A message from Principal Fox:
Welcome to the March edition of the Kendale Elementary stu-
dent generated Newsletter. March is a month filled with excite-
ment as we change seasons from Winter to Spring. It's also a
time that most in Miami visit the Dade County Youth Fair. With
the Fair in mind, students have spent the month writing on the
theme of "carnival" which is displayed in the school for all to see.
As our 4th graders have concluded their 2014 FCAT Writes, we
continue to promote writing across the curriculum as a means of
expressing our thoughts, ideas and dreams. Stakeholders, our
continued relationship with you combined with your child's ea-
gerness to learn is essential as we strive to continue moving for-
ward making DREAMS come alive at Kendale Elementary!
Kendale’s Got Talent
By: Isabella Blandon
The talent show was totally different than last year’s show. They had a variety of categories like the best group, best vocalist, viewer’s choice, best inventor, and best dancer. The winner of the groups was “5 Girls and a Guy”, the winner for best vocalist was Sage Hoffman who sang “Let it go”. Viewer’s choice winner
was Isabella Allmerico and she won best dancer also tied with Gia Medina-Acosta. Last but not least, the best innovator was Nathalie Perez who played the flute. That about sums up the fan-tastic talent show! (I wonder who
will win next year)
A bit of Kendale news:
There have been 2 new handicapped parking spaces added to the parking lot in
front of the 800 building.

World News: Castaway Found at Shore
By: Joel Gonzalez
Castaway Jose’ Salvador was found on a remote atoll on January 29
2014. Locals found him and immediately escorted him to the hospital.
The fisherman, who claims he survived 13 months adrift, needed a green
light from doctors from ill-health in the wake of his ordeal. Officers have
kept media away from the exhausted survivor since he conducted a flur-
ry of interviews soon after arriving in Majuro. But a source told AFP he
was expected to leave on Monday night on a flight bound for Hawaii.
From there, he will travel to El Salvador, most likely via the U.S. west
coast, to be reunited with the family that had long thought he was dead.
St. Patrick’s Day
By: Valentina Malo
Saint Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious holiday
celebrated on March 17th. It is named after Saint Patrick
the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of
Ireland. Saint Patrick’s Day was made an official Christian
feast day in the early seventeenth century and is observed
by the Catholic Church. Saint Patrick’s Day is a public
holiday in the Republic of Ireland. It is also widely cele-
brated by the Irish Diaspora around the world; especially
in Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Austral-
ia, and New Zeeland.

Local News: People at Kendale Elementary Take Part in Miami Marathon
By: Isabella Robinson This marathon starts at the American Airlines, heads down north and contin-ues through Miami Beach, downtown Miami, Little Havana, Coconut Grove, and Coral Gables before returning downtown for a finish at Bay Front Park. Samuel Kipkosgei Malakwen of Kenya, Africa crossed the finish line first, win-ning the 26.2-mile race in 2 hours 19 minutes 46 seconds and earning a $2,000 prize, according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald. I also inter-viewed our very own Mr. Fox and Mr. Romero who raced in the half mara-
thon.
Me: Mr. Fox, did you enjoy the marathon?
Mr. Fox: Yes it was a wonderful experience.
Me: How many miles did you run before you got ex-
hausted?
Mr. Fox: 9 mile mark.
Me: Who else did you run with other than Mr. Romero?
Mr. Fox: A college friend.
Me: Did you walk any part?
Mr. Fox: Sometimes I stopped and walked.
Me: Would you run another one?
Mr. Fox: Yes, I am registered for next year.
Mr. Romero’s responses to the same 5 Ques-
tions:
1. Some of the marathon I enjoyed. 2. 12 miles. I wanted to make sure I beat Mr. Fox. 3. One of Mr. Fox’s college friends. 4. Only when I got cramps.
5. I already signed up for next year.
Way to Go Mr. Fox and Mr. Romero—make your dreams a reality
