As 2008 draws to a close and the celebratory season nears, here at ABC TV we’ve saved some of our best for last, and I am delighted to be able to present to you our Festival of TV, screening on ABC1, ABC2 and ABC iView.
A hand-picked selection of new and acclaimed programs from Australia and beyond, I hope it will both entertain and stimulate you over the summer months.
ABC’s schedule is always diverse, and this festival is no exception. From the political intrigue and treachery uncovered in The Howard Years, to the pure entertainment of Adam Hills captured live during one of his comedy shows on the road, our Festival of TV has it all. The legacy of Arthur Stace brought to life in the new opera The Eternity Man, while leading lady Cate Blanchett graces the screen in the feature fi lm premiere of Little Fish.
We’ve also crafted a special season of the crème of our award-winning Australian dramas and documentaries including; the Constructing Australia series, Bastard Boys, The Sounds of Aus, Crude, The Floating Brothel and Rain Shadow.
On ABC2, relive the classic Brideshead Revisited series, indulge in a musical feast with the World Music Awards and enjoy the premiere of Zoo Day and Coach Trip.
Kids are not forgotten, with their own mini-festival of programs for the young, and young at heart – the 25th Schools Spectacular showcases over 3,000 young performers; arguably the world’s most beloved odd couple – Wallace and Gromit are back with their latest adventure A Matter of Loaf and Death, and join the adventure challenge that is, Scorpion Island.
In closing, I’d like to pay tribute to the wonderful actors, producers, writers, directors, fi lmmakers, comedians, researchers, and other content creators with whom we have worked over the past few years. Their body of work, which you see represented here in our Festival of TV, shows how vibrant and exciting the Australian creative community is and ABC TV is delighted to be the leading partner for bringing their stories and voices to the screen.
I wish you a happy festival season and hope you enjoy our program.
