I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful fall. I can't

believe October is almost over already. It seems like

just yesterday our board met and planned the year

over dinner and drinks - now we have just a couple

events left! I must thank the board again for a fun

and successful 2017. If you are interested in being a

part of the 2018 Board of Directors we are now

accepting nominations. It truly is a fantastic way to

give back to the profession while expanding your own

network and skillsets. Please email

[email protected] more information.

Board member or not, the perks of your IISE

membership just got even better! Did you hear that

all events are now free to members?! We believe this

is a great way to increase the value proposition of

your IISE membership. Another new membership

perk - IISE just launched a new platform called IISE

Connect. This is a forum for IISE members to directly

connect, collaborate and engage with other active

members. It looks awesome, check it out here:

https://connect.iise.org/home. As always,

membership reduces the expense of attending the

national conference which is in Orlando next May.

Kayla Bosak, IISE Twin Cities President.

Chapter Activity Report

Focus On: Student Outreach

IISE Twin Cities feels that students are a vital part of the growth and activity within the

Industrial Engineering profession and student outreach has always been a priority for

our chapter. A few of the ways we support students have been highlighted in this issue

of the newsletter:

Hosting joint events with collegiate chapters visiting the Twin Cities

Volunteering for the Industrial Engineering portion of the local Girl Scout Patch Day

Youth Outreach

Mentoring and

Workshops

Collegiate IISE

Chapter

Involvement

Professional Chapter

Involvement

Cycle of Student

Outreach

In addition to the mentoring, volunteering and

facilitating activities, IISE Twin Cities also

provides financial support in the form of

scholarships. For many years, we have awarded

scholarships for IISE majors from the colleges or

universities within our IISE North Central Region.

The intent of the IISE Twin Cities scholarship

program is to recognize Industrial Engineering

students who have contributed to the growth

and activity of the IE profession or their Student

IISE Chapter and have promoted Industrial

Engineering within their school or community.

This year we are again offering two $250 student scholarships for

current engineering students. Requirements include completing at

least one year of undergraduate course work, being an active IISE

member and completing our scholarship application. The IISE Twin

Cities Board of Directors reviews all the applications for the best

candidates. The top two students as voted by the board receive

each $250 scholarship.

For an application, questions or comments, contact

[email protected] with “Student Scholarship Application”

in the subject line. We ask that students apply by December 1st,

2017. For more information, please contact the Student Liason

Director, Jeremiah Johnson at [email protected].

. Applications are due by Monday, December 12th, 2016!

IISE Twin Cities will be presenting the Brilliant Bracelet manufacturing line to teach a group of Girl Scouts about being an Industrial

Engineer. It is a lot of fun and is a great way to get girls interested in STEM. You don’t have to be a woman or an industrial engineer to

help, just interested in getting kids excited about process improvement!

We are looking for 6 people to sign up to help with this activity. If you are interested in being a leader/primary presenter for one of the

rooms, please contact Kelly Minchow ([email protected]). Otherwise you can just sign up using this link:

We had a new location for the annual IISE summer get together this year - Bauhaus Brew Labs in

Northeast Minneapolis! Our group enjoyed snacks, played a few games of bean bags, and IISE

Twin Cities provided 2 beverage tickets for anyone who came for this social/networking event, so

keep an eye out for future

events like this! It was a

beautiful summer night at

Bauhaus to relax and network

with other Industrial and

Systems Engineers. We

appreciate seeing some new

faces- some of which were

first year graduates, we hope

to see you all at our future

events!

What is IISE?

IISE is the world’s largest professional society dedicated solely to the support of the industrial engineering

profession and individuals involved with improving quality and productivity. Founded in 1948, IISE is an international, non-profit association that provides leadership for the application, education, training,

research and development of industrial engineering.

With approximately 15,000 members and 280 chapters worldwide, IISE’s primary mission is to meet the ever-changing needs of industrial engineers, which includes

undergraduate and graduate students, engineering practitioners and consultants in all industries,

engineering managers, and engineers in education, research and government.

What is IISE Twin Cities?

The IISE Twin Cities Chapter 38 provides a network for individuals within Minnesota and surrounding areas to

collaborate about industrial engineering. Our members include professionals with industrial engineering degrees, both working in IE and non-IE roles and

professionals working in IE related functions.

We provide monthly events which include topics in professional development, Lean, Six Sigma, Quality,

process improvement and tours at distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, hospitals and consulting firms. We also promote the industrial engineering profession by providing scholarships to IE students and becoming

involved with several student IISE chapters.
