not have any influence on scores.

Note: Snohomish High School & the Cheerleading Coach reserve the right to keep judge’s sheets & scoring of tryouts confidential. Being a member of the SHS Cheer Squad one year in no way guarantees someone’s placement on the squad

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Your child has expressed an interest in becoming a member of the varsity cheer squad at SHS for the 2020-2021

school year. If selected, there are certain personal and financial responsibilities and obligations that your child must

assume in order to qualify and remain a member in good standing. It is important that you understand the demands

and responsibilities that go along with cheerleading.

A cheerleader must be able to attend meetings, camp, practices, fundraisers, community service activities,

and games. If a cheerleader plans to hold a job, be part of a competitive cheer team, a sport, or hold a

position in another club, it is imperative that there are minimal, if any, conflicts with the cheerleading

calendar. A calendar will be provided to assist in scheduling. Cheerleaders are responsible for their own

transportation to after school and summer practices, as well as to home games. Cheer camp is a vital part of

our training during the summer; therefore, camp is mandatory for all cheerleaders.

Cheerleaders and their family must pay a portion of the expense for uniforms, transportation, summer camp and

supplies. This year due to COVID19 situations we are working to make our costs lower, however we do not know

what this figure will be as I am still researching uniform companies. My hope is that it won’t be more than $950 for

any member. I am working hard to make sure the team still have incredible essentials needed to cheer but putting

cost first more than ever before. The goal is that we will be able to fundraise again this year which is how many of

our 2019-2020 cheerleaders paid for their uniforms.

It is an honor and a privilege to be a Snohomish Cheerleader. Cheerleaders will be expected to make sacrifices. Good

leadership, sportsmanship, academics, and cheer skills all go hand-in-hand. Furthermore, a cheerleader is expected to

be a positive, responsible young person who displays appropriate behavior at all times, while managing time

appropriately so that academic standards are met.

Family involvement is important to the SHS Cheerleading program. Cooperation among coaches, athletes, parents,

and school personnel is essential. Like coaches and athletes, parents must make commitments to the program to

assure such cooperation. We ask that families:

• Assure that their child attends the scheduled practices, performances, and events.

• Require their child to abide by all rules and regulations of the Snohomish School District, Snohomish High

School, WIAA, and the SHS Cheer program.

• Acknowledge the ultimate authority of the coach to determine squad organization and activities. Support the

decisions and actions, recognizing that the coach is a trained professional.

• Help support their child’s financial obligation by participating in fundraising and booster club activities.

• Promote mature behavior from students and parents during athletic contests in accordance with the WIAA.

Enclosed is the paperwork required for trying out. Please read through each document carefully, signatures

of both parent and student are required. All forms must be completed on time in order to tryout. The cheer

packet must be TURNED IN via email to Coach Kendra Peterson on Friday May 8th at 2:00 pm. There will

be no exceptions made.

I look forward to working with all of the kids and their families, returning and new!

Sincerely,

Kendra Peterson

Parent Acknowledgement and Permission Form

My child, ____________________________________ has my permission to try out for the position of cheerleader at Snohomish High School. If selected as a member of the 2020-2021 cheerleading squad:

I understand that she/he must abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the coach, the administration of Snohomish High School and be present for mandatory practices, meetings, fundraisers, camps, games and performances. I have read the rules and regulations and understand that the violation of any of these rules may lead to temporary or permanent suspension from the squad. I understand that all forms attached, must be completed and turned in by 2:00 pm on Friday May 8th or my child will not be allowed to tryout. Tryout packets to be completed and emailed to Coach Kendra Peterson at [email protected].

I understand that my child will be evaluated by qualified judges including the current cheer coach. We agree to abide by the decision of the judges and cheer coach and respect that their decision is final. I understand that tryout scoring sheets are confidential and will not be available to candidates or families during or after tryouts for any reason.

I understand there are costs involved while participating in this program. I will help my child by participating in fundraising and will keep our account in good standing. I understand that any outstanding debt will be assessed as a school fine.

I understand by the very nature of the activity, cheerleading (including stunting and tumbling) carry a significant risk of physical injury. No matter how careful the participant and coach are, how many spotters are used, or what landing surface is used, the risk cannot be eliminated. The risk of injury includes minor injuries such as muscle pulls or ligament tears, joint dislocation, and broken bones. The risk also includes catastrophic injuries such as permanent paralysis or even death from landing or falls on the back, neck, or head. I understand these risks and will not hold Snohomish High School, Snohomish School District, Kendra Peterson, or any of its personnel responsible in the case of accident or injury at any time. I understand that the coaching staff has the proper training and certification to teach stunting skills and will to the best of their ability create a safe practice/performance environment.

I have read and understand all rules and guidelines for the Snohomish High School Cheer Squad. I agree to adhere to these conditions.

Cheerleaders are expected to give 100% commitment and dedication to their coaches, squad, and school at ALL times. The coach reserves the right to revoke any, or all, cheerleading privileges if deemed appropriate by the coach and/or an administrator.

Just as in athletics or clubs, the advisor/coach has the right to determine whether or not a member cheers or participates in cheer activities. Participation in cheer is a privilege.

Cheerleaders should be representatives of their school while at school and in the community. They should set an example by being a good student (academically and behaviorally), and by being a positive leader at school and in the community. Understand that mistakes could reflect negatively on the squad, the coach, Snohomish High School, and the Snohomish community as a whole.

Financial Changes

ASB Fundraisers: We will be conducting ASB fundraising events to help offset the following costs, but each student/family will be responsible for all costs associated with being a SHS cheerleader.

• Letter Writing Donations• Kla Ha Ya Days Cheer Clinic (Hopefully -Depending on COVID19)• Fall Cheer Clinic• Football/Basketball Concessions• Yankee Candle

Cheerleading Costs: Estimated price includes uniform, uniform accessories, practice/camp clothing, and camp fees.

• Cheerleader: $600-$950

Deposits: We will be using a deposit system throughout the year in order to help pay off our loan from ASB (Subject to change)

• June 10th -$150• July 16th - $150• Sep 15th - $150• Nov 18th - $150• Jan 14th - $150• March 12th - Remainder of total bill

*If you cannot financially afford this please let Coach Kendra know ASAP after you make the team so she can set up adifferent payment plan with you.*As well depending on how much is raised through ASB fundraisers certain deposits may be removed or refunds throughthe school may be possible.

Booster Club / Booster Fundraisers: Booster Club will still continue to run with parent support. Their goals are to raise money to help with activities to support the entire team and coach. Such as Team Functions, Cross Over, Senior Night, Holiday Events, Banquet, and Equipment kept by team.

ASB Support: Just a little background information. We are very lucky to have such a supportive ASB here at SHS. They help our program by giving us a “loan” to help pay for uniforms and they grant us a large donation to help with our camp cost. They even support us multiple times throughout the year with transportation to major events. This is something not all schools have. Many schools have to pay the entire cost right away at the beginning of the season.
