What is PBIS? Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, data-driven framework proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school’s sense of safety, and support improved academic outcomes.

The foundation of PBIS is that continual teaching, combined with acknowledgement or feedback of positive student behavior, will reduce unnecessary discipline problems and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety, and learning.

West Central’s PBIS plan is the RCS Way. The plan consists of three behavioral expectations: Ready to Learn, Courteous, and Safe. Student expectations within these three behavioral goals will be encouraged daily. Students are provided ample opportunities to earn Wolf Bucks for meeting behavior, attendance, and safety expectations.

Students can purchase immediate rewards with Wolf Bucks at their grade level or teacher “Wolf Bucket”. Students can also save their Wolf Bucks to participate in nine-week celebrations.

Benefits of Family Involvement with PBIS:

Higher test scores

Better grades

Better attendance

Higher levels of homework completion

More positive student motivation Improved attitudes about school work

Family Involvement has a positive effect on student

behavior:

When families are involved, students exhibit more positive attitudes and behavior.

When students report feeling support from both home and school, they have more self-confidence, feel school is more important, and they tend to do better in school.

Student at-risk behaviors such as

alcohol use, violence, and other anti-

social behaviors decrease as parent

involvement increases.

School Attendance is very

important for your child’s

academic success.

Last year, we had 63% of students

that missed 1-5 school days. We

had 24% of students that missed

6-15 school days. We had 1% of

students that missed more than 15

school days.

Research indicates that the primary

reason for high-quality attendance

data is the relationship between

student attendance and student

achievement. Teacher effectiveness

is the strongest school-related

determinant of student success, but

chronic student absence reduces even

the best teacher's ability to provide

learning opportunities. Students who

attend school regularly have been

shown to achieve at higher levels than

students who do not have regular

attendance. This relationship between

attendance and achievement may

appear early in a child's school career.

A recent study looking at young

children found that absenteeism in

kindergarten was associated with

negative first grade outcomes such as

greater absenteeism in later years and

lower achievement in reading, math,

and general knowledge.

How can parents help with PBIS?
