PRIEST CORNER - ESQUINA DEL SACERDOTEST. ANTHONY OF PADUA DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH

ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH, an ancient yet modern saint. His baptismal name was Fernando de Bouillon, a descendant of a noble and illustrious family from Lisbon.

At the age of 15, he asked to consecrate himself to God in the Augustinian order; there, he was ordained a Priest. Later he decided to be a martyr, and for that, he entered the Franciscan order where he received the name ANTHONY.

He was sent to the Missions, fell ill, and returned to Europe an in, France, and Italy; he exercised his preaching skills to great advantage. He always put Christ at the center of his life, his thought, action, and preaching. He had a great love for God and a lot of faith that even in life, he performed great miracles and converted many heretics, those who denied beliefs of the Catholic religion.

Saint Anthony recommended in his sermons: - “If you preach JESUS; he softens hard hearts, - if you invoke him; he sweetens the bitter temptations, - if you think of Him; he illuminates your heart, -if you read to him he satiates your mind. According to the teachings of Saint Anthony: Prayer is made up of 4 essential attitudes: a) Confidently open your heart to God. b) Converse affectionately with Him. c) Present your own needs to Him. d) Praise him and thank him. Saint Anthony wrote, “Charity is the soul of faith, it makes it alive; without love, faith dies.” He invites the faithful to think about true wealth: that of the heart, by making us good and merciful, makes us accumulate treasures in Heaven.

Saint Anthony witnessed the love of God with word and deed; he teaches the beauty of sincere and gratuitous love. Because of his great love and faith in God, he did great miracles in life and continues to do so. Saint Anthony is highly revered in the entire Church for his sound and solid doctrine and his fervent piety.

For the richness of his teachings in his sermons, he was proclaimed Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius XII. Pope Francis suggests that we repeat with Saint Anthony: “I see my Lord” because it is necessary to see the Lord in the face of each brother, offering everyone comfort, hope, and the possibility of finding the word of God. Let us ask Saint Anthony for all those who preach the word of God, especially for the Priests and Deacons.

SAN ANTONIO DE PADUA DOCTOR DE LA IGLESIA Santo Antiguo pero a la vez moderno.Su nombre de bautismo fue Fernando de Bouillon, descendiente de noble e ilustre familia de Lisboa. A los 15 años pidió consagrarse a Dios en la orden de los Agustinos, allí fue ordenado Sacerdote. Más tarde decidió ser mártir y para eso entro a la orden de los Franciscanos donde recibió el nombre de ANTONIO. Fue enviado a las Misiones, se enfermó y regreso a Europa y en Francia y en Italia ejerció con gran provecho sus dotes de predicador.

Puso siempre a Cristo como centro de su vida, de su pensamiento, su acción y su predicación. Tenía un gran amor a Dios y mucha fe que aun en vida hizo grandes milagros y convirtió a muchos herejes o sea a los que negaban algunas creencias de la religión católica.

San Antonio recomendaba en sus sermones: -“Si predicas a JESUS; el ablanda los corazones duros,- si lo invocas; endulza las amargas tentaciones, -si piensas en El; te ilumina el corazón, -si le lees te sacia la mente.

Según las enseñanzas de San Antonio: La oración se compone de 4 actitudes indispensables: a) Abrir confiadamente el corazón a Dios. b) Conversar afectuosamente con El. c) Presentarle las propias necesidades. d) Alabarlo y darle gracias.

San Antonio escribió “La Caridad es el alma de la fe, la hace viva; sin el amor la fe muere” e Invita a los fieles a pensar en la verdadera riqueza: la del corazón que haciéndonos buenos y misericordiosos nos hace acumular tesoros en el Cielo. San Antonio testimonió con la palabra y las obras el amor de Dios, enseña la belleza del amor sincero y gratuito. Por su gran amor y fe en Dios hizo grandes milagros en vida y los sigue haciendo.

San Antonio es muy venerado en la Iglesia entera por su doctrina sana y sólida y su piedad fervorosa. Por la riqueza de sus enseñanzas en sus sermones fue proclamado Doctor de la Iglesia por el Papa Pio XII.

El Papa Francisco nos sugiere repetir con San Antonio: “Veo a mi Señor” pues es necesario ver al señor en el rostro de cada hermano (a) ofreciendo a todos el consuelo, la esperanza y la posibilidad de encontrar la palabra de Dios

Pidámosle a San Antonio por todos los que predican la palabra de Dios especialmente por los Sacerdotes y Diácono.

Prayer and Action is a 5-day mission trip that takes place within Southwest Kansas. Participants stay at the host parish in simple accommodations; prepare their own meals; join the parish for daily Mass; and serve local families that are in need. Typical services include painting, minor repairs, house and yard cleaning, etc. and is carried out for Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
