Background

• 2005 – State Identifiers (SSID) were assigned for all PK-12 students

• 2006 – Kansas Individual Data on Students (KIDS) student level data collection system was implemented– Assign and track SSIDs as students enter

and move throughout the state– Collect and manage core student data

(Master Data source for student demographics)

Background

• 2007 – Kansas funded KSDE’s initial development of the Enterprise Data System (EDS)– included establishing a Data Warehouse

with longitudinal, integrated, and time variant data across the PK-12 education enterprise

• Through federal grants, KSDE has now expanded the EDS – incorporates postsecondary data – BI reporting solution to provide information

back to education stakeholders: System for Education Enterprise in Kansas (SEEK)

SEEK• Business Intelligence (BI) solution for

KSDE’s Enterprise Data System– Delivers district and building level data

through an authenticated interface– Provides graphical representation of KPIs

across time– Allows filtering for customized view

• Technology infrastructure– Windows Server 2008 R2– SQL Server 2008 R2 DBMS– MS Visual Studio 2008 – SharePoint 2010

High School Feedback Reports

• Built as a “by-product” of SFSF metrics C(11) and C(12)

• Sourced from our PK-20 Data Mart• Initial design/content based on

– research of what other states are doing– available data

• Provided by KSDE and accessed via existing authenticated BI solution– Not an annual published report– Dynamically generated customizable view

based on parameter selection
