Overview( PowerVP Security

')ere are two options to aut)enticate to t)e Partition .evel Agent(

1. (sing the System e+e& %gent to a$thenticate the connection to the partition. This isthe dea$&t option, ater the c&ient '(! is a$thenticated "y the System e+e& %gent, the$ser wi&& "e a"&e to dri&& down into the partition. !n this method there is no need to pro+idea$thentication or signing on to the Partition e+e& %gent

2. The second method is to pro+ide +a&id $ser and password detai&s or the '(! c&ient toconnect to the Partition e+e& %gent

PowerVP pro+ides "oth sec$re and non;sec$re options or connection "etween theagents and the c&ient '(!. E+en tho$gh $ser and password inormation is not transmittedin p&ain tet in non;sec$re mode, the rest o the data is transmitted in p&ain tet. Thesec$re option $ses SS protoco& or comm$nications "etween the PowerVPcomponents. To $se this option, each PowerVP agent wi&& need a SS certiicate.

The PowerVP '(! wi&& connect to the System e+e& %gent $sing a+a&id $ser name and password on the partition. When accessingpartition inormation $sing dri&& down, or when $sing the 8onitorP%- option, the c&ient '(! is connecting to the Partition e+e&

%gent to access the data.

To insta&& PowerVP, mo$nt the insta&& media and changethe appropriate directory or yo$r operating system. Thetwo eec$ta"&e i&es in the directory are PowerVP andPoweVPO!78iO%gent. The PowerVP eec$ta"&e m$st "e

There are three co&$mns, the irst co&$mn ishostname or !P address o the partition. The

second co&$mn is the type o agent r$nning onthe partition, system or partition JP%-K agent.The third co&$mn shows i the perormancemetrics is "eing recorded.

The top pane& on the right hand side o the

main window contains a &ist o a&& the partitionthat are on the Power System.

The recording on the '(! is a c&ient side recordingand not ser+er side, the connection to the agent isimportant. The &ocation o recorded data is conig$ra"&e

The same step can "e repeated or anypartition to "e recorded. To stop the recordings, press the s#$are stop "$tton.
