CLASS 103RU11 Thermally Delayed Overload Relays

4/12 Siemens NS K · 2000

Description

Specifications

IEC 60 947-4-1, IEC 60 947-5-1 and DIN VDE 0660.

The 3RU11 overload relays are suitable for use in any climate.

The devices are shock-hazard-protected acc. to DIN VDE 0106 Part 100.

General

3RU11 overload relays belong to the new generation of SIRIUS 3R switching devices. They are available in four different sizes with up to 100 A.

The 3RU11 overload relays re-place the highly successful 3UA5 and 3UA7 devices. Out-standing features of the new re-lays include long-term stability and a long service life. The over-load relays are optimally matched, both electrically and mechanically, to the 3RT10 con-tactors and 3RW3 soft starter. They can, however, also be mounted separately with an adapter for installation as a sin-gle unit. Devices up to and in-cluding size S0 can be fitted on standard mounting rails without using tools.

3RU11 overload relays cannot be mounted on 3TF contactors.

Environment

The devices are manufactured using environmentally-compati-ble and recyclable materials only.

Application

3RU11 thermal overload relays provide overload protection for three-phase induction motors with rated currents of up to 100 A (45 kW, AC-3, 400 V).

Fuses or 3RV13 circuit-breakers for starter combinations (see Part 1) must be fitted for short-circuit protection.

Operation of frequency converters

The thermal overload relays 3RU11 are suitable for opera-tion on frequency converters.

1) See page 6 for notes on Cage Clamp connection.

Ambient conditionsThanks to the new bimetals used and continuous tempera-ture compensation, the devices can be implemented without re-strictions at an ambient temper-ature of up to 60 °C.

Auxiliary contactsThe overload relays are equipped with an NC contact for disconnecting the contactor and an NO contact for signalling tripping. The breaking capacity of the switching contacts is very high so that the contactor coils can be switched directly.

Trip classThe relays are designed in ac-cordance with trip class 10, i. e. they can be used for motor start-up times of up to 10 s.

Phase failure sensitivityA phase failure sensitivity func-tion is integrated in order to pro-vide overload protection in the event of a phase failure, i. e. premature tripping with double-phasing.

Setting theoverload relayThe current setting screw can be accessed once the transpar-ent, sealable cover has been re-moved. The overload relay must be set to the rated motor cur-rent.

STOP funktionActivating this function only af-fects the NC contact.

Manual/automatic resetManual or automatic reset can be selected with the blue but-ton. The appropriate setting is selected by pressing and turn-ing the button and can be sealed.

Test function andswitch position indicatorThe switch position indicator also incorporates a test function which, when activated, simu-lates a tripped overload relay. Both auxiliary contacts are actu-ated and the switch positon is indicated.

Terminal for contactor coil and auxiliary contactWhen the 3RU11 16 overload re-lays (size S00) are mounted di-rectly on the contactor, the auxil-iary contact and coil terminals A2 of the contactor are fed through which considerably fa-cilitates wiring. This is not neces-sary with sizes S0 to S3 as the contactors are equipped with 4 coil terminals.

Cage Clamp connection1)As of now, 3RU11 overload re-lays are available with Cage Clamp terminals. S00 relays are fitted with Cage Clamp termi-nals on the main and auxiliary contacts and relay sizes S0 to S3 on the auxiliary contacts.

AccessoriesThe accessories available are suitable for use with all sizes.• Electrical remote RESET with

different voltage variants.• Mechanical remote RESET

comprising a tappet, funnel and holder for actuating the switchgear cabinet door with a 3SB1 pushbutton.

• Cable release for RESET for devices which are not easily accessible.

Description

The current-time curves show the relatonship between the trip-ping time from cold state and multiples of the set current Ie. When the relay is at operating temperature and carrying 1.0 × Ie, the tripping times are reduced to approximately 25 %. For single-pole loads the trip-ping curves lie between the curves shown. For normal oper-ation, all 3 bimetallic strips of the overload relay must be heated. The 3RU11 overload relays are suitable for protecting motors with phase control. For protecting single-phase or DC-loads, all three main con-ducting paths must be con-nected in series. The release current with a 3-pole symmetri-cal load is between 105 % and 120 % of the set current.

Description

SpecificationsIEC 60 947-4-1, IEC 60 947-5-1 and DIN VDE 0660.3RB10 overload relays are suit-able for use in any climate. The devices are shock-hazard-protected acc. to DIN VDE 0106, Part 100.

GeneralThe 3RB10 overload relays form part of the new SIRIUS 3R switchgear generation. The solid-state version of the SIRIUS 3R overload relay is noted for its extensive setting ranges (set-ting ratio 1:4), for the phase fail-ure protection function (see characteristic curves) and also for the minimal energy require-ment. In terms of dimensions and termination, the solid-state (3RB10) and the thermally de-layed types (3RU11) are 100 % compatible. These devices are particularly suitable where mo-tor protection requirements are high and for motor starting times up to 20 s (CLASS 20 version). A special coating of the printed-circuit board and of the elec-tronic components assures reli-able operation even in aggres-sive and tropical atmospheres. Four sizes and two variants are available up to 100 A. The over-load relays are optimally matched, both electrically and mechanically, to the 3RT10 con-tactors or 3RW3 soft starter. They can, however, also be mounted separately with an adapter for installation as a sin-gle unit. Devices up to and in-cluding size S0 can be fitted on standard mounting rails without using tools.

Application3RB10 solid-state overload re-lays provide overload protec-tion for three-phase induction motors with rated currents of up to 100 A (45 kW, AC-3, 400 V).For short-circuit protection with fuses or circuit-breakers, the fusing values of the contactors must be taken into account.

OperationThe solid-state overload relays have been developed for use in sinusoidal 50/60 Hz voltage net-works. No additional power sup-ply is required for operation. Current transformers (for mea-surement) are already inte-grated. An ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) checks the current values of each phase and initiates re-lease in the event of overload or phase failure. The tripping current corre-sponds to 114 % of the set cur-rent.The overload relays must be set to the rated motor current.

Operation on frequencyconvertersThe 3RB10 solid-state overload relays are not suitable for the operation on frequency convert-ers. (Use thermal overload re-lays.)

Operation of single-phase motors

The 3RB10 solid-state overload relay is not suitable for the oper-ation of single-phase motors. Use the normal 3RU11 thermal overload relay instead.

Trip classesThe devices are available in CLASS 10 for normal starting (motor starting times up to 10 s) and in CLASS 20 for arduous startup conditions (motor start-ing times up to 20 s).

Phase failure protectionThe 3RB10 solid-state overload relays are equipped with phase-failure protection. If a phase fails, the device trips after only 3 s.

STOP functionActivating this function only af-fects the NC contact.

Manual/automatic resetManual or automatic reset can be selected with the blue but-ton. The appropriate setting is selected by pressing and turn-ing the button.

Bei Automatik-RESETsetzt das Überlastrelaisnach einer Wiederbere-itschaftszeit von 4 min

zurück. Rücksetzen perHand ist jederzeit

möglich.

Test function andswitch position indicatorThe switch position indicator also incorporates a test function which, when activated, simu-lates a tripped overload relay. Both auxiliary contacts are actu-ated and the switch position is indicated.

Terminal for contactor coil and auxiliary contactWhen the 3RB10 16 overload relay (size S00) is mounted di-rectly on the contactor, the aux-iliary contact and coil terminal A2 of the contactor are fed through which considerably fa-cilitates wiring. This is not nec-essary with sizes S0 as the con-tactors are equipped with 4 coil terminals.

Auxiliary contactsThe overload relays are equipped with an NC contact for disconnecting the contactor and an NO contact for signalling tripping. The breaking capacity of the switching contacts is very high so that the contactor coils can be switched directly.

MountingThe overload relays are mounted directly on the 3RT10 contactors. If they are fitted indi-vidually on a connector base, they can be fastened by means of screws or placed on a mount-ing rail. The connector bases of the 3RU11 thermally delayed re-lays can be used.

AccessoriesThe accessories of the 3RU11 thermal overload relays can be used for the 3RB10 solid-state overload relays.• Electrical remote RESET with

different voltage variants.• Mechanical remote RESET

comprising a tappet, funnel and holder for actuating the switchgear cabinet door with 3SB1 pushbutton.

• Cable release for RESET for devices which are not easily accessible.

• Sealable cover.

PTB Test Report

4/28 Siemens NS K · 2000

Description

Functions• Tripping in the event of over-

load, current unbalance, phase failure or blocked rotor.

• Full motor protection by con-nection of a thermistor (PTC sensor circuit in the motor coil) possible; it is deactivated by the prefitted wire jumper A (see front view). The monitor-ing system of the termistor is fail-safe, i. e. a wire break causes tripping.

• Earth-fault monitoring- internal for motors with 3-

lead connection (earth-fault detection in the event of fault currents > 30 % of the cur-rent setting Ie )

- The units with internal earth-fault detection are not suit-able for operation in star/delta combinations.

- external for motors with 3 and 4-lead connection by connection of a 3UL22 0 . –. A summation current trans-

former (reliable earth-fault detection in the event of fault currents of 0.3 A, 0.5 A and 1 A). These values are appli-cable for sinusoidal currents of 50/60 Hz

• Overload warning above- 1.15 × Ie with balanced load- 0.85 × Ie with unbalanced

load- display by flashing “over-

load” LED at the unit or ex-ternal via 1 NO/1 NC (ac-cording to the version of the unit)

• Electrically isolated auxiliary contactFunction according to version:- 1 NO/1 NC for overload trip-

ping by current and/or ther-mistor1 NO/1 NC for earth-fault tripping

- 1 NO/1 NC for overload trip-ping by current and/or ther-mistor and earth fault 1 NO/1 NC for overload warning

• Versions of the unit with monostable or bistable func-tioning of the output relays

• 3 LED displays (“Ready”,“Ground Fault”, “Overload”)

• Combined TEST-/RESET-button with function test

• Remote and automatic RESET by means of external wiring is possible (an automatic RESET in the event of tripping by earth-fault has no effect)

• Selectable trip class (time-lag class): CLASS 5/10/15/20/25/30

• Large ranges of the set cur-rent Ie

• High tripping precision• Current detection immune to

harmonics• Temperature range from

–25 °C to +70 °C• Self-monitoring, i.e. the units

trips in the event of an internal fault

• Versions of the unit for control supply voltages of 24 V DC, 110 to 120 V AC, 220 to 240 V AC.

Operation on frequency convertersThe 3RB12 solid-state relays are suitable for operation on fre-quency converters.

3RB12 overload relays with analog output

With the aid of the micropro-cessor, the measured motor current is converted to an ana-log DC 4 mA to 20 mA output signal. The maximum current of the 3 phases is always output. An output signal of 20 mA cor-responds to 1.25 times the set value. The current setting of the 3RB12 defines calculation of the absolute current value.

With the output signal, moving coil instruments with a 4 mA to 20 mA input can be controlled (final scale value for all sizes 125 %) or analog inputs of pro-grammable logic controllers can be fed. With an analog AS-Interface module (current), the current values can be transferred via AS-Interface.

Tripping characteristicsThe time-current characteristic for 3-pole symmetric loading shows the dependence of the tripping time from a cold state on multiples of the current set-ting.If the unit is pre-loaded with 100 % of the current setting, the tripping times are shortened to approx. 30 %.In the event of 2-pole loading (failure of a phase) or a current unbalance > 40 % of the current setting, the 2-pole characteris-tic applies.

CLASS 5 to CLASS 30

Description

Mode of operation and controlThe currently flowing motor cur-rent is detected in each phase via current transformers and continuously monitored by a microprocessor. If an overload > 110 % of the current Ie occurs which is set with the rotary knob on the front of the unit, if there is a current unbalance > 40 % of Ie or if a phase-failure occurs, tripping is initiated by the switching of two auxiliary contacts (1 NO/1 NC) after expiry of the tripping time which is set with the six-step ro-tary switch (CLASS 5/10/15/20/25/30 → see tripping characteristics).Resetting, either by pressing the TEST/RESET button on the unit or by remote or automatic RESET, is possible after the re-covery time of 5 min has elapsed.Tripping due to responding of the thermistor sensor occurs via the same auxiliary contacts but without a time delay. Here, re-setting is not possible until the temperature in the motor coil has fallen to 5 K below the oper-ating temperature of the ther-mistor.In the event of an earth-fault, the unit trips without a time delay. According to the version of the unit, this may happen via a sep-arate output (1 NO/1 NC). Re-setting of the unit is possible in this case without a time delay/without elapsing of a recovery time.A test of the unit’s functions, namely current detection, the thermistor and earth-fault input, and of the tripping functions of the auxiliary contacts can be ini-tiated by pressing the TEST/RE-SET button. The test of the unit’s functions can also be carried out during operation (LED sig-nals).A self-monitoring feature also causes the unit to trip when an internal fault occurs. In this case resetting is not possible.

SpecificationsIEC 60 947-4-1/DIN VDE 0660 Part 102; IEC 60 947-5-1/DIN VDE 0680 Part 200; IEC 60 801-2, -3, -4, -5; UL 508/CSA C 22.2.

Overload relays are used for protecting electrical equipment against overheating (3-phase motors, transformers, ...). This can be caused by overloading, unbalanced current input, phase failure (main leads) or a blocked rotor.Solid-state overload relays pro-vide highly-sophisticated mo-tor-protection such as• high precision of the tripping

characteristic with a tolerance of < ±10 %

• fine adaptation to normal or heavy starting duty by means of an adjustable trip class (CLASS 5/10/15/20/25/30)

• independence from outside influence such as shocks, dif-ferent cable cross-sections, temperature fluctuations, ag-gressive surroundings or age-ing

• a defined recovery time (here 5 min).

Function in the event of control supply voltage failure

In the case of a long-time failure of the control supply voltage (> 0.2 s), the output relays react in different ways depending on the version: monostable or bistable.

Control voltage failure

ApplicationThe 3RB12 electronic overload relays enable protection of elec-trical equipment and installa-tions with three different protec-tive mechanisms in one unit: • overload protection with per-

manent monitoring of the indi-vidual currents in the motor leads

• thermistor motor protection with evaluation of a PTC ther-mistor sensor circuit

• earth-fault protection:internalIn the event of a motor current between 0.3 times and twice the current setting, the unit trips at an earth-fault current that amounts to 30 % of the current setting. In the event of a motor current between twice and eight times the current setting, the unit trips at an earth-fault current that amounts to 15 % of the motor current. The response delay is 0.5 to 1 s.

external for motors with 3 and 4-lead connection by connection of a 3UL22 0 . – . A summation current transformer (reliable earth-fault detection in the event of fault currents of 0.3 A, 0.5 A and 1 A).

Thermistor protection (full motor protection) is provided by a PTC temperature sensor (e. g. for motors whose stator is the criti-cal component, motors with long starting and breaking pro-cedures, motors with impeded cooling or with high ambient temperatures).Additional evaluation equip-ment is not needed. Less space and wiring are therefore re-quired.

Description

The current transformers for all sizes of the 3RB12 electronic overload relays are already inte-grated in the housing.Units with current setting ranges < 100 A (overall width 70 mm) are designed for single installa-tion due to the push-through system used. With this system, the main power leads for rated motor cur-rents of 1.25 A to 100 A are sim-ply pushed through the current transformer integrated in the compact unit (“first loop”).

Design and mounting

Additional installation work and power losses at the transfer re-sistor of the terminal points which are otherwise needed are thus avoided. For rated motor currents IN smaller than 1.25 A, the motor leads in each phase can be taken through the loop-through holes several times (n times). The current setting Ie of the unit can then be calculated to Ie = n × IN (e.g.: IN = 0.5 A; n = 3; Ie = 3 × 0.5 A = 1.5 A).n = 5 is recommended as the practical upper limit.

Units with 70 mm overall width are either snapped onto a 35 mm standard mounting rail in accordance with EN 50 022 or are screwed onto a mounting plate by means of push-in lugs which are available as accesso-ries.For current setting ranges > 50 A to 820 A (overall width: 120 mm, 145 mm and 230 mm) the 3RB12 electronic overload relays can be directly mounted on the contactors via connect-ing rails.

The screw mounting for these units is integrated in the hous-ing.For 3RB12 53 units (overall width: 120 mm), a baseplate is also available for snap-on mounting on a 75-mm mounting rail.

Specifications

IEC 60 947-4-1/DIN VDE 0660 Part 102.

The overload relays are suitable for use in any climate. They are safe from touch acc. to DIN VDE 0106 Part 100. Depending on the specific arrangement with other equipment, the busbar connection terminals must be protected by 3TX6, 3TX7 or 3UX terminal covers. The overload relays are suitable for use on board ship.

Overload protection of flame-proof motors of protection type “increased safety” EEx e

EN 50 019/DIN VDE 0165, DIN VDE 0170/0171.• Copies of the tripping charac-

teristics for the tripping units and relays with inverse time-lag feature must be available at the point of use (for tripping characteristics refer to the In-structions).

• The tripping units or relays for squirrel cage motors must be selected so that the tripping time with 3-pole loading, inde-cated by the IA/IN curve for the protected motor, does not ex-ceed the locked-rotor time tE-given on the test label of the motor.

• The protective gear for motors must also be capable of giving protection in the event of fail-ure of one phase.

Overload relays with current transformers

3UX1 423 tripping relays are used with the 3UA66 and 3UA68 overload relays. They can either be snapped onto the current transformer or be in-stalled as single units. When the tripping relay is mounted separately from the current transformer the con-necting leads should be as fol-lows:• up to 4 m long:

4 mm2 Cu cross-section,• up to 2.5 m long:

2.5 mm2 Cu cross-section,• up to 1.5 m long:

1.5 mm2 Cu cross-section.

The set current (rated current of load) must also be set on the scale against the reference mark:

Tripping curve 3 is applicable to 3-pole loads and curve 2 to 2-pole loads. For single-pole loads, the tripping curves lie be-tween curves 2 and 3. For nor-mal operation, all 3 bimetallic strips of the overload relay must be heated. The 3UA overload relays are suitable for protect-ing motors with phase control. For protecting single-phase or DC-loads, therefore, all three main conducting paths must be connected in series. Tripping curve 3 is then applicable. The release current with a 3-pole symmetrical load is between 105 % and 120 % of the set cur-rent. Typical tripping characteristics

Description

SpecificationsThe tripping units are suitable for use in any climate and safe from touch acc. to DIN VDE 0106 Part 100.The 3RN1 tripping units comply with basic standard EN 50 081-2; EN 50 082-2 “Electromag-netic Compatibility of Measur-ing and Control Equipment in In-dustrial Process Engineering” and DIN VDE 0660 Parts 302 and 303; IEC 60 034-11-2 Sec-tion 1 and 2 “Thermal Machine Protection for Rotating Electrical Machines, Temperature Sen-sors and Tripping Units” and “Thermistor Temperature Sen-sor and Tripping Units”.The terminal designation of the auxiliary contacts is in accor-dance with EN 50 005.

Application3RN1 thermistor motor protec-tion tripping units are thermal protection devices which, in conjunction with PTC ther-mistors, are suitable for the tem-perature monitoring of electrical drives, transformer windings, oils, bearings, air etc.

Mode of operationThe 3RN1 tripping units work according to the principle of the closed-circuit current and thus are self-monitoring in the event of wire breakage. A short-time voltage failure of less than 200 ms (in the case of wide volt-age units < 100 ms) does not al-ter the state of the auxiliary con-tacts. The multifunctional evaluation unit 3RN10 13 is also fitted with a short-circuit detec-tion feature in the sensor circuit. In the event of a short-circuit in the sensor circuit (resistance in the sensor circuit < 20 Ω), the unit trips. In the tripping units, the control circuit and the sen-sor circuit are electrically iso-lated from each other when the control voltage is AC (DC con-trol supply voltage: no electrical isolation).

1) See page 6 for notes onCage Clamp connection.

3RN10 00 compact tripping unit The compact unit features a red TRIPPED LED and one change-over contact.Reset after tripping is automatic after the thermistors have cooled down. The root of the changeover contact is con-nected to the control voltage (95 with A1 terminal). This unit is particulary suitable in circuits in which control and signalling circuits have the same potential, e. g. in local switchboxes.

Standard tripping unitThe standard units feature two LEDs (READY and TRIPPED) and also 1 NO and 1 NC for switching off and signalling. They are obtainable with auto-matic RESET (3RN10 10), man-ual RESET (3RN10 11) or man-ual/automatic and remote RESET (3RN10 12). The 3RN10 12 is non-resetting in the event of voltage failure and so, in the event of a control voltage failure any previous tripping is stored.

3RN10 13 multifunctional trip-ping unit With the 3RN10 13 thermistor motor protection tripping units, the sensor circuit is monitored for short-circuiting as well. Trip-ping in the event of a short-cir-cuit is indicated by a flickering red LED. The monostable de-vices are additionally equipped with a wire-break detection and indication for the sensor circuit, which is indicated by flashing of the red LED.The 3RN10 13 tripping unit is equipped with manual, remote and automatic RESET functions. With the TEST/RESET button, the tripping unit is reset by hand.

A remote RESET is made possi-ble by connecting an external pushbutton to the Y1, Y2 termi-nals. If the Y1, Y2 terminals are jumpered, tripping is followed by automatic RESET.

Tripping unit “Alarm and Trip” 3RN10 22Two sensor circuits, each of which affects one output relay, can be connected to a 3RN10 22 tripping unit. The use of tem-perature sensors with different rated operating temperatures TNF make the functions “Alarm” and “Trip” possible. A response of the sensor circuit for “Alarm” is signalled by a yellow LED and for “ Trip” by a red LED.The sensor circuits have differ-ent resetting functions:• “Alarm” (terminals 2T1, T2) ex-

clusively automatic RESET• “Switch off” (terminals 1T1,

T2), can be changed from manual RESET to automatic RESET by jumpering of termi-nals Y1, Y2. Remote RESET is made possible by connecting an external pushbutton.

Tripping unit “Multiple motor protection” 3RN10 62Up to six sensor circuits, all of which affect the output relay, can be connected to the 3RN10 62 tripping unit. Simulta-neous protection of up to 6 mo-tors is an advantage when group drives are used (e.g. if one motor is overloaded, all mo-tors of the group are switched off). In addition to the red LED “TRIPPED” which signals the switching state of the tripping unit, each sensor circuit is pro-vided with an LED which indi-cates the sensor circuit oper-ated when tripping occurs. Sensor circuits that are not needed must be short-circuited.

The reset function of the 3RN10 62 tripping units can be changed from manual RESET to automatic RESET by jumper-ing the Y1, Y2 terminals. Remote RESET is made possi-ble by connecting an external pushbutton.

Cage Clamp connection1)The 3RN1 thermistor motor pro-tectors are available with Cage Clamp connection as an alter-native to screw connection.Cage Clamp connection is: • fast because wire sleeves

can be dropped and later checks are superfluous,

• reliable because it is resistant to vibrations, thus ensuring maximum contact reliability,

• maintenance-free because checks of screwed connec-tions after transportation are superfluous.

NotesV In the case of tripping units actuated by DC, electrical isola-tion must be ensured by a bat-tery or a safety transformer to DIN VDE 0551.V When use is made of trip-ping units with auto reset in the EEx e area, the control wiring must ensure that the monitored machine will not automatically restart. V In the case of tripping units without short-circuit detection, the sensor resistor must be measured with a suitable mea-suring instrument during com-missioning. If the resistance is < 50 ohm, the sensor circuit must be checked for a short-cir-cuit. V When use is made of 3RN 1000 (no Ready LED), and of the 3RN10 13-1BW01 unit (no change in switching state of the auxiliary switching elements in the event of control failure) for the protection of EEx e motors, separate monitoring of the con-trol voltage is recommended.

Description

Protecting the windings of three-phase transformersA 3RN10 22 thermistor protec-tion combination unit for alarm and tripping and e.g. a 3RP15 time-delay relay can be used for protecting the windings of three-phase dry-type transform-ers by means of PTC Tempera-ture Sensors when the opera-tional voltage of the thermistor motor protection tripping unit must be taken from the main power supply system. The K4 contactor relay then operates on the open-circuit shunt re-lease of the high-voltage switch.

Mode of operationWhen the primary side of the transformer is energized, the voltage on the secondary side builds up to its maximum value within 1.5 s. Since the 3RN1 tripping unit only responds at 0.8 × Us , it would cause the trip-ping of the circuit-breaker via its

open circuit shunt release as long as the operational voltage is available via the still-closed contacts 95-98 of the contactor K4.In order to prevent this, termi-nals K07 and K97 are not ener-gized until it is certain that the 3RN1 trippping units have picked up and the auxiliary cir-cuits have switched to the “Ready” position. The K3 and K4 contactors are not operated until the rated operating temper-ture TNF of each sensor is ex-ceeded. The trippping unit should be switched to “Automatic RESET” (wire jumper between terminals Y1 and Y2). This ensures that the 3UN22 tripping unit is reset when the transformer is turned on again after tripping. The time-delay relay should nor-mally be set to a delay time of ≥ 1.5 s

PTB Test ReportIn conjunction with PTC ther-mistors acc. to DIN VDE 0660 Parts 302 and 303 and DIN 44 081/DIN 40 082 the trip-ping units with alternating cur-rent operation1) are approved for the direct temperature moni-toring of flameproof motors of protection type “increased safety” EEx e and bear the ap-propriate test symbol. The fol-lowing specifications apply:• EN 50 019, • DIN VDE 0170/0171,• DIN VDE 0165, • PTB test regulations

DIN V 0801, Requirement class = AK 3,

• DIN 19 251.With tripping units with DC actu-ation, the electrical isolation must be guaranteed by a bat-tery mains or a safety isolating transformer according to DIN VDE 0551. When 3RN10 13-. . . 01 units(no change of the switching state of the auxiliary contacts in case of control-voltage failure) are used to protect EEx e elec-trical motors, separate monitor-ing of the control voltage is rec-ommended.PTB Approvals No. 3RN10 11/12/13/22/62:PTB EX 3.43-7096/99

WiringThe circuit wiring must be in-stalled as separate control leads. Using the cores of the motor supply leads or other main power cables is not per-missible. If extreme inductive or capacitive interference from parallel power cables is antici-pated, screened leads must be used.Maximum cable length for sen-sor circuit:

7PX80 Direct Voltage Adapter

With the 7PX80 40-0A direct voltage adapter, it is possible to use the solid-state overload re-lays 3RB12 ..-..B.. with a voltage in the range from 30 to 120 V DC.

Parallel connection of direct voltage adapters is not al-lowed.By means of an in-phase regu-lator, the input voltage is brought down to 19 to 24 V DC (non-floating). As a result of the regulator’s operating principle, the difference between the input voltage and the output voltage is converted into heat losses. It is therefore recommended that a distance of 10 mm is kept from adjacent units. The direct voltage adapter can also be used to advantage where the input voltage fluctu-ates in a range other than 0.8 to 1.1 × UN.

The number of units which can be operated with the direct volt-age adapter depends on their current input and the maximum input voltage (see load dia-gram).

Technical data

ApplicationThe purpose of the residual-cur-rent device protection is to pre-vent the build-up of excessive contact voltage on exposed conductive parts by interrupting all phases and the neutral of the supply line within 0.2 s, in the event of a fault current which ex-ceeds a specified value. In conjunction with circuit-breakers, the residual-current device supplements the earth-leakage circuit-breaker ranges 5SV and 5SZ.The residual-current device is also suitable for earth-fault mon-itoring.The version with ON-delay per-mits trip discrimination with load-side circuit-breakers, which are combined with instan-taneous residual-current de-vices.The 3UL21 tripping relays and the associated, but separate, 3UL22 summation current transformers are resistant to cli-matic changes.

Design and mode of operationThe tripping relay consists of a tripping mechanism and an auxiliary switch 1 NO + 1 NC. These components are acco-modated in a moulded-plastic enclosure. The auxiliary switch acts, for example, on the under-voltage release of the associ-ated circuit-breaker (see Page 4/49).The separate summation cur-rent transformer is likewise en-capsulated in a moulded-plas-tic enclosure.

Description

The main conductors, including the neutral conductor, are passed through the window in the summation current trans-former.The summation current trans-formers are provided with screening tubes, which prevent erroneous tripping due to high motor starting currents. If delayed tripping is required, the summation current trans-former with ON-delay must be combined with the correspond-ing tripping relay.A blue resetting button R, with which the self-inhibiting relay must be enabled after tripping, is located on the front of the re-lay enclosure. A black test butt-ton T for checking the residual-current device is also provided. When the test button is pressed, the residual-current device must trip the associated circuit-breaker via the auxiliary switch (refer to typical circuit dia-grams). The test button should be pressed occasionally to check the residual-current de-vice for correct functioning. For r.c.d. protection, all accessi-bly exposed conductive parts are earthed, insofar as they are not automatically and perma-nently connected to earth. The neutral conductor must, however, not be earthed again after the summation current transformer, otherwise proper functioning of the residual-cur-rent device is not ensured.

The maximum resistance to earth RA, related to the permissi-ble continuous contact voltages UL can be obtained from the fol-lowing expression:

Permissible resistance to earth RA

When an installation is function-ing normally, the sum of the cur-rents and their field in the sum-mation current transformer is zero, i. e. no voltage is induced in the secondary winding. If, however, an insulation defect after the residual-current device allows a fault current to flow to earth, the resulting differential current energizes the second-ary winding of the transformer. This occurs irrespective of whether the earth fault occurs on the equipment being pro-tected or in one of the lines. The voltage induced in the second-ary winding acts on the coil of a holding magnet; the built-in aux-iliary switch, 1 NO + 1 NC with reclosing lock-out, then trips the circuit-breaker or causes the contactor to drop out.Depending on local conditions, the summation current trans-former can be connected either ahead of, or after, the circuit-breaker.

The test resistor of the tripping relay is not continuously rated. It must therefore be ensured that the supply for the test circuit is interrupted when the relay picks up. This applies to voltage tap-ping after the associated circuit-breaker (refer to page 4/49). If the voltage is tapped ahead of the circuit-breaker or if a differ-ent voltage source is selected, the test circuit must be interrupt-ed with auxiliary switches 15 to 16 (refer to page 4/49).• Terminals

The terminals of the tripping relays and summation current transformers are of the SIGUT type. Two solid (1 to 2.5) mm2

conductors or two finely-stranded (0.75 to 1.5) mm2 conductors with end sleeves can be connected.

• Mounting positionThe tripping relays and sum-mation current transformers can be mounted in any posi-tion.
