The Hall of Fame was established in 1994 to recognize outstanding achievement by William Jewell alumni and/or faculty in the areas of athletic achievement or coaching, or other noteworthy accomplishments in athletic- related areas. The selection is based solely on what the individual accomplished while associated with William Jewell.

The guiding force behind the formation of the Hall of Fame was Rodger LaBeth (1968 William Jewell Graduate) who at the time was the Assistant Dean of Physical Education, Athletics and Facilities. The selection process is by committee with input by all constituents of the William Jewell community.

A 10-year waiting period is required for alumni selection. The award may be presented posthumously to either alumni or faculty. The selection should be made on the overall career of any individual; however, it may, on occasion, be based on a single accomplishment.

C h arlo tte (B eck) F a ir fa x (1 9 9 6 -2 0 0 0 )Charlotte had an outstanding four year career for the Lady Cardinals Basketball Team. She was the Heart of America Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year (1996-97) and a 1st Team All-Conference selection all four years. She was also named HAAC Player of the Week three times in her career. She finished her career as the 3Id leading scorer in school history with 1831 points (currently #5 on the list) and was 1st in rebounding in school history when she graduated (currently #3 on the list). Charlotte was Jewell’s first ever All- American in women’s basketball. She was twice named a 3rd Team NAIA II All-American (1998-99 and 1999-2000).

F ern a n d ars ‘Scoop ’ G illesp ie (1 9 8 0 -8 4 )This St. Louis native was a four year letter winner who is remembered as a fierce blocker and punishing runner for the football Cardinals. Scoop was a two-time All-Conference (Heart of America Athletic Conference) selection (2nd Team) and a two-time 2nd Team All-District selection (NAIA II District 16). He is one of Jewell’s career rushing leaders and played on Jewell teams which compiled a four year record of 41-6-2 including three HAAC titles. He was a member of Jewell’s 1982 squad which finished 2nd in the nation! Scoop followed his career with the Cardinals by playing in the NFL with the Pittsburg Steelers in 1984!

Steve H u dso n (1 9 7 9 -1 9 8 3 )This 1983 WJC graduate was a 3-year letter winner in football and played baseball for the Cardinals for one season. While he had an outstanding career, the 1982 season was very special for Steve. He was named 1st Team All-Conference (Heart of America Athletic Conference), 1st Team All-District (NAIA II) and a 1st Team NAIA II All-American Place Kicker. He was also named an NAIA II Academic All-American. Steve led the national (both NAIA Division I and II) in individual kick scoring with an average of 7.1 points per game. He was a member of the 1982 squad which finished 2nd in the nation and during his career the Cardinals were 41-6-1 with four HAAC Championships!

C had.Jones (1 9 9 3 -1 9 9 7 )Chad had an outstanding career for the basketball Cardinals. He was a four year letter winner, was named Honorable Mention All- Conference as a sophomore and 1st team All-Conference as a junior and senior. He was also named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Player of the Year as a senior. He set Jewell’s single season scoring record with 885 points as a senior when he was named an NAIA II 1st Team All-American (he was also named NAIA II National Player of the Week during the season). Chad played on three Final Four teams for the Cardinals (1995, 1996 and 1997) and during his four year career the Cardinals compiled a record of 113-39 with one HAAC Co-Championship and three 2nd place finishes. Chad also lettered in baseball and track & field for the Cardinals. Following graduation, he played one season for the Perry Lakes Hawks Professional Basketball Team (Perth, Australia) in 1998 where he led the league in scoring.

1982 F o o tb a ll TeamThis squad advanced further in the post season (NAIA II) than any Cardinal Football Team in history, 2nd in the nation! They reached the NAIA II National Championship game with post season wins over Sul Ross State (TX) (in triple overtime) and #1 ranked Northwestern, IA before losing at Linfield, OR in the National Championship game. The Cardinals were Champions of the Heart of America Athletic Conference (7-1) and finished 10-2 overall. They opened the season as the #2 ranked team in the nation and were ranked #1 in the nation for four weeks in a row! Head Coach Vic Wallace coached eight players who were named to the NAIA II All-American squad (three 1st teamers, one 2nd team selection and four honorable mention selections). Six Cardinals were named to the Academic All-American squad. It was indeed a special Cardinal Football Team!
