural is natural. Weare likely to believe in theexistence of the invisible andthe mysterious.

It is easy for us to acceptJesus as miracle-worker.Jesus is the mapaghimala, the makapangyarihan salahat who can exorcizedemons, heal diseases,

From Christ, the Nazareno andthe Sto. Entierro, we learn that:

Christ is not a stranger to our

sufferingsChrist found us worth dying for.Christ is the supreme example ofpagmamalasakit. He not only becameone of us, he even bore our pains.

Suffering is not only for the guilty, butmysteriously, even the innocent suffer. In faith, we accept that there arecertain things we have to suffer for thesake of others.

Devotion to the Sacred Heart has twoelements: consecration and reparation:

1.We consecrate ourselves to the SacredHeart by acknowledging Him as Creator and

Redeemer and as having full rights over usas King of Kings, by repenting, and byresolving to serve Him.2.We make reparations for the indifferenceand ingratitude with which He is treated andfor leaving Him abandoned by humanity.
