This week end’s readings from the Old and the New Testaments teach us about the wisdom hidden in small things and humble actions. The first reading and the Gospel present poor widows who sacrificially gave their whole lives and means of livelihood to God. The story of both widows is inspiring.

In the first reading, taken from the first book of Kings, a poor widow who has barely enough food for herself and her son welcomes the prophet Elijah as a man of God, shares her food with him and receives her reward in the form of a continuing daily supply of food. It tells us how God rewards our generosity, as we share our

    livelihood with the hungry.

In the Gospel, Jesus contrasts the external signs of honour sought by the scribes with the humble, sacrificial offering of a poor widow and declares that she has found true honour in God’s eyes. The poor widows in both the first reading and the Gospel gave away all that they possessed for the glory of God.

In the eyes of God, a small piece of bread and a few coins shared with love are of greater merit than the banquets given lavishly for self-glorification. The offering God wants from us is not our material possessions, but our hearts and lives. What is hardest to give is ourselves in love and concern, because that gift costs us more than reaching for our purses.

Even the little mite we offer and the single minute we spent for God

and His people will be counted and rewarded by the Lord. Let us

remember the promise of Jesus that those who give up material

possessions for the sake of the Kingdom will receive hundredfold.

  • 24 Hour Adorat ion @ Mary Immaculate Church, Ashmore.

From Friday 30 Nov till Saturday 1 Dec you are invited to join us at Mary Immaculate Church, Ashmore for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament,

Benediction, guided biblical reflections, musical worship, reconciliation, silent

reflection, a walkable rosary and shared meals. (See posters with schedule for details). Beginning and ending with a 9am

Mass on both days, this event is hosted by Southport Catholic Parish with the Veniré Youth of Gold Coast to celebrate the Year of Youth 2018, but is intended for the whole parish community. All are welcome to experience this Love. Anyone who is interested to join this 24-hour adoration please register your name and the time of your availability in the register kept in front of our churches or please contact Chris Underwood on 0403428302 or send an email to [email protected]

“I make a holy hour each day in the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. All my sisters of the Missionaries of Charity make a daily holy hour, as well, because we find that through our daily holy hour our love for Jesus becomes more intimate, our love for

each other more understanding, and our Love for the poor more compassionate. Our holy hour is our daily family prayer where we get together and pray the Rosary before the exposed Blessed Sacrament the first half hour, and the second half we pray in silence. Our adoration has doubled the number of our vocations.

The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time that you will spend on earth. Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen your union with Him and make your soul everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in Heaven and will help bring about an everlasting peace on earth.” St

    Mother Theresa of Calcutta

When we think about St Mother Theresa of Calcutta, we see an

active woman working with the poor and disadvantaged but St Mother Theresa was primarily a woman of prayer. The time spent in front of the Blessed Sacrament was essential to her ministry to the poor. In our Parish we are going to have the 24 hour adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. I encourage all parishioners to participate in this time of prayer and meditation. Before Christmas our lives become very busy so a few moments of silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament will help us to enter the time of Advent with the right attitude and perspective.

    GIFTS PROCESSION

    As Gentle as Silence

Oh, the love of my Lord is the essence of all that I love here on earth. All the beauty I see has been given to me, and his giving is gentle as silence.

Every day, every hour, every moment has been blessed

by the strength of his love. At the turn of each tide he is there at my side, and his touch is as gentle as silence.

There’ve been times when I’ve turned from his presence, and I’ve walked other paths, other ways. But I’ve called on his name in the dark of my shame, and his mercy was gentle as silence. © Estelle White 1925-2011, McCrimmon Publishing Co. Ltd.

If we have died with him, then we shall live with him; if we hold firm we shall reign with him. R

If anyone serves me, then they must follow me; Where ever I am my servants will be.R

Make your home in me as I make mine in you; those who remain in me bear much fruit. R

If you remain in me and my word lives in you; then you will be my disciples. R

Those who love me are loved by my Father; we shall be with them and dwell in them. R

Australia/and guide us on the pilgrim way

    of the Plenary Council.

one another/and to recognize Jesus, our

    companion on the road.

Give us the courage to tell our stories/ and

to speak boldly of your truth.

Give us ears to listen humbly to each

other/and a discerning heart to hear

    what you are saying.

Lead your Church into a hope - filled

future/that we may live the joy of the

    Gospel.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord/bread for

the journey from age to age. Amen

    Our Lady Help of Christians,

    pray for us.

St Mary MacKillop, pray for us.

    Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made,

consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

    and by the Holy Spirit

was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with

    the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his

    kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the

Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of

the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
