Welcome...

At Tiffi n University, our students endeavour to excel in both the classroom and the athletic arena. Our athletic pro-grams have enjoyed tremendous success in recent years with conference championships, teams being nationally ranked and challenging at national tournaments. There have been numerous individual ac-colades including All-Americans, and it is no small accomplishment that in the past few years we have set new standards of excellence with our individual and team academic achievements. We expect our student-athletes to be just as successful in the classroom. A recent self study con-ducted by the university indicated that, of all the athletes who completed their eligibility at Tiffi n Uni-versity in the last fi ve years, 95% of those athletes graduated. While many colleges would be ecstatic with these results, we will never be content until it is 100%. We are proud of our rich history and look forward to setting new milestones as we enter the NCAA Division II playing fi eld and the highly competitive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. We are proud of our athletes and what they have accomplished. They have been the force behind the winning tradition that has been established, and I am confi dent the future will also be highly successful for Tiffi n University athletics.

Tiffi n University Head Men’s Soccer Coach Rudy Brownell

Rudy Brownell enters his sixth season as Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Tiffi n Univer-sity. He has a 59-27-7 record since taking over in 2007 from long time Men’s Soccer Coach Ian Day. He has led the Dragons to championships in three of the last four GLIAC Men’s Soccer tournaments.

Brownell, who also holds a 84-39-16 career mark as Head Women’s Coach, helped lead the Dragons to their second consecutive GLIAC Tournament Championship in 2009.

In just seven seasons at the helm of the women’s program, Brownell made his mark with the Dragons women’s soccer program. In 2008, the Dragons women’s soccer program earned admission to the NCAA National Tournament after reaching a rank-ing of 4th in the Midwest Region. The men’s squad, meanwhile, was ranked 6th in the region and just missed an at-large berth to the NCAA tourney despite winning the GLIAC postseason championship.

In 2004 the Lady Dragon program posted an 11-6-1 mark while fi nishing 2nd in the American Mideast Conference and making it to the Region IX fi nal four. In his initial

campaign, after losing nine seniors and starting nine new players, he led the 2003 Dragons women’s soccer program to an 8-6-6 record, a 3rd place fi nish in the American Mideast Conference and also fi nished Runner-up in the Region IX Tournament.

Brownell earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Tiffi n University and also obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Tiffi n University . He competed as defender for the Dragons from 1992-1995. Brownell also helped the Dragons capture the 1992 & 1995 AMC titles. Tiffi n posted a 65-24-3 record during his ca-reer. The 1992 team also made it to the NAIA National Tournament.

After graduation, Brownell played professionally for the Cleveland White Caps of the USISL in 1998. He was also as-sistant coach for the women’s and men’s soccer programs. He helped the women’s soccer program to four American Mideast Conference Championship crowns and to an 84-33-4 overall record. The Dragons went 45-2-1 in the AMC. The team was also ranked nationally from 1998-2000. The women’s team advanced to the region fi nal four and also made it to the national tournament in 2000 and 2002. As the assistant coach for the men’s soccer program, he helped the team win the American Mideast Conference title in 1999, and take second place in 1996 and 2004. From 1996 to 2004 the team also posted a 116-62-13 overall record and made it to the region Final Four two out of the last three years.

The 2012 Tiffi n University men’s soccer team has established itself in the GLIAC over the last four years, winning the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament for the third time in four years in 2011. They have also been knocking on the door for the NCAA Division II tournament and plan

on taking the program to the next level in 2012.

The Dragons, who fi nished with a 10-5-4 over-all record, 5-4-3 in the GLIAC, return 6 starters and 22 letterwinners from 2011. The Dragons’ top returners are All-Region goalkeeper Jeremy Ashley (0.92 GAA, 127 saves) and All-GLIAC defender Ryan Johnstone (0.95 team goals al-lowed per game), while Edison Benda leads the returning offensive players with 1 goal and 5 as-sists. Emmanuel Adjei also returns with 2 goals scored in 2011, while seniors James Dores and Andrew Wilson also brings experience to the defense.

The Dragons will also fi eld a talented group of new recruits, many of them impact players. Leading the way will be forwards Karl Jones (Huddersfi eld, England) and Cedric Bruce-

Kotey (London, England). Samuel Oki (London, England), Oliver Verdult (Solihull, England), and Smart Osadolor (Glasgow, Scotland) will play big roles on defense. Jon O’Brien (North Wigan, England) and Stephen Saddler (Elyria, Ohio) will also see action at midfi eld.

“We have many new talented players that will mix with our established upperclassmen,” said TU Coach Rudy Brownell. “Our success this year will be dictated by how hard we work and how quickly we become used to each other and play like a team.”

Paradiso Athletic Complex Tiffi n University enjoys playing its home games at the Paradiso Athletic Complex. One of many attractive new facilities on display, the Paradiso Athletic Complex is one of the top soccer fi elds in the area. With warmup fi elds, a large out-fi eld electronic scoreboard, a new press box area, fi lming platforms, and team dugouts, the fi eld offers the Tiffi n University soccer teams a great place to call home. The fi eld is just 1.5 miles from the Tiffi n University campus and resides on 78 acres of land that also house all the outdoor athletics teams at TU. The Paradiso Athletic Complex debuted in the fall of 1997. Also included are two softball fi elds, Heminger fi eld, two football practice fi elds, a Nature Preserve, and a developing outdoor track and fi eld facility. Another new addition to the fi elds is the Athletic Fieldhouse. In addition, there is expanded parking accomodating hundreds of vehicles. An indoor practice facility is also in development nearby.

Soccer FacilitiesHeminger Center

The latest addition to the campus, the Heminger Center, features an indoor track and fi eld complex and a 60x50 yard turf indoor practice facility.

One major portion of the build-ing includes an indoor track and four multi-purpose courts that will be used for basketball, vol-leyball, and tennis. The other large portion has artifi cial turf and will be used for practices by the TU football, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, and softball teams, in addition to intramurals, club sports and other recreational ac-tivities. The middle section of the

facility has coaches’ offi ces, locker rooms, an athletic training room, two classrooms, and a food court.

Physical Fitness CenterTU also enjoys using the Tiffi n University Physical Fitness Center, yet another recently expanded facility benefi ting the student-athlete on TU’s ever-growing campus. The facility, which recently doubled in size, features a cutting-edge weight center that is continually upgraded with new equipment.
