Boyle’s Career Timeline• Bowling Green State B.S. Physical Education in 1979 M.S. Athletic Administration and Recreation in 1982• Heidelberg Collge (1984-86) Head Coach Cross Country and Track & Field• U.S. Naval Academy (1987-present) Head Coach - Cross Country Assistant Coach - Track & Field

Boyle is in her 30th year at the helm of the Navy women’s cross country team, she has led the Mids to four Patriot League Championships in the last nine seasons. The Mids posted a perfect 6-0 record in 2015, including a fifth-straight win over Army. In 29 years as Navy’s head coach, Boyle has guided her teams to a 146-21 (.870) record.

Continuing its dominance over Army, Boyle guided Navy to its fifth-straight N-Star victory over the Black Knights, 23-35, in West Point during the 2015 season. The Mids followed up with a strong perfor-mance in the Patriot League Championship, finishing as the runner ups to Bucknell.

During Boyle’s tenure, seven Navy runners have competed at the NCAA Division I Championship. Boyle’s first national championship qualifier came in 1992 with Kerry O’Neill, followed by Jackie Hayes in 1995, Rebecca Cline in 1997, Melissa Foon in 2000, Amy Watson in 2008, Palacio in 2011 and Beveridge in 2012.

Boyle led Navy to its fourth consecutive victory over archrival Army, 26-29, in 2014. The Mids placed fourth in the Patriot League Championship.

Navy finished first in three meets in 2013 season, including again winning annual Salty Dog Invi-tational. After defeating Army, 24-31, the Mids fell short of their third consecutive Patriot League title, finishing third.

For the second consecutive year in 2012, a Mid claimed the league’s individual crown as Annie-Norah Beveridge took first place overall. Like Patriot League champion Jess Palacio in 2011, Beveridge also went on to earn All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors and receive a bid to compete in the NCAA Championships.

In 2011 Jess Palacio had one of the best years ever by a Navy cross country runner. She placed first in four meets, including at the Patriot League Championship, and earned her second consecutive All-Mid Atlantic Region honor. Boyle guided the Mids to a pair of invitational titles in 2010 as Navy finished first at both the Lehigh Invitational and the Great American Festival. Palacio won four individual titles in the fall of `10 and became a first-team All-Patriot League honoree by placing third at the conference championship.

In 2007, Boyle led Navy to a share of its first Patriot League championship, before claiming the title outright in 2008. Boyle was named Patriot League Coach of the Year on both occasions. Boyle has led the Mids to significant honors on both the Division II (1987-1990) and Division I (1991-present) levels. In Navy’s last-four years of Division II competition, Boyle coached the Mids to three-straight undefeated seasons and four-consecutive top-five finishes in the NCAA Division II Championship, with five runners garnering All-America honors. Boyle was named Eastern Region Coach of the Year in three-straight seasons (1988-90).

Boyle guided the program into the Division I ranks in 1991, and the Mids immediately achieved success by capturing the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship. In 1997 and 2007, Boyle was named Navy’s Fall Coach of the Year after she led Navy to an undefeated season. As a coach with the track team, she guided Marty Shue to a title in the indoor 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Championship.

In 1995, Boyle was selected as team leader for the USA Ekiden International Marathon in Beijing, China. She was also selected to help rewrite the level I track & field certification curriculum at the USA Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

In 1999, she received her C.S.C.S. certification as a nationally accredited certified strength and condi-tioning specialist. The summer of 2001 saw Boyle serve as an assistant track & field coach for Team USA in the Deaf Track & Field World Games, held in Rome, Italy.

Boyle, a 1979 graduate of Bowling Green, received her degree in physical education and earned her master’s degree in athletic administration and recreation from her alma mater in 1982. Athletically, she competed in both track and lacrosse, specializing in the 400 and 4x400-meter relay on the track and was a leading scorer for the Falcons’ lacrosse squad. Her coaching career began at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, where she coached the women’s cross country and track & field teams from 1984-86, developing two national champions and nine All-Americans.

Boyle is a tenured professor in the Naval Academy’s Physical Education Department, teaching per-sonal conditioning, rock climbing, kayaking and triathlon training. Boyle also participates in road races and triathlons.

Administratively, Boyle served as the president of the NCAA Division I Women’s Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association (1999-2001), as well as a committee member on the USA Track & Field Coaching Education Board and the United States Track Coaches Association Long Distance Advisory Board.

Season OutlookThe Navy women’s cross country team will begin its 2016 slate at the

Mount St. Mary’s Duals on Friday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. The Mids return two All-Patriot League runners and six letterwinners.

Despite the loss of four-time All-Patriot League runner Kelley Robinson departing due to graduation, the Mids bring back four runners that finishes in the top 35, included the 2015 Patriot League Freshman of the Meet Erin McDonnell (Traverse City, Mich.) and second team all-league Ali Valenti (Lansdale, Pa.). McDonnell and Valenti, both of whom are sophomores, finished seventh and 10th, respectively, with just six seconds separating to the two.

Along with sophomore sensations McDonnell and Valenti, Navy’s senior leadership will include Katie Jan (Ridgeley, W.Va.), Brenna McDannold (Overland Park, Kan.) and Mary Cate Scully (Fairfax Station, Va.). Jan, a 2013 letterwinner and who has been plagued with injuries, will serve as this season’s team captain. Along with Jan, McDannold and Scully will be two stalwarts to the program as both runners played a big part in last season’s runner up finish, placing 17th and 33rd, respectively.

Junior Allison Parks (Lisbon, Ohio) and sophomores Rachel Fairbanks (Jamesville, N.Y.) and Maddy Marrone (Belfon, N.J.) all look to build from the 2015 season. Parks, who also competes on the track and field team in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, looked stronger towards the latter half of 2015, finishing fifth amongst Navy runners in the Army-Navy Star meet and eighth amongst Navy runners in the Patriot League Championship.

Navy will have a strong schedule to prepare for both the league championship and NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. The Mids will use the Mount St. Mary’s Duals (Sept. 2) and Salty Dog Invitational (Sept. 10) to not only

practice their pack mentality, but to see where each runner is on the team to find the top 12 competitors. Navy then will use its top 12 runners in two meets that will be full of talent, which includes the Roy Griak Invitational (Sept. 24) and the Paul Short Run (Oct. 1).

Following a week off for rest, Navy will use 10 of its best runners to compete in the annual Star Meet against archrival Army West Point. The Mids’ senior class is unfamiliar to losing to the Black Knights, having won all three previous meetings. Navy is currently riding a five-meet winning streak against Army and own a 19-11 overall mark.

After the Star Meet, Navy again will have a week off before preparing to the 2016 Patriot League Championship, hosted by Lafayette, on Saturday, Oct. 29. The Mids gave Bucknell a run for its money in last season’s championship, falling just a mere 17 points behind the Bison for a runner up finish. Navy will bring back six of its nine runners that finished in the top 52.

With one more week to rest after the league championship, the Mids will send their top 12 runners to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, hosted by Penn State, on Friday, Nov. 11. The top-two teams in this weekend’s regional championship will advance to the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 19. In addition to the top-two teams, 13 at-large teams will be selected from a national pool to partake in the national championship. The top-four runners not associated with the top-two teams to cross the finish line this Saturday will earn an automatic bid as an individual to the NCAA Championship. Also, two at-large runners will be selected from a national list to compete at the national championship.

Now in its third decade as an all-sport conference combining academic and athletic excellence, the Patriot League sponsors championships in 24 men and women’s sports. Initially started as an NCAA Division I-AA football conference in 1986, the Patriot League became an all-sport conference in 1990 and includes American, Army West Point, Boston University, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland and Navy as full members, and Fordham, Georgetown, MIT and Richmond as associate members. These institutions are among the oldest and most prestigious in the nation and their alumni have and continue to play leadership roles in shaping our country.

The Patriot League’s mission is simple: to provide successful competitive athletic experiences while maintaining high academic standards, and to prepare its student-athletes to be leaders in society. During the 2015-16 academic year, Patriot League student-athletes and teams accomplished the following:

H 88 Patriot League teams earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for ranking in the top 10 percent of their sport in Academic Progress Rate (APR), with 76 squads earning perfect scores.

H The Patriot League ranked second among all conferences in Public Recognition Awards, and matched the Ivy League for the highest percentage of teams earning the honor at 45 percent.

H 89 percent of Patriot League teams scored at or above the national average in APR, while more than 70 percent had at least a 990 score in the multi-year rate.

H 12 student-athletes earned Capital One Academic All-America recognition, including first-team accolades for Bucknell’s Matt DelMauro (Football) and Navy’s Ellen Bradford (Women’s Swimming and Diving) and Rebecca Greenberg (Women’s Rowing).

H Three Patriot League student-athletes earned NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, with the group including Bradford and Sam Peckham (Men’s Cross Country) from Navy and Veronica Toro (Women’s Rowing) from MIT.

H Bradford and Loyola’s Franz Rassman (Men’s Basketball) were named the Corvias Patriot League Female and Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honorees, respectively.

H 43 Patriot League student-athletes received Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition, an increase of nine honorees over last season.

H There were 2,816 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2015-16, including 258 with a semester GPA of at least 4.0.

H Boston University’s Emily Tillo (Women’s Golf) and Navy’s Patrick Keena (Men’s Lacrosse) were named the League’s Sportsmanship Award winners.

H Navy won the Corvias Patriot League Presidents’ Cup for the third straight time and fourth in the last five years.

H The Mids also won the men’s title while Bucknell claimed the women’s crown.

H Navy beat Yale in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament as two Patriot League squads won games in the same year for the first time.

H Also winning NCAA Tournament contests in 2015-16 were American volleyball, Boston University women’s soccer, Holy Cross men’s basketball, Navy baseball and Boston University field hockey, with the 10 postseason victories setting a record for the Patriot League in a single season.

H Twenty-three Patriot Leaguers were named All-Americans, with first-team status for Boston University’s Sofi Laurito (Field Hockey), Fordham’s Chase Edmonds and Stephen Hodge (Football) and Navy’s Jay Stell (Men’s Outdoor Track and Field).

H Six Patriot Leaguers were selected in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Draft, while five were taken in the Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft, including Navy’s Luke Gillingham (37th round).
