Scripture Lesson(Please Stand for the Reading of God’s Word)

Old TestamentUnison: Psalm 127:3-5 (The Message Bible) — Taking Care of Children Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift, the fruit of the womb his generous legacy?Like a warrior’s fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth. Oh, how blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children! Your enemies don’t stand a chance against you; you’ll sweep them right off your doorstep.

New Testament

Unison: Mark 10:13-16 (The Message Bible) – Taking Care of ChildrenThe people brought children to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus was irate and let them know it: “Don’t push these children away. Don’t ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom. Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.” Then, gathering the children up in his arms, he laid his hands of blessing on them.

The Summary of the Decalogue

LEADER: From all that dwell below the skies…SUNG: From all that dwell below the skies, Let the Creator’s praise arise; Let the Redeemer’s Name be sung, through every land, by every tongue.LEADER: Hear what Christ our Savior saith, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.SUNG: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Pastor’s Words

The Offertory (Tithes ~ Gifts ~ Benevolent Offerings)

The First A.M.E. Church Pasadena has entered a new era: the age of anytime, anywhere giving. We are now signed up with Givelify, the mobile giving app for churches. To make your first mobile donation the best experience possible, we recommend you download the Givelify app for Apple or Android before you get to church on Sunday. Givelify gives you a beautiful, easy giving experience using your smartphone.

There are no frustrating web forms or text-to-give codes to memorize. Even better, it’s free to download and use. It’s totally safe and secure, and for tax time you have one-tap access to your complete donation records.

Make your offerings, tithes, and gifts to special envelopes right from the palm of your hand. You can give to First A.M.E. Church Pasadena wherever you are.

The free Givelify donation app makes giving and tracking donations easier and more beautiful. However, it’s NOT for everyone. You may choose to continue your conventional giving, checks, cash, money order. The choice is still yours!

Celebration of Giving Litany

MINISTER: It is now time for us to share in giving. Why do we give?

CONGREGATION: We give because all we have comes from God. According to

Deuteronomy 8:18, it is God who gives us the power to get wealth.

MINISTER: Why do we give?

CONGREGATION: We give because God commands us. Malachi 3:10 states that we

are to bring the full tithe into God’s storehouse.

MINISTER: Why do we give?

CONGREGATION: We give because God said in Luke 6:38, to give and He would give

back to us a more abundant blessing.

MINISTER: Why do we give?

CONGREGATION: We give because 2 Corinthians 9:7 states that God loves a cheerful

giver.

MINISTER: Our tithe symbolizes all of the ways that we have been blessed by God:

spiritually, physically, mentally, and financially and with gifts and talents.

ALL: Thank you Lord, for the privilege of giving. We are excited about

paying the tithe and giving the offering. We know that you are

faithful to your promises. Therefore, we trust you in faith to do

what you have said. AMEN!

Choral Response: “All things come of Thee, O Lord; and of Thine own have we given Thee. Amen.”

Scripture of the Day

Children. “Beware that you don’t look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my heavenly Father.” Matthew 18:10

Quote of the Day“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”  — Frederick Douglass

Thought of the WeekBy Faith: Bless Your Children. “By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future …” Hebrews 11:20. Children are a blessing to their parents. They are an awesome gift from God. Children also need blessing from their parents—and they need God’s blessing above all. God intended that faithful parents would be one of the main conduits of his blessing. In Bible times it was common for fathers to pronounce God’s blessing on their children. That was an act of faith. In our abortion-riddled society the first blessing parents pass along to their children is God’s gift of life. For Christians, bringing children into our troubled world is an act of faith.Neither toys, money, words of encouragement, praise, love, nor even the parents’ gifts of time and presence are the highest blessings parents can give their children. The best blessing is for parents to help engrave on the hearts and minds of their children that they belong to God.Remind your children of God’s blessings promised to them in their baptism. In baptism they were adopted into the great royal family of God. They are heirs of God’s kingdom. With this sense of identity, they are blessed with answers to our deepest human questions: Who am I? Why am I? What is my life all about?Parents, grandparents—bless your children!

Humor of the WeekA young man moved away from his parents to become a student. Proudly showing off his new apartment to a couple of his friends late one night, he led the way to his bedroom where there was a big brass gong.

"What's that big brass gong?" one of the guests asked.

"It's not a gong. It's a talking clock," the man replied.

"A talking clock? Seriously? Asked his astonished friend.

"Yup," replied the student.

"How does it work?" the 2nd guest asked, squinting at it.

"Watch," the student replied. He picked up a hammer, gave it an ear-shattering pound and stepped back.

The three stood looking at one another for a moment. Suddenly, someone on the other side of the wall screamed: "You idiot, it's ten past three in the morning!"
