I thank You, O God, For the warming of the winds that brings a melting of the snow, for daylight hours that daily grow longer and richer in the
aroma of hope.Spring lingers below the horizon as the approaching echoes of
Easter rings in my ears.I lift my heart to You, Beloved, in this season of Lent that gently sweeps across my sluggish and sleeping heart, awakening me
to a deeper love for You.May the wind of the Spirit that drove Jesus into the desert, into the furnace of prayer, also drive me with a passion during this Lenten season to rekindle the Fire of my devotion in the desert
of Lenten love.Birds above, on migratory wings, signal me to an inner
migration, a message that draws me homeward on Spirit’s wings to the heart of my Beloved.
Dear ParentsHoly Week is a most special time in our Catholic Church calendar. The Sacred Paschal Triduum begins tonight and includes the three most solemn days of the Church’s liturgical year; Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. These most holy days celebrate the passion, suffering, and death of the Lord Jesus, followed by his resurrection, the triumph of the holy cross, and Jesus’ decisive victory over sin and death. The children, led by Mrs Aylmore and Mrs Sutton, with the fantastic dramatic skills of our Year 6s, conducted a beautiful ceremony on Tuesday to remember these events of Holy Week and this included a most prayerful walk of the Stations of the Cross.I have included the St Anthony’s Catholic Church Parish Mass Times beginning tonight with:
• Holy Thursday: 7.30pm Mass of the Lord’s Supper• Good Friday: 10.00am Stations of the Cross
3.00pm Passion of the Lord• Easter Saturday: 7.30pm Mass• Easter Sunday: 7.30am; 9.00am and 6.00pm (normal Parish Mass times)
Once again a special thank you to the P&F for their fantastic organisation of the Disco and Movie Night last night, which was attended by many of our school children. A reminder that Parent/Teacher meetings are an important part of building our school Teacher-Parent-Child partnerships and have been conducted over the last two weeks. If you could not make an appointment during this time to see your class teacher, please avail yourself of this opportunity, early into Term 2 to discuss your child’s progress.A reminder that Enrolment interviews for Kindergarten 2016 will begin very early next term. If you have a child who is due to begin Kindergarten in 2016 and have not yet completed an application package, this needs to be done prior to the end of this term. A child cannot be considered for a place unless an application has been submitted, even if they have a sibling already attending the school. Catholic schooling is available to all parents seeking a Catholic education for their children, however, the following criteria for enrolment into St Anthony’s School applies:
1. Catholic students from the Parish with a Parish Priest reference; 2. Catholic students from outside the Parish with a Parish Priest reference; 3. Other Catholic students; 4. Siblings of non-Catholic students; 5. Non-Catholic students from other Christian denominations; 6. Other non-Catholic students.
Further enrolment information can be found at - http://www.saw.wa.edu.au/?page_id=3107
A reminder that school starts for students on Tuesday 21st April, and they are to be in full winter uniform. The school calendar has also been updated with dates for next term and can be accessed: http://www.saw.wa.edu.au
God Bless and have a happy, safe and Holy Easter.

WORKBOOKSThe partnership with parents in education is extremely important. This year, at the end of each term, we will be sending home various subject area workbooks for you to view and discuss the work completed. At the end of this week, we will be sending home the Religion, English and Maths workbooks. Please take this opportunity to view your child’s work and talk to them about what they have been learning. There will be a reflection sheet for each of the three subject areas for you to fill out together. This will give you both an opportunity to communicate an achievement to celebrate as well as an area to work on next term. Please return all of the books, with the reflection sheet on the first day of school next term.
Have a fantastic Easter holiday. Dee Johnston Curriculum Coordinator
MATHS NEWSThis year from years 3 to 6 we are trialing a new Mathematics text, Back To Front Mathematics. It is different to traditional Mathematics programs as it is inquiry based and focuses on developing students' deeper understanding of important Mathematical concepts. The books are specifically written for multi-stage classes so that kids working at different levels can be catered for. This means that while a wide range of activities are included, not all activities are suitable for each child. The teachers will make decisions about which to use to best meet the needs of each child and also meet the Australian curriculum requirements.
During Term 1 we will be using an intervention program to identify and address misconceptions in student understanding. As the work students will be completing is targeted to their own specific developmental level, not all content within the book will be covered over the year. Back to Front maths includes an extensive online resource for targeting specific learning needs included in the price of the book, which teachers will be utilising throughout the year to complement the text books.

A big thank you and great job to the following children who helped mark our 80th celebration milestone with a special photo for the school. The following children and parents can proudly see their picture and article that was published in last Tuesday's Wanneroo Times, and the picture will also appear in our 2015 year book. Well done to all the kids who participated during a hectic school photo time. Parents can see the photo and article published below or follow the link.

St Anthony’s School students and Principal Mark Marando celebrate 80 years.Grandchildren of the first St Anthony’s School students are marking eight decades of school history.
When the Wanneroo Road school opened in 1935, it had three classrooms and was staffed by the Sisters of Mercy who travelled by bus every day from St Mary’s in West Perth.
The school recovered from a fire in 1985 that destroyed much of it. In 2000 it relocated from the old St Anthony’s Church on Wanneroo Road to Servite Terrace next to the new church building. The school now accommodates about 475 students from three-year-olds to Year 6.
Principal, and former student Mark Marando said many students, families, staff and principals had walked the school halls.
“Some children are currently at the same school that their parents and grandparents attended which carries on the sense of tradition in generations. Many of the students’ family names, past and present are engraved on pavers in the school, preserving its long history and association with local families.”
Former students with memorabilia can donate or lend the items to the school to promote the anniversary.

NIPSSA INTERSCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL - Congratulations to all those students who took part in the carnival at Arena Joondalup last Thursday. You all did a great job representing the school.
Thank you to those parents who came along to support our students and particularly to those who assisted on the pool deck!

TERM 2 - Next term is the Lightning Carnival for Years 5 and 6, where the students will be competing in football, soccer, league tag and netball. I will be looking for parent managers on the day, so if you can help please check the date on the calendar.
Next term is also the Interschool Cross Country event for Years 3 to 6. I will be starting a running club before school for those who wish to try out to represent the school at this event. Watch out for details in the first newsletter.
WATERWISE TIPS
• Catch the cold water - While waiting for the shower or bath water to heat up, capture it in a bucket, it's precious water that can be used on the garden or pot plants.
• Take shorter showers - Reduce your shower time by just 2 minutes and see big savings. We use around 25% of total household water in the shower alone, so cutting shower times is one of the easiest ways to save. Four minutes is the ideal waterwise shower time - use a shower timer to keep you on track.
CAFFEINE is the most widely used drug. Because it is so commonly found in our everyday lives, a lot of people don't even realise that caffeine is a drug. Most of you know that there is caffeine in coffee. Did you know that tea, colas, chocolate, stay-awake pills and some headache and cold remedies also contain caffeine?
It is known as a stimulant, which means that it can wake you up or give you a boost of energy. However, it affects different people in different ways and depends on how much you take. Large amounts can harm your stomach or make you tired or restless. Even small amounts can also make you nervous, sleepy or sick. It is addictive, so in time your body can become dependent on it. If choosing a healthy lifestyle is important to you, you may wish to consider limiting your use of caffeine.

Relationships Australia - Mums Raising Boys up to the age of 12 years. Wednesday, 22nd April at 22 Southport Street, West Leederville. 6.30pm-9.00pm - $25.00. However well-prepared mothers are logically, the emotional response to having a boy is often still, ‘Wow! This is unknown territory.’ It is true that for many mothers, the idea of raising a son carries its own set of worries. As the primary female role model in a boy’s life, mothers play an important role in the development of their son’s identity including their ability to be nurturing. This is turn affects how they relate to others, particularly to girls and women. For further information and to enrol please phone 9489 6322.
