Andrew Hauptman, Owner

Dear Fire Friends and Fans,

2009 was a big year for the Chicago Fire—both on and off the field.

The Chicago Fire making it to the MLS Cup Playoff for the fifth consecutive season made me enormously proud of the club. The Eastern Conference Championship drew a sold out crowd of more than 21,000, which was the largest Toyota Park has ever seen for a Fire game. Despite the Fire’s heart wrenching loss to Real Salt Lake, I truly believe the Fire’s passion and love for the game is unmatched in Major League Soccer.

With newly appointed Coach Carlos de los Cobos leading and a roster of terrific talented players, we look forward to the 2010 season with optimism, confidence and renewed energy.

Off the field, the Chicago Fire Foundation has remained true to its mission of enriching the community’s youth. Driven by our dedicated staff and wonderful volunteer Board of Directors, whose commitment and service is so appreciated, the Foundation has to-date provided over $1.4 million in grants, contributions and in-kind support to the community. In 2009, the “Kicks for Kids” program enabled over 6,000 children from nearly 40 local charitable organizations to attend a Chicago Fire game. For many, it was the first time attending a professional sporting event. The Foundation has also teamed up with local charities and other organizations to host numerous events including the 2009 Girls on the Run-Chicago Fall 5K, the 9th Annual Frank Klopas Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Outing and the Chicago Fire vs. UIC Flames Benefit match, among others.

The ongoing success of our club and the efforts of the Chicago Fire Foundation in the community are made possible only through the invaluable support we receive from our amazing Fire fans. Your remarkable enthusiasm and generous spirit inspires me throughout the year.

On behalf of my family and everyone at the club, we thank you for your continued support.

Go Fire!

Sincerely,

Frank Klopas, PresidentChicago Fire Foundat ion

Looking back at 2009, the season was filled with passion and enthusiasm among our club and fans both on and off the field as well as many notable achievements. The team’s strength and character was on display throughout the 2009 season as the Fire tied for the league lead in the least amount of losses in the regular season and experienced another exciting run in the playoffs.

Another notable achievement was when Fire midfielder and Chicago Fire Foundation board member Logan Pause was recognized by the MLS as the 2009 Humanitarian of the Year for his continued dedication and commitment to the community.

Despite a year with economic difficulties, in 2009 the Foundation was able to award over $150,000 in grants and contributions back into the community. With your continuous support and generosity, our fans the Fire and Foundation continued to grow our staple events such as the annual Season Kickoff Luncheon, the Commemorative Jersey Auction, the annual Frank Klopas Golf Outing and the 50/50 Raffle during home games.

I also wish to express our gratitude to Andrew Hauptman and Andell Holdings for their generous contributions towards our 2009 successes. The extraordinarily charitable efforts on the part of Andell, along with their continued dedication and commitment to the club, will allow us to give back to the community for years to come.

We remain strong and steadfast in our mission to enrich the lives of the Chicagoland community, particularly its youth, in the areas of health and wellness, education and the environment. We look forward to a strong 2010 campaign and to further expand our programming and outreach. We look forward to your continued support and hope for the same displays of passion and enthusiasm that our club promises to give day in and day out throughout this coming season.

EVENTS2009 KICKS FOR KIDS

The Chicago Fire Foundation, the charitable division of the Chicago Fire, hosted its 9th Annual Frank Klopas Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Outing on August 31, 2009 at the Silver Lake Country Club in Orland Park, IL. This was an exciting opportunity for fans to interact with the 2009 Chicago Fire team. Every foursome had the opportunity to golf with a Chicago Fire player or coach in a scramble format. The day included a continental breakfast, 18 holes of golf, lunch, cocktail reception and buffet dinner. The event concluded with a silent auction, raffle and the awarding of the day’s prizes. Thank you to all those who joined Frank in giving back to the Chicagoland community by participating in the 2009 Frank Klopas Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Outing!

2009 FRANK KLOPAS CELEBRITY PRO-AM GOLF OUTING

On Saturday, July 11th, the Chicago Fire teamed up with local contributors and businesses to celebrate the 6th Annual “Kicks for Kids Night”, a soccer evening organized by the Fire and Chicago Fire Foundation. The event brought together nearly 2,500 underprivileged children from the Chicagoland area on Saturday, July 11th to watch the Chicago Fire take on the Columbus Crew. For many of them, this was their first Major League Soccer game.

During the 2009 season, over 6,000 children from nearly 40 local youth-based organizations were provided the opportunity to experience the excitement of a Chicago Fire home game at TOYOTA PARK. Some of these groups included Big Brothers Big Sisters, Urban Initiatives, Family Focus, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Kids Hope United.

EVENTSGUEST BARTENDING

The Chicago Fire participated in a series of guest bartending events to raise funds for the Chicago Fire Foundation. The Chicago Fire goalkeeping squad turned in their goalie gloves to serve brews and other drinks to fans before various World Cup Qualifying Matches. The first event took place at Fado Irish Pub on June 3rd before the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) faced Costa Rica. The goalkeeping squad got behind the bar at The Kerryman on September 9th as fans watched the USMNT face Trinidad & Tobago. The series concluded on October 14th at Small Bar as goalkeepers Jon Busch and Andrew Dykstra served drinks to fans before the USMNT match against Costa Rica. All tips from their time behind the bar benefited the Chicago Fire Foundation.

The Chicago Fire Foundation (CFF) and Connie’s Pizza teamed up for a delicious fundraiser to benefit the Chicago Fire Foundation. On August 31st and September 1st (from 5:00 PM until closing), guests who visited select Chicagoland Connie’s Pizza locations not only enjoyed great food, but also helped out the CFF. This was an easy and tasty way for Fire fans to help support the Foundation! When guests turned in the flyer to their server or cashier on August 31st and September 1st (from 5:00 PM until closing) 13% of their check benefited the Chicago Fire Foundation.

Children’s Memorial Hospital is Illinois’ only freestanding hospital exclusively for kids. Ranked #1 in almost every major pediatric specialty, they provide superior pediatric healthcare in a compassionate, family-centered environment. Through this partnership, the Chicago Fire Foundation will work with Children’s Memorial Hospital’s Institute for Sports Medicine to provide funding for its Knee Injury Prevention Program (KIPP) which is designed to lower the risk of ACL injuries in athletes.

Like Children’s Memorial Hospital, the Chicago Fire Foundation is also dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children. On September 22nd, members of the Chicago Fire spent time visiting patients and took part in the hospital’s weekly bingo game.

Gateway Green is a non-profit organization that believes beauty and sustainability go hand in hand. For nearly 25 years, Gateway Green has been dedicated to making Chicago a more beautiful and “greener” place to live. Through this partnership, the Chicago Fire Foundation will support Gateway Green’s endeavor to greening and beautifying the expressways, gateways, and neighborhoods of Chicago.

The Chicago Fire Foundation, in cooperation with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, partnered to produce “Kicks for Cancer,” an event that uses the sport of soccer to help raise funds and awareness of blood disorders. Through this pledge-based event, participants were challenged to “touch” a soccer ball using techniques that include dribbling, passing, and shooting. Proceeds were then matched by the Foundation to form the grant that was publicly presented at a Fire game during the half time ceremony at TOYOTA PARK.

THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY

Co-founded by Art Smith, Oprah’s former personal chef, Common Threads began out of love for family and good food; two basic ingredients that link all people together. Its mission is to educate children on the importance of nutrition and physical well-being, and to foster an appreciation of cultural diversity through cooking. Children who participate in their programming come to their kitchens and embark on a world adventure as they prepare nutritious meals rooted in diverse cultural heritages. By using the power of food they can bridge cultural boundaries and strengthen our bond as a global family through the simple process of preparing and sharing a meal with others. Through this partnership, the Chicago Fire Foundation will help Common Threads serve approximately 1,000 students primarily those from various low-income neighborhoods in Chicago.
