nature-based design

Connecting with NatureNature-based design, as outlined in a Herman Miller Research Summary, goes a step further than traditional sustainable approaches. By combining sustainable strategies and LEED opportunities with connections to natural elements, designers are able to increase workplace productivity while simultaneously reducing stress levels and increasing building efficiencies. SG&A is committed to applying the principles of nature-based design into all design expressions; incorporating features found in natural habitats, increasing access to natural daylight and expanding visual pathways to outside views are all pieces of this integrative and holistic methodology.

BIM [building information modeling]

Seeing is Believing : BIM & 3D VisualizationSG&A is committed to improving design processes and client interactions through the use of building information modeling (BIM) technology. BIM is the creation and use of coordinated, consistent, computable information about a building project that yields reliable digital representations of the building in both two dimensional and three dimensional representations used for design decision-making, production of high-quality construction documents, clash detection, performance predictions, cost-estimating, construction planning, and facilities management.

Today’s workplace is all about offering an efficient yet dynamic space that maximizes productivity and motivates employees. However, one size does not fit all. Your space should be a true reflection of your unique culture and corporate goals. While SG&A is well versed in current metrics and trends, we are not bound by them. Since our focus is you, our client, we listen to your needs and work with you to assess your past, present and future. We then use that information to formulate a design solution that is custom tailored for you.

Spagnolo Gisness & Associates is uniquely qualified to deliver the experience, resources and services needed to meet your challenges and exceed your expectations.

Although we have a particular affinity for working with companies and organizations that are “on the move”, that is where the similarity between our clients end. Whether they are healthcare service providers, research organizations, manufacturers, software engineers, defense contractors or law firms and whether they are going commercial, going public or going international, our design teams create environments that work best for each unique company and respond accordingly to what they do and how they do it.

Our work is inspired and informed by the unique ambitions of each client and, because each client is different, our response is distinct each and every time. Our creativity is enhanced, never hampered, by the realities of aggressive schedules and tight budgets.

we space vs. me space project type: Corporate Headquarters area: 30,000 Square Feet

Black Duck Software’s new office space is all about the employees. Finishes, furnishings, color, and graphics became the perfect platform to express the duality of their brand and its personality. In an effort to encourage collaboration and foster a sense of community, the design team carefully strategized the balance of “we space” versus “me space.” By co-locating the game room, café and meeting areas with the main reception zone, SG&A was able to provide a centralized hub of activity for breaks, collaboration and dining. To balance the focused nature of their engineers’ work with the fun and playful personality of their brand culture, interactive display shelves backed with nature photography became a home for their signature rubber duckies. Similarly, custom wallcoverings encrypt a clever story about the company’s history with a stream of binary code.

The SG&A design team provided focus on both redefining Acme’s brand identity as well as incorporating that identity into the built environment. The environmental branding created by the team reflects and supports the company’s commitment to its staff and corporate customers. We identified the key messages to infuse into the workplace and communicated those through the use of finishes, materials, colors, environmental graphics, ancillary seating and special lighting. This new office facility provides an opportunity for visitors to experience Acme’s corporate vision and values as well as manufacturing and lab operations.
