SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 21, 2017

FROM THE PASTOR

My Dear Parishioners,

Praised be Jesus Christ! Happy Sunday! This weekend we welcome back to our parish the Little

Sisters of the Poor. The Little Sisters are tremendous witnesses to the simple love of Jesus

Christ and the power of that love which makes a difference. The Little Sisters have local homes

in Newark, DE and Philadelphia, PA where they care for the elderly poor. May God bless and

prosper the Little Sisters and may their witness inspire us to serve Jesus generously with simple and total hearts.

At this time of year, we welcome too all our college young people who have made it home for the summer months.

I’ve noticed their presence over the past two weeks and it’s good to have them back in the pews. Their presence

with us is warmly welcomed. One of the college campuses where St. Patrick’s is represented is Catholic Universi-

ty of America in Washington, DE. Sitting in the Brookland section of Washington DC, CUA is home to the largest

Catholic Church in North America, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. In recent

years, the basilica has undergone extensive renovations and improvements, the last of which is now underway.

Namely, the creation of the Trinity Dome. It is a site to see, believe me. This month, the Bishops of the United

States are inviting all parishes across the country to contribute to this marvelous project and individual parishioners

may want to do the same. This is a neat opportunity to give a dollar or two or even more to such an historic and

lasting part of American Church History. It might be worth considering. Collection envelopes are available in the

back of Church and they can be dropped in the collection basket here at St. Patrick’s. The parish will send a check

to the Shrine in mid-June with the offering. More information is available on the Basilica’s Website.

While on the theme of collections, we are still collecting nominations for our 2017-18 Pastoral Council. Please

consider nominating yourself or another parishioner for this service. Finally, the most important collection of all,

the collection of ourselves. This week, please do everything you can to join us for our Forty Hours Devotion.

We welcome to the parish Fr. Mike Fitzpatrick. He is a fine priest and excellent preacher. Church will be open all

day Sunday thru Tuesday and we will have Evening Prayer each evening at 7PM at which Father will offer a re-

flection. The service each evening will take 45 minutes.

It is no news to any of us that we live in scattered times and it affects us deeply, it’s affecting our families and

homes. What may be news to us is that Jesus Christ is in the business of gathering His People. He does so not just

at 45 minute Sunday Masses. He does so all the time, in and through the Eucharist. In the Eucharist, and specifi-

cally in prayer before the Eucharist, God collects, gathers, heals and strengthens His People-you and me! I dare

each and every one of you, to attend at least one night of our Forty Hours and to spend 15 minutes before Jesus in

Silent Prayer before the Eucharist. Then, report back to me what happens...if in any way you are not blessed, talk

to me. The Eucharist is that powerful, God is that Good! Receive His Goodness.

Peace,

Fr. Rogers

Come and spend time with the Lord. Plan to join us on

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday as we gather together

before Jesus to pray, to worship and to invoke His

blessings on us. Fr. Mike Fitzpatrick will lead us in

prayer and preaching each evening and our Church will

be open through the day for Adoration.
