Pat Parris is in his third season as the head men’s soccer coach at North Georgia Col-lege & State University in 2009-10.

In 2008, the Saints finished the season with a record of 8-11-1, posting a 2-3-1 mark in the Peach Belt Conference to finish fourth place in the league. North Georgia hosted the program’s first-ever Peach Belt Con-ference Tournament game and advanced to the Final Four of the PBC Tournament for the second straight year.

During his first season at the helm of the Saints soccer program, he led the squad to an 8-10-1 record and a birth in the semi-finals of the 2007 Peach Belt Conference Tournament.

Parris comes to North Georgia from Geor-gia Southern, where he was a four-year letterwinner for the Eagles from 1994-97, joining the Statesboro (Ga.) High coach-ing staff after concluding his career at Georgia Southern. Parris spent three years at Statesboro, helping the Blue Devils win back-to-back region championships. Af-ter that, he joined the Georgia Southern coaching staff where he served in that ca-pacity until accepting the position at North Georgia.

During his collegiate career, Parris played in 75 games at the forward, marking back and outside midfield positions. He helped Georgia Southern to a 14-4-2 record his senior year by scoring five goals and reg-

istering four assists for 14 points. Two of his goals came in the Southern Confer-ence Tournament first-round game versus Appalachian State, in which he helped the Eagles to a 7-5 win to continue the stellar season. Parris finished his playing career having scored 15 goals and 10 assists for 40 points. He also recorded four-game winning goals during his stay and helped Georgia Southern to its first-ever national ranking.

Parris’ high school days were spent at Bradwell Institute (Hinesville, Ga.), where he was a four-year letterwinner. In 1993 he was named the team’s Best Offensive Player, only to better that his senior season when he was tabbed the Coastal Empire Most Valuable Player and Bradwell’s Best Offensive Player.

Parris graduated from Georgia Southern in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, and received his Masters in Sports Management from Georgia South-ern in 2007. Parris holds his USSF D li-cense and holds a NSCAA National Di-ploma and an Advanced NSCAA National Diploma. He also serves as the Director of the Statesboro Park and Recreation U-15 soccer travel squad. In the summer of 1999, Parris was called up to train with the Jamaican (Reggae Boys) National Team.

North Georgia College & State University is a coeducational state uni-versity emphasizing strong liberal arts, as well as pre-professional, professional, and graduate programs. Serving as a liberal arts university for all of its students and as a military college for its Corps of Cadets, the university is distinct in many ways. As the only four-year public institution in northeast Georgia, NGCSU offers a quality college experience in a beautiful mountain setting, about an hour north of Atlanta. Specializing in leadership training and producing leaders since 1873, the uni-versity has been designated by the state as The Leadership Institution of Georgia . For more than 130 years , North Georgia College & State University has been helping students discover remarkable things about themselves and the world. Our graduates gain a solid foundation on which to build their lives --not only a quality edu-cation, but cherished memories of great ex-periences, lifelong friends and good times. The administration, faculty, and staff at North Georgia are dedicated to the education and traditional values which enable students to excel in whatever field they pursue. Classes are small and atten-tion is personalized. Faculty, not graduate teaching assistants, do all of the teaching at North Georgia. Located in Dahlonega, Geor-gia, a small historic town in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, the university of-fers more than 50 majors to prepare stu-dents for nearly any career. With more than 4,000 students, North Georgia College & State University is large enough to provide

a wide array of opportunities and activities, but small enough to allow personal atten-tion from professors and to foster friend-ships among students. Nestled in the mountains, the gold-rush town of Dahlonega has kept its historic charm and spirit. In this town of fewer than 4,000, students easily walk to nearby restaurants, shops, banks and churches. The campus is safe, clean, and friendly, with the excitement and entertain-ment of metro Atlanta only a 90-minute drive away. Surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest, North Georgia College & State University is an outdoor enthusi-ast’s dream, with endless places for hiking, mountain climbing, hunting, fishing, bird-watching, whitewater rafting, canoeing and camping. This area of North Georgia draws many visitors who enjoy its lush forests, stunning waterfalls and abundant wildlife.

North Georgia’s main campus covers 112 acres with more than 50 buildings. In America’s Best Colleges 2008, U.S. News & World Report ranks North Georgia College & State University in the top 20 in the South among public universities offering undergraduate and master’s programs.

David Potter became the 16th President of North Georgia College & State Uni-versity on January 3, 2005. Before coming to North Georgia, Potter served as the chief executive officer for the Board of Trustees overseeing the eight public universities in Mississippi since 2003. Prior to his position with the state commission, Potter served as President of Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss., from 1999 until 2003. Delta State is a public, regional university of 4,000 students, with programs ranging from bac-calaureate through doctoral degrees and an annual budget of $40 million. Potter also has held administrative and teaching posts at Syracuse University, in Syracuse, N.Y.; Denison University, in Granville, Ohio; and Skillman University, in Damaged, Phillipines. Potter currently serves as a member of the Commission on Leadership and Insti-tutional Effectiveness for the American Council on Education. He has served on various commissions and committees for higher education organizations, such as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (including service on the executive committee) and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. Currently, Potter serves as the Vice President of the Peach Belt Conference Execu-tive Committee. Potter earned his B.A. cum laude in History from Amherst College in Massachusetts, and both his M.A. and Ph.D. in Social Science from Syracuse University. He and his late wife, Pam Mathews, had two children; Elizabeth, now a lawyer in San Diego, and Holly, who works for the State Department.

Randy Dunn is in his 14th year as Athletic Director and his 27th year at North Georgia College & State University in 2009-10.

Dunn served as the head men’s basketball coach for 14 years before retiring in 2003 to serve full-time as Athletic Director. Dunn is an alumnus of North Georgia College, having played basketball for the Saints for three years, graduating in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education.

After completing his undergraduate degree at NGC, Dunn was an assistant coach at Georgia Southwestern State University, where he received his M.Ed. in Physical Education. He became the assistant coach at the State University of West Georgia in 1981 before re-turning to North Georgia College in 1982. In 1996, Dunn’s men’s basketball team won the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference regular season championship and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament. That same year, Dunn was named GACC men’s bas-ketball “Coach of the Year”.

During his ten year tenure as Athletic Director, Dunn oversaw the addition of three new sports: women’s soccer, baseball and softball. The intercollegiate athletic program has produced 12 conference championships in the Georgia Athletic Conference, the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference, and the Southern States Athletic Conference. In the past five years, the athletic department’s facilities have grown with the addition of the NGCSU Baseball, Softball, and Soccer Complex. Most recently, Dunn has overseen the athletic department’s transition from the NAIA to the NCAA and the Peach Belt Conference.

Dunn is married to the former Susan Reed, and they have a 18-year-old son, Jake.

Lindsay Reeves is in her 10th year with North Georgia Col-lege & State University and her third year as Associate Director of Athletics and third year as Senior Women’s Administrator in 2009-10.

In addition to her duties with the Athletic Department, she will continue teaching in the Health & Physical Education Department and serve as Di-rector of the Human Perfor-mance Lab.

Lindsay graduated from Ithaca College with a BS in Physical Education and received her Masters from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Exercise Physiology.

After completing her education she worked as the Director of Testing at Sports Training Institute in N.Y., then Assistant Director of Health & Fitness at General Electric World Headquarters in CT., and from 1990-1999 as the Director of Employee Wellness and faculty member at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Lindsay is married to Dave Reeves and they have a son Tim who is 21, and a daughter Kelley who is 19.

PBC Commissioner David Brunk with Athletic Director Randy Dunn in Memorial Hall for a conference matchup between the Saints and Columbus State University.

VISION STATEMENTThe Peach Belt Conference is committed to providing through its dependent collegiate members, a forum for student participation in athletic, academic and co-curricular events under the auspices of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division II.

We will exemplify the characteristics of a premier intercollegiate conference that prides itself on the inclusion of students of all demo-graphic groups who wish to participate in a well-rounded sports program. Our institutions, our academic goals, our athletic aspirations re-flect a communality of purpose and a commit-ment to excellence in the classroom and on the playing field.

HISTORYNow entering its 20th year of existence in 2009-10, the Peach Belt Conference has be-come one of the elite Division II conferences in the nation. Since its inception in 1990-91, the Peach Belt has developed a consistent history of excellence which continues to this day with 28 national championships and 25 national fi-nalist

Starting with only two championships in 1991, in men’s and women’s basketball, the confer-ence has expanded to 13 championship sports with the addition of women’s golf in the fall of 2009.

The conference traces its roots back to No-vember of 1988 when 11 schools first met in Greenville, S.C. to form a Division II confer-ence. Following a second meeting on Dec. 3, 1989, five of those 11 schools, plus two others,

formed the Peach Belt and begin play in fall 1990.

The Peach Belt was less than a year old before capturing a national championship. The Co-lumbus State golf team took the honor by win-ning the 1992 national crown, the first of three golf championships the Cougars own. One year later, the Lander men’s tennis team began their record-breaking run of eight straight national titles, the first PBC dynasty. Since then, USCA men’s golf has won three straight national titles from 2004-06 while AASU women’s tennis has captured four titles overall.

The 2008-09 season was among the confer-ence’s most memorable. The Armstrong At-lantic State men’s and women’s tennis teams both won their respective national champion-ships – for the second year in a row; a feat only done once before in college tennis. In addi-tion, the Augusta State men’s basketball team became the first to make back-to-back trips to the NCAA Elite Eight, the Armstrong Atlantic became the first PBC volleyball team ever to advance to the Elite Eight and the North Geor-gia softball team was ranked #1 in the nation and reached the World Series.

The seven charter members of the conference were Armstrong Atlantic State University, Columbus State University, Francis Marion University, Georgia College & State Univer-sity, Lander University, USC Aiken and USC Upstate. The name Peach Belt Athletic Confer-ence was adopted in January of 1990 and mod-ified to Peach Belt Conference in May of 2000.

Augusta State joined the conference in 1991

and UNC Pembroke became the ninth member on July 1, 1992. They were followed by Ken-nesaw State University on July 1, 1994, Clay-ton State University on July 1, 1995 and the University of North Florida on July 1, 1997. Kennesaw State and North Florida departed for the Division I ranks in 2005, USC Up-state did the same in 2007, and the conference welcomed in North Georgia College & State University in 2005 and Georgia Southwestern State University in 2006.

For 2009-10, the Peach Belt has grown once again with the addition of the University of Montevallo and Flagler College, giving the PBC 13 members, the most the league has ever had. The addition of the two schools returns the PBC to the state of Florida and expands the league into Alabama for the first time.

David Brunk was named the second PBC com-missioner in May of 2007. Brunk replaced Marvin Vanover, who was the first PBC com-missioner from 1991 to 2007. Brunk is charged with continuing the strong growth of the con-ference as its second era begins.

Dr. David Potter, president of North Georgia College & State University, returns as the pres-ident of the Peach Belt in 2009-10.

The conference currently holds championships in 13 sports, six for men and seven for women. They are men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, baseball, softball and men’s and wom-en’s golf.
