Middle East and North Africa 2015
The wave of continuing change sweeping across the Middle East, North Africa
and near Asia is rooted in the basic desire for increased economic and social
opportunity. Economic growth is vital to the establishment of political
stability and the creation of individual opportunity and prosperity. The
enormous youth population across the region is dynamic, enthusiastic,
energetic and hungry to learn and grow; with an abundance of ideas for
improving their own – and their countrys ! prospects, they yet need training
and guidance on bringing those ideas to life.
The "oca!"ola "ompany, in partnership with the #nited $tates %epartment
of $tate and &ndiana #niversitys 'elley $chool of (usiness, is pleased toannounce the "oca!"ola MENA $cholarship )rogram for *+-. or the fourth
year, one hundred college!level students will be selected from ten countries
across the Middle East, North Africa and near Asia to participate in a one
month long, multi!faceted and immersive residential program at a leading #$
business school, in which they will learn best American business practices,
re/ne their entrepreneurship s0ills, and develop the tools to create their own
business plans. $tudents will be selected from Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt,
1ordan, Morocco, )a0istan, )alestinian Authority areas, and Tunisia.

$tates Embassy in "airo to send + Egyptian high school students to attend
the Engineering &nnovation $ummer )rogram at 1ohns 2op0ins #niversitys
3hiting $chool of Engineering in (altimore, Maryland. This program was part
of The "ompanys support of )artners for a New (eginning 4)N(5, for which
Muhtar 'ent, "oca!"olas "hairman and "E6, serves as 7ice "hairman. )N(
is an alliance of public!private partnerships committed to deepening
engagement between the #nited $tates and local communities on issues ofeducation, e8change, economic opportunity, and science and technology, in
order to advance the vision outlined by )resident (arac0 6bama in his *++9
"airo $peech.

"airo, Amman, and the #$ "onsulate in 1erusalem, the program e8panded to
include ++ college!level students who participated in a one month business
course at &ndiana #niversitys prestigious 'elley $chool of (usiness; they
visited 3ashington %" – including a memorable afternoon at the $tate
%epartment – and /nished with a trip to the "oca!"ola "ompanys
headuarters in Atlanta.
&n *+<, the program was e8tended to include Afghanistan and )a0istan.
%uring the initial application phase on the website scholarships.coca!
cola.com, the program saw a boost in popularity by garnering over <=+,+++
registered users to submit ideas and vote on ideas they felt would >Ma0e
Tomorrow (etter? in their home countries. %uring the *+< and *+@
programs, the initiative had over <,+++ applicants and over -++,+++registered users on the website.
&n *+@, the program too0 place during much of the 2oly Month of :amadan.
3hile this proved to be challenging, the scholarship winners con/rmed that
they were capable of studying and performing at the highest of levels,
emphasied by their enthusiasm during the entire program at &ndiana
#niversity and at the conclusion of the program in 3ashington %.". and
Atlanta.

The ++ "oca!"ola MENA $cholars for *+< will be drawn from eight
countries and territories ! Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt, 1ordan, Morocco,

2.2. Residential program at Kelley School of Business, ndiana
!ni"ersity
$cholarship winners will gain a basic understanding of American business
practices through an accelerated @!wee0 curriculum based on the core
elements of the 'elley $chool of (usiness undergraduate program, one of the
top ran0ed programs in the #nited $tates. &n order to encourage student
engagement and participation, students will be divided into small groups of
/ve during instructional portions of the program and each group will wor0
with the same 'elley faculty members. 2ighlighted courses will includeB
&ntroduction to (usiness, "ommunications, inance, Accounting, Mar0eting,
6perations, $trategy, 2uman :esources, and Entrepreneurship. The $cholars
will engage in a wide variety of instructional, interactive, and e8periential
sessions, in addition to group discussions, cultural and regional!speci/c tal0s,as well as the practical applications and implications of what they have
learned in a variety of business settings.
The $cholars will conclude their course with a formal presentation on their
group proCect, in which they will present a practical feasibility study that
could be implemented in their home country. An elite panel will Cudge the
/nal presentations; this panel will be composed of faculty from the 'elley
$chool of (usiness faculty, associates from The "oca!"ola "ompany,
representatives of the #$ $tate %epartment, venture capitalists and private
euity investors.
E8posure to business in the contest of American culture is an important goal
of the program. Therefore, students will participate in /eld trips each wee0
throughout the program; on these /eld trips the students will be able to
interact with associates from local businesses and industry as well as
government oDcials from the state of &ndiana.

The *+- program, similar to the *+@ program, will ta0e place during themaCority of the 2oly Month of :amadan. The accommodations &ndiana
#niversity ma0es for the students allows them the chance to fully participate
in the program, while also being able to observe the traditions of :amadan.
