LITTLE BOOKS DEVOTIONALS We are very happy to again offer you the Little Books, a set of daily devotional booklets for Advent, Lent and Easter. Cost will again be $5 per set of three seasons. Particularly for those who are not yet able to join us in person this is an excellent resource to help guide your daily prayer life. If you would like to order a set(s) please call or email the parish office by Sept. 24. $5 cost will be collected when the Advent Little Books arrive.

St. Francis of Assisi Parish, in partnership with St. Mary Parish, will be offering an RCIA program beginning this September for any adults who wish to become Catholic. Meetings will be each Sunday at 1pm, starting on Sept. 26th. Some meetings will be held in person at both St. Mary’s and St. Francis, but, until COVID improves, many meetings will be held virtually. If you or someone you know is exploring becoming Catholic please contact our parish office to speak with Fr. Raphael, 519-745-7301. We would love to join you on your faith journey, as we all seek to respond to God’s call.

Hike & Bike for Hospice Waterloo Region runs until Sept. 19. Participants walk 5km or bike 10km to support Hospice Waterloo Region’s excellent care for our community during end of life. You can donate to our own Ruthann, Cathy or Aida, or to the charity in general by clicking here.

ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL HOPE AND HYGIENE DRIVE

St. Mary’s General Hospital is collecting hygiene products for in patients and out patients in need. This project is supported by the SMGH Mental Health Action Team (MHAT), Spiritual Care Team and parishes like St. Francis, and is happening in tandem with their pilot project to support at-risk delirium patients, the emergency department and the SMGH Sexual Assault Team. They need: • Tooth paste, brushes & floss • Body wash • Body lotion • Shaving cream • Conditioner • Wash cloths, towels • Shampoo • Deodorant • Menstrual hygiene products • Band aids • Hair brushes and combs • Soap • Sunscreen • Hearing aid batteries • Diapers • Baby wipes You can drop off any packaged, unopened items in the blue bin in the foyer of the church beside the St. Francis statue. Please contact Leslie Waitson SMGH Staff Trainer at 519-749 -6426 + ext.5588 with any questions. Thank you for helping support the most vulnerable in our community.

Mark your calendars! We will conclude our 60th Anniversary celebrations with a special Mass on Sunday October 3 with Bishop Crosby, after which he will bless our new statue of St. Francis in Exultation. More information will be available soon.

COPING with COVID RESILIENCE - Positivity

“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.” Helen Keller

Another way to Build your Resilience is through Positivity. Some of us are naturally positive people, and some tend to be more negative, and while we cannot change who we are we can recognize which category we fall under and we can learn to be more Positive. When faced with a negative situation, like the pandemic, we can look for ways to learn from it, to expand our experience by trying something new. We can be grateful for what we still have. We can forgive others when they hurt us, for they are likely stressed and hurt themselves. We can SMILE! It is amazing how forcing yourself to smile can actually affect your mood, and help you be Positive. So

next time you feel overwhelmed by negativity, stop, take a breath, and smile; you might even start laughing.

Thank you to Teresa Hartnett for sharing many of these ideas with us! NOTE: If you are concerned for your own or a loved one’s immediate safety please consult with your doctor, counsellor, therapist, CAMH, Telehealth or call 911.

A PRAYER FOR THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

"God of wisdom and might, we praise you for the wonders of

our being, for mind, body, and spirit.

Be with our children as they begin a new school year.

Bless them and their teachers and staff. Give them strength and grace as their bodies grow;

wisdom and knowledge to their minds as they search for understanding; and peace and zeal to their spirits.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

~ Hamilton Diocese Back to School 2021 Liturgy

Congratulations to Terrianne Moulton, our Music Minister, on being appointed to represent the Kitchener-Waterloo Deanery on the Diocese’ new Liturgical Music Commission! COVID – 19 SEPTEMBER UPDATE

However we echo Pope Francis in encouraging everyone who is able to get vaccinated. Please visit the COVID-19 page on our website for all the current COVID protocols.

Also, a reminder we have returned to the normal practice of receiving the Eucharist where the priest says “The Body of Christ” to each of us individually, and we reply “Amen”. Thank you.
