    All of the kids had just experienced a high wind advisory in their area and the alarms went off in Abingdon, so they had a heightened awareness of needing to be prepared. Virginia Mountain Region

    While we had to shorten the presentation in order to keep the kids attention, they still learned a lot from it. The teachers are planning to use the workbooks in future classes. Northeastern New York Region

    One student mentioned adding an emergency plan for their pet and the students began talking about what could be in a pillowcase for their pet. Triangle Region

  • American Red Cross Pillowcase Project

  • Third Person interactive story and exploration game.

    Teaches children (age 8-11 ) and their families about disasters and emergency preparedness based on the Pillowcase Project curriculum.

    The apps working title is Monster Guard.

    Role-play as an elite group of high school monsters trained to prepare and protect.

    Series of hazard specific training exercises at the Academy to graduate and become part of the Monster Guard.

  • Game Play 12 interactive episodes that

    correspond to Pillowcase Project hazards, each with various missions and puzzles that the player has to overcome.

    Initiation and Graduation. Tornado, Hurricane, Earthquake,

    Volcano, Tsunami, Flood, Wildfire, Severe Winter Weather, Thunder and Lightning.

    Example of 1 of 12 the episodes:

    Home Fire Episode The user will guide the monster around a simulated home removing fire hazards away from stoves and into cabinets, space heaters into safe locations and blowing out candles etc.

  • Opportunities to Engage Become a presenter for your local Red Cross

    Help the Red Cross schedule presentations at schools, after-school programs, and other youth serving sites

    Promote the new Youth Preparedness App when released in late fall 2014

    Help the team at NHQ review and produce new local hazard supplements for Phase 3 curriculum updates
