Former Warrior and professional golfer John V. Cook

is in his third year as the head men’s golf coach.

After a successful first season in 2009, Cook was named

West Region Coach of the Year by the Golf Coaches Asso-

ciation of America (GCAA). He took the Warriors to a tied

for second place finish at both the conference and regional

tournaments and a sixth place showing at the NCAA Cham-

pionship.

In 2009-10, Cook again led the team to success as the Warriors won four tour-

naments in seven spring events with two second place finishes. Cal State Stanislaus

placed second at the CCAA tournament and Cook was voted CCAA coach of the

year.

Cook replaced Jim Hanny, who retired after 42 years of service at CSU Stanislaus,

in June of 2008 and became just the second head coach in the history of the men’s golf program at Cal State Stanislaus.

Cook was a Cal State Stanislaus Warrior from 1990-1993 before completing his collegiate career at Division I Boise State.

He became the assistant men’s golf coach at Boise State in 1995 and took over as the head of the program the following year.

As a coach at Boise State, Cook’s responsibilities included recruiting, fund raising, and scheduling for the golf program.

Just prior to joining the Warriors coaching staff, Cook was a professional golfer playing in regional and national mini-tour

tournaments and worked for Titleist golf as a sales and service consultant. He also worked as an instructor at the John Jacobs Golf

School at Stevinson Ranch Golf Course from 1998 to 2002.

Cook obtained his bachelor of arts degree in business management in 1995 from Boise State after attending CSU Stanislaus

from 1990 to 1993. He and his wife, Wendi, a kindergarten teacher, and their 7-year-old son Conner reside in Turlock.
