Communion from the Chalice when Sick The occurrences of colds and flu are currently increasing, a reminder to everyone to consider the wellbeing of your fellow parishioners.

If you are not feeling well, we would respectfully ask you to please refrain from receiving Communion from the Chalice during Mass.

    From the Pastors Desk

    Dear Parish family,

Well again another very enjoyable evening this time with the Parish Readers. There were lively and informative questions from the crowd followed by some equally lively chatter over coffee and nibbles.

Ive really enjoyed spending time with the various people who have attended. Thanks to the brave new people who attended and have yet to read. Not easy walking through the door that first time and I know we truly appreciate their generosity in standing up in front of the congregation the first day they read. Not everyone is called to be a reader and we all have gifts that we use for one purpose or another and all for the kingdom of God. I am very appreciative of those who are able to assist in the liturgy by reading.

Just a reminder I guess to all those on our rosters: dont forget the reverent pause between readings. That pause gives all of us time to take on what has been read. And it allows for a little bit of movement between readers and cantors. Very important to have that bit of silence can we ever have enough silence in our lives?

Ive asked that the readers as they come forward come to the front of the Altar and bow before ascending to the Ambo (lectern): I think it adds some ritual to an action that can sometimes be over looked for its importance. Its a reverent bow rather than a genuflection and it is gentle rather than huge.

We sing the Alleluia of course and if we arent singing it then we dont say. Not as concerned about that on the weekday but really want to focus on the Sunday liturgy the source and summit of our week and faith.

The readers process in as the ordinary ministers of the first and second readings. It doesnt matter who goes first of course but when we start carrying the book of the Gospels in again then that person will go second. The second reader does the prayers of the faithful but if you arent comfortable with those prayers you just need to find another reader. On the roster of course the first reader is listed first and the second listed second.

If you wouldnt mind doing a couple of things for me? If you are rostered on would you please make yourself known to either the sacristan or to me. It helps to know you are there. And with all our rosters if you are rostered on and cant be present would you please make contact with someone else on the roster to take your place.

Next on my supper list the sacristans!!!

Catholic Newspapers Available Both The Catholic Leader (Brisbane) and The Catholic Weekly (Sydney) newspapers are available at a cost of $2 each from our churches.

    Have a great week everyone,

    Fr Greg

Reflecting on Todays Gospel Why might Jesus have used the device of comparing

the kingdom to familiar images? What image could you use to describe the Kingdom

of God? What is your understanding of the kingdom of God?

Parish Social Justice Group ....the Churchs social teaching is itself a valid instrument of evangelisation. As such, it proclaims God and his mystery of salvation in Christ to every human being, and for that very reason reveals man to himself. In this light, and only in this light, does it concern itself with everything else: the human rights of the individual, and in particular of the working class, the family and education, the duties of the State, the ordering of national and international society, economic life, culture, war and peace, and respect for life from the moment of conception until death. Centesimus Annus, 54

Population Control is the theme chosen for the presentation at the next meeting of the Parish Social Justice Group. ....What is population control? ...Is it necessary? ...What is God's/man's role? ...What is cultural imperialism? ...How this effects us all?

Please join us for the presentation and discussion on Wednesday 24th June at 5:30pm to 6:45pm in the Parish Hall Meeting Room, Forster. The Parish Social Justice Group is open to the community and all are invited to attend.

Mary Our Mother In the Book of the Apocalypse, we read of the vision of "the woman clothed in the sun and with the moon at her feet". The woman is about to give birth to a child and a great dragon is waiting to devour it. Frustrated in the attempts to overcome the mother and child, "the dragon went elsewhere to make war on the rest of her children, the men who keep God's commandments and hold fast to the truth concerning Jesus". (Apoc. 12).

Christian tradition has seen in this "woman" a reference to Mary, the mother of Jesus, who is also the mother of his followers.

Mary's spiritual motherhood of all people is one of the most ancient of Christian traditions; for Mary gave birth to Jesus not as a private person but as our saviour and head. Even within Mary's virginal womb, Christ our saviour bore the exalted title of head of the Church. "The conception of Christ is the beginning of the Christian people and the birth of the Head is the birth of the Body". (St. Leo the Great)

Through baptism, we have been united with Christ to share with him his life and glory; we have become brothers and sisters of Christ, adopted children of the same Father in heaven. And Mary is the spiritual mother of Christ's brothers and sisters by grace just as surely as she is the physical mother of Christ.

"Christ is not in the head nor in the body but the whole Christ is in both head and body together". (St. Augustine) And Mary is the mother of the whole Christ. "She is the mother of the members of Christ ... having co-operated by a positive act of love in the birth of the faithful in the Church, who are the members of that head". (St. Augustine)

Since Mary is our mother, she has all of a mother's intense love and interest for us. We may go to her with confidence - confiding to her our interests, laying before her our sorrows and difficulties, having recourse to her in all our needs and temptations.

There are many people who regularly ask for our Lady's assistance for the grace of a good confession, for spiritual advancement, for peace in the home, for conversion of sinners, for financial assistance, for a Catholic partner in life, for better health, for daily needs both spiritual and temporal.

But remember: Mary does not operate independently of God. Mary will only ask God for what is God's will for us. And her constant reply to us will be the one she gave to the servants at the marriage feast of Cana: "Do whatever he tells you". (John 2, 5.)

Catholics say to one another, "Pray for me," because they know that all the members of the Body of Christ help one another. They ask the saints in heaven to pray for them, because these are close to God and their prayers are powerful. But there is no member of the Church closer and dearer to Christ than Mary.

She is far superior to all the angels and saints. Hence the Church pays her unique honour, but always short of adoration which is due to God alone, After the Lord's prayer and the Creed, there is no better prayer than the "Hail Mary." Millions at all times of the day, in all parts of the world say it. It is made up of the words of the angel Gabriel and of Elizabeth to Mary, to which is added the petition of the Church.

"Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen'

Parish Logo As the result of our notice regarding the design of a new Parish Logo we have received correspondence from Anne Moloney and comments from others supporting the existing logo. The Parish Team has now decided to recommend to the Parish that we maintain the existing logo with the following explanation of it.

The bridge is one of the towns landmarks and symbolises the link between Forster and Tuncurry making us one single community of Forster Tuncurry.

The cross in the sky shows that Christ is with us. The two communities coming together on the

bridge represented by the young, the old, the sick/disabled, the family.

The sense of a caring and inclusive community The dolphins and palm trees representing the local

environment as part of our identity.

This logo was arrived at thanks to the artistic talents of Debbie Tinker (daughter of Dorothy Tinker) back in 1989 and has served our Parish since that time.
