PASTORS PONDERINGS PENSAMIENTOS DE NUESTRO PARROCO Dear Parishioners, After preparing for this day throughout the Season of Lent and then commemorating Holy Week, we come to this day, in which we remember the foundational event of our Faith, the Resurrection of the Lord. In Jesus’ Resurrection we are shown that even Death need not be The End of our story, that in God, truly all things are possible and that God wants to assure us that the final word on our lives does not belong to any power here on earth, that the final word on our lives be-longs to God. In the Resurrection is Freedom. We don’t have be con-strained by anything of this world except simply the Will of God. And what is the Will of God? That we learn to love one another, treat one other as brothers and sisters, and to be … happy. We’re told in the opening chapters of Genesis that God created this wonderful world for US, that he was imme-diately concerned about the happiness of his first creation Adam, that he created the entire universe so that Adam could be happy and that finally Adam was completely happy when God created Eve. Yes, our first parents fell, yes, sin entered into the world through them. Yet, God did not abandon us, and continues to wish us to be happy. And in Jesus’ Resur-rection we’re assured that no matter how cruel this still often very much Fallen World may be, that God still wants us to be happy, if not here, then at least with him in Heaven. In our time, can we believe this? I hope so. The alternative is ceding our lives to the Powers big and small of this world (from Dictators to gossips) and in the end a hundred years from now, almost none of us will be remembered here any-way (and those who will – people like Hitler or Al Capone – will probably wish that they weren’t… Faith in God, in con-trast, offers hope. And each year, on this Day in which we remember Jesus’s Resurrection, we’re reminded of it in a special way. In the end, I can not but choose … Hope. Happy Easter to all! Fr. Dennis

P. Dennis

The Little Ones Living God’s Word

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

PROCLAIM THE RISEN CHRIST

Easter Sunday Of The Resurrection Of The Lord

The Paschal Mystery is the key to our Christian faith: the dy-ing and rising of Jesus that is the pattern of our life. In their first steps on the road of faith, the catechumens feel the cross of glory traced over their eyes, on their lips, across their shoulders, on their ears, over their heart, and on their feet. The mystery is that even death gives way to life for those who are held in the em-brace of Jesus. Today, many new Christians arise from the waters of the font. Yet the font is not the destination of their journey. The goal is Pentecost, fifty days from now, and a lifetime of praise to the Father, in Christ, in the embrace of the Holy Spirit, for the sake of the world. “Neophyte,” our ancient word for new-ly-baptized people, means “newly-planted” in Greek. If someone in your parish has just been baptized, welcome them today. The smiles on their faces and the light in the eyes is a foretaste of heaven. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

On Easter morning everything—the spring weather, the flowers, birds and butterflies, the people around us in their finery, the beautiful liturgy and music—everything seems to bear witness that Jesus Christ is risen today! Like the eyewitness accounts in today’s scriptures, the glorious and joyful life all around us helps us to believe the good news of the Res-urrection and sing “Alleluia!” In the scriptures today we hear from Peter and Paul and John. All three speak with conviction about witnessing the resurrected Christ. John’s Gospel account includes Mary of Magdala, who also was privileged to witness the Resurrection and tell others the good news. On this glorious Easter Sunday can we ourselves give eyewitness accounts that Jesus Christ is risen today, alive and active in our lives? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

First Reading — Peter is an eyewitness: The Lord is risen. — (Acts 10:34a, 37-43). Psalm — This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad. — (Psalm 118). Gospel — Three witnesses, Mary, Peter, and John; each responds to the empty tomb. — (John 20:1-9) or Mark 16:1-7 (or, at an afternoon or evening Mass, Luke 24:13-35).

THE RETURN OF EASTER The return of Easter should be to the Chris-tian life the call of a trumpet. It is the news of a great victory. It is the solution of a great per-plexity. It is the assurance of a great triumph. — Frederick Temple

PROCLAMA AL CRISTO RESUCITADO

Domingo De Pascua: La Resurreccion Del Señor

2018 SUMMER FESTIVAL

When EVERYONE will have to do their part. The Bible tells us to Tithe (give 10% or 4 hours of our weekly income to God). Realizing that this would be hard for most Cath-olics, the Catholic Church asks us to give 5% or 2 hours of our weekly income to the Church. Can you give 2 hours of your weekly income to support the Church? If not, can you give at least 1 hour of your weekly income whatever it may be (2.5% or ¼ of the Biblical Tithe)? For years, everybody considered St. Philip’s finances to be hope-less. But they are not, not even in the long term. But every fami-ly needs to do its part. If every family contributed 1 hour of its weekly income, again whatever it would be, to the Parish, we would have no problems at all, ever, balancing our finances. Instead, we have 50 families (out of 1600) covering 40% of our collection while over 50% our families give less than $5/week. This is neither particu-larly just, nor honestly, sustainable. So let us ALL step up, do our part and be able to hold our heads high as we contin-ue our Journey as a Parish toward our Destiny that awaits us in Heaven.
