FF110-049 S.O.P.’s 21st Century Vehicle Extrication

(Strength, Obstacles, Power) Length 4 Hours

Description

The most common issue in dealing with advanced vehicle technology in extrication is trying to clarify misinformation that may be circulating around the emergency services communities. With this 4 hour presentation, TFACA dives deep into Modern age vehicles and thoroughly explains the importance of thinking outside the box! Responders must understand that some safety equipment intended to protect the driver and passengers actually creates further hazards and extrication issues for the rescuer. Departments and responders must adapt and change with advancing vehicle technology. Rescuers involved in vehicle extrication practices and procedures have an inherent responsibility to improve their skills and remain on the cutting edge of technology; self-motivation with continual training and education will provide the means to stay focused, while always looking for ways to improve. This program will cover a variety of topics including high-voltage batteries, advanced air bag protection systems, and a multitude of different metals and steels.

Truck Company Operations Under Fire and Understaffed

Length 8 Hours

Description

Firefighters are continually being asked to wear more hats and provide more services with fewer personnel. This class will focus on hands-on, two-person truck company skills, with students performing tasks under fire with limited visibility while maintaining safety and situational awareness. The target audience will be firefighters who desire to learn basic truck company operations techniques and then have them tested under realistic conditions. Firefighters from the same department should be encouraged to enroll in this class to build teamwork they can take back to their department and to the streets. We deliver this class with the mindset that not all fire departments have dedicated ladder trucks. For many departments, the third or fourth engine arriving on the scene will need to perform truck company operations on the fire grounds as those tasks are still required regardless of a department’s apparatus line up. The Middle Tennessee F.O.O.L.S. have a one-of-a-kind shared resource: a large, 18-foot, full scale, mobile Truck Company Operations training prop. This prop will facilitate simultaneous evolutions that include

Forcible Entry*-- inward and outward swinging doors for both left hand and right hand attack.
