Hello Families and Friends,
We are fast approaching the end of term and everyone is busy getting
ready to share their term 3 learning journey next Thursday at Learning
Expo. We hope you will be able to join us on the day with a 2.00pm
start in the Hub with Creative Arts home group demonstrations followed
by sharing of learning in classes, a shared afternoon tea (please bring
something to share) and finishing with the Instrumental music and Glee
club student demonstrations. We aim to finish by about 4.30pm.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our whole team for
keeping everything running smoothly while I took a couple of weeks
leave earlier in the term. Special thanks to Chantal who took on the
Acting Principal role for the two weeks and did a great job taking on
that responsibility.
Attendance
As always we have a strong focus on improving attendance. Our current attendance rate is around 89% with our target to be over 90%. While we appreciate there are many occasions that coming to school is not possible or challenging, if there is anything we can do to support improved attendance please speak with your class teacher or make a time to see Chantal or myself. It is important that we work as a team to ensure the best outcomes socially, emotionally and academically for your child.
2020 Enrolments
We are now planning for 2020 and with a steady flow of enrolment enquiries our places are filling quickly. If you have not returned your pink form regarding your enrolment intentions for 2020 please do so now. It is important that we are made aware if you are intending to enrol elsewhere as this can affect our enrolment offers to new families and can significantly affect our staffing allocations and decisions.
We look forward to seeing everyone over the next week at all of our
end of term opportunities and wish you all a safe and fun holidays.
Please note the first day of term 4 is Monday 14th October.
Cheers Skye

SAPSASA Volley Ball
We had two teams in the
SAPSASA volleyball tournament
held in week 6 at MARS com-
plex in Marden. Everyone that
took part competed against
other schools in our zone. De-
spite a few close games we
couldn’t advance to the next
round. Well done to everyone
that participated and gave up
their lunch play to practice for
the tournament. Thank you to
Amy and Laura for helping me
on the day.

Governing Council Updates
This year the Governing Council have been working on Focus Area 3
of our Strategic Plan: COMMUNITY – A strong, cohesive, supportive
and inclusive community.
We started up our informal parent group, Lucky Folk, to facilitate or-
ganizing Communi-Tea mornings and other social gatherings. You can
join the Lucky Folk (search “Lucky Folk”) group on Facebook to stay in
touch with the school community.
Our Community Contact List (updated twice a year) helps connect
families outside of school hours and an updated list was sent out to all
families in Week 4 of Term 3.
Our annual Quiz Night was held on the 14th of September at Dulwich/
Rose Park United Parish Hall. It was a really fun evening of games, puz-
zles and trivia and we raised $430 for musical instruments.
After a review of previous committee structures, the Governing Coun-
cil has decided to formally dissolve the Community Projects Commit-
tee. Instead, a more direct approach to activating ideas from the
community is in place. A Community Projects proposal form is availa-
ble from the front office or via the school’s website and everyone is
encouraged to use this form to communicate ideas or projects to
happen in and around the school. We can’t wait to hear your ideas!

Big Night In
On the 12th of September, Felixstow held a
‘big night in’ for the year 2-4 students as a
part of the year 2 transition to primary in
2020. The night started with a range of
STEM challenges that required students to
collaborate and problem solve. The stu-
dents then enjoyed a shared dinner while
watching a movie.

This term’s Inquiry has been based on the Central Idea
of ‘The future depends on the resources we choose’.
We have been looking at the properties of materials
and learning how to describe them using adjectives.
The children then designed a monster, chose their mak-
ing materials and justified why those materials were an
appropriate choice. We then spent several lessons
making our monster, learning new making techniques.
The second part of our Inquiry has been conducting
mixing experiments. We have made volcanoes, cap-
tured carbon dioxide and mixed oil, water and deter-
gent. The children have been learning the steps in the
scientific method – to observe, question, hypothesize,
test and record results and share our findings. Next term
we will move onto the waste cycle and how our choic-
es could affect the future.

Quick Writes In the Primary class, we have been using ‘quick writes’ as a warm up for writing. Just like
your body needs to stretch before physical activity your brain needs to warm up before
beginning writing. Laura and Nicole set us the challenge to include the most descriptive
wow words, adjectives and technical language to paint a picture of an image. We think
we did a fantastic job!
