New NOGS Website: NOGS is developing a new website, which should be launched on or before January 1, 2015. Watch for it! – www.nogs.org

April 27 – NOGS Annual Dr. Bill Craig Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Money Hill Country Club & Golf Course, Abita Springs, Louisiana – See forthcoming announcement on the NOGS Website’s Events page.

New Publication: Under the leadership of NOGS Member Chris McLindon, work is under way to compile maps across south Louisiana showing the traces of faults that reach the surface. Research has shown that movement on the downthrown side of these faults is the main dynamic causing subsidence and land loss, not the dredging of access canals by petroleum companies, as alleged in the recent law suit against 95 petroleum companies. Publication date has not been established. Take a look at Chris’ award-wining presentation: Rethinking Coastal Restoration: The Delta Cycle and Land Area Change in Coastal Louisiana. Presented by him at the March 2014 NOGS Luncheon. Please note this download is greater than 50MB and may take some time with older internet connections.

Earth Science Education Outreach: The Society and its Memorial Foundation has pledged a $50,000 contribution for the construction of the new Louisiana Children’s Museum in City Park, and for the new St. Tammany Parish Children’s Museum to be built in Covington, Louisiana. The funds will be handled through PIPE (Petroleum Industry Promoting Education). Each of the 23 local societies affiliated with the industry will contribute to the cause. NOGS’ contribution will enable it to play a key role in the scientific accuracy of the geology and paleontology exhibits in both museums.
