28th April 2016 : Term 2 Week 1

ANZAC Day Assembly

On the 8th of April, Orange High School remembered and paid their respects to all those servicemen and servicewomen who have served Australia. School Captains led the service, with President of the RSL Sub Branch, Lindsay Wright, and Vice President, Chris Carden, talking to staff and students about their experiences and what Anzac Day means to them. Year 9 students Zali Smith and Georgia Keppie read their original poems "A Day we call Anzac Day" and "He Mourns in Victory". The Orange High School Concert Band performed, and led the school in the National Anthem. Lynton Robbins played the didgeridoo. As students of Orange High School we are grateful for opportunities to thank the veterans for all they have done for us, and remember those lost. by Georgia Keppie, Maddie Sullivan and Zali Smith.

Welcome to Term 2 at Orange High. It was terrific to see so many students commemorate ANZAC Day by marching with the school at the Orange Community March last Monday. As principal I was incredi-bly proud of our students and the way they commemorated ANZAC Day. During the School Development Day last Tuesday, teachers completed professional learning workshops in the integration of digital technologies in learning. The workshops included learning in:

Formative assessment tools, Differentiation tools online, OneNote for the classroom, Website building for student blogs, Blended learning for today Google Apps for collaboration and Flipped Learning.

The day was a combined day with colleagues from other secondary school across the region and provided many networking and sharing opportunities. I look forward to seeing the learning from the day translated into classroom learning. Congratulations to our Cattle Team for their terrific success at recent shows in Bathurst and

Orange during the holidays. At the Bathurst Show we achieved Champion Bull and Champion

Reserve Heifer and at the Orange Show we attained Senior Champion Bull and Champion

Cow with a 3rd in Breeder Pair with our students placing in Junior Judging and Parading.

In addition, a number of students were well placed in the judging competition demonstrating

a high level of understanding of the qualities of cattle and assessment requirements.

Orange Show - Art Exhibit Orange High won in the Art Section Best Secondary School exhibit. Well done to all involved showcasing student

artwork.

Bathurst and Orange Show The OHS cattle team worked tirelessly over the three days of the Royal Bathurst Show preparing and exhibiting Monreith Galloways cattle to the highest standard. Along with outstanding results in the Galloway classes the team picked up places in Junior judging and Junior Parading. The team also assisted in preparation and showing cattle for Minto Galloway and Taraloo Miniature Hereford studs. Thanks to the OHS cattle team parents and Jason Viles who have made this show possible. The Cattle Team were also extremely successful at the Orange Show. Well done everyone!

Shave For A Cure On the last day of Term 1, $5000 was raised for Cancer Council’s Shave for a Cure meaning that the amazing Mrs Crossingham shaved her head at assembly with the help of Miss Townsend! Friday the 29th of April is the big day for our remaining ‘Shave For A Cure’ team including Miss Townsend & many students who are willing to shave, cut & colour their hair to raise money for Cancer Council! There is still time to donate to this worthy cause! Well done Mrs Crossingham you look amazing!
