On Sunday, the Lions will continue north to take on Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y., in a non-conference matchup. Scouting the Big Red Cornell enters the weekend with a 1-5-1 record, and will join the Lions in commencing its Ivy League schedule on Friday. The Big Red picked up its only victory of the season over Colgate, 2-0, on Sept. 16, and earned a tie against Binghamton in the season opener. Cornell is led offensively by Sidra Bonner, who has a pair of goals. Kelly Murphy will likely be the starter in goal for the Big Red and maintains a 1.29 GAA. Scouting the Raiders Having allowed only nine goals in nine matches thus far this season, Colgate’s defense has led them to a pair of victories and two ties. Freshman Ashley Walsh has started all nine contests in net and has a 0.96 GAA along with 64 saves. Jillian Arnault and Maddie Malone each have two goals for the Red Raiders, who have defeated St. Bonaventure and Buffalo this season and tied with Marist and Oregon. Series History Columbia has battled Cornell 23 times in its history, with the Big Red coming out on top in 17 of those matches. The Lions have bucked the trend in recent years, taking each of the last three matchups between the two schools. Columbia and Colgate have faced off eight times and have split the games evenly, 4-4. The Red Raiders have won the last three contests, beginning in 2003. The last two matches have gone into overtime. NEWS & NOTES gocolumbialions.com/womenssoccer
