TRENTON MILLERSTUDENT PROFILE

MBA – John Molson School of Business

Why did I choose Concordia? Montreal is a gateway to

culture, ideas and opportunity. Coming from a small town

in my undergrad, I felt like moving to such a multi-cultural

city would open up the world to me. Gaining entry into

Concordia’s highly ranked business school was the icing

on the cake.

While at Concordia, I have been struck by the

entrepreneurial bug. I recently helped launch a

crowdfunding campaign for a startup in District 3 (D3),

and have continued to develop my own business ideas.

Along the way, I have had the pleasure to work with some

fantastic mentors from D3, the Dobson Practicum and

the John Molson MBA program.

LISA NDEJURUSTUDENT PROFILE

PhD Individualized Program – School of Graduate Studies

Why did I choose Concordia? My PhD studies contribute

to the theoretical foundations for generative, arts-based

healing work in the aftermath of large-scale organized

violence. The aim is to help make the world a little

better through the careful application of knowledge and

practice grounded in creative transdisciplinary research.

At Concordia, I am surrounded by people who share

these values.

In my experience, Concordia is a place of possibilities,

where more likely than not the response to some crazy

brainstorm is going to be: ‘Let’s give it a try.’

SIMONE LUCAS & AARON LAKOFF

STUDENT PROFILE

MA Media Studies – Faculty of Arts and Science

Why did I choose Concordia?

AARON: Concordia has always felt like home to me. This is where

I did my undergrad and I love the strong emphasis on feminism

and activist media that I find here. What is really exciting about

our podcast project is how it takes ideas that are quite complex

and makes them accessible beyond the university’s walls.

SIMONE: We tell audio stories that take us on journeys spanning

academic disciplines. Concordia allows me to combine artistic

practice with academic research thanks to its interdisciplinary

approach and emphasis on collaboration. The faculty is also

innovative and encourages experimentation.

JULIE BROUSSEAUSTUDENT PROFILE

MA Film Studies – Faculty of Fine Arts

Why did I choose Concordia? I did my BFA in Film Studies

at Concordia and loved the experience so much that I

decided to carry on to my Masters. Both the Faculty of

Fine Arts and the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema

offer occasions to gather hands-on experience and

develop a deeper understanding of the field.

While the MA program offers me an opportunity to

pursue my research interests—such as Japanese genre

and animation films, as well as contemporary Indigenous

cinema—it also encourages me to explore topics I am

less familiar with. Not to mention that Montreal is a

world-class arts centre that has one of the biggest film

industries in Canada.

AMIR HOOSHIAR STUDENT PROFILE

PhD Mechanical Engineering –

Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science

Why did I choose Concordia? I familiarized myself

with Concordia after reading about the research

being done in its Tactile Sensors Laboratory.

Through this, I became very interested in my

supervisor’s research and moved to Montreal

from Iran to attend Concordia.

Virtually every day, I am witness to innovations being

led by Concordians in fields such as cancer treatment,

robotic surgery, linguistics, the arts, and many more.

Graduate students also have unprecedented access to

a variety of tools to conduct their research thanks to

the multitude of collaborations Concordia fosters with

other universities in Montreal.
