31B − TELESCOPING

1. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS The slewing crane part must be balanced compulsorily when the telescoping assembly is lifted or

being lifted and during the introduction of a mast section.

The wind speed is limited to 50 km/h.Working in height (danger of fall) must be carried out with the safety harness.

The wind speed is limited to 50 km/h.

 IT IS FORBIDDEN:

 to slew the jib

to operate the hoist winch (Hoisting or Lowering) when the telescoping assembly is lifted or beinglifted

to operate the luffing motions of the jib when the telescoping assembly is lifted or being lifted

to keep the telescoping assembly resting on the cylinder

Use of the safety pins when telescoping:

The telescopic cage is equipped with 4 pins of which the diameter has been reduced by 2 mmin order to make their fitting easier.

These pins, connected to the telescopic cage by means of a chain, are ONLY TO BE USED FORTELESCOPING.They ensure the connection between the fixed towerhead or connecting mastand the last telescoped mast section on each mast level.

They must be fitted on the lateral sides.

At the end of telescoping and before unpinning the connection of telescopic cage/fixed towerheador connecting mast and lowering the telescopic cage, they must be replaced by the normal mastpins.

It is strictly forbidden to put the crane into service before placing the normalworking pins.

 Interruption of telescoping:

The last mast section must be pin−connected to the crane tower with the normal pins.

The towerhead or the connecting mast must be pin−connected to the last mast section of thecrane tower with the normal working pins.

The balancing load must be laid down.

There is no mast section hanging from the monorail trolley. The latter must be lowered to theground.

The pulley block must be raised under the jib, so that it cannot get caught by the monorail(s) whenthe crane is weathervaning.

For SHIFT END, observe the instructions given.

2. HANDLING THE TELESCOPIC CAGE

2. 1. LOWERING THE TELESCOPIC CAGE BY MEANS OF THE CRANE

COMPULSORILY consult us.

THIS PROCEDURE IS FORBIDDEN IF THE WEIGHT OF THEEQUIPPED TELESCOPIC CAGE IS HIGHER THAN THEMAXIMUM WEIGHT OF THE CRANE IN THE CHOSEN CON-FIGURATION.

2. 2. MOUNTING THE TELESCOPIC CAGE BY MEANS OF THE CRANE

COMPULSORILY consult us.

THIS PROCEDURE IS FORBIDDEN IF THE WEIGHT OF THEEQUIPPED TELESCOPIC CAGE IS HIGHER THAN THEMAXIMUM WEIGHT OF THE CRANE IN THE CHOSEN CON-FIGURATION.

10 A

FOR CRANES WITH A LOWER MAXIMUM LOAD, it is possible to lay down the hydraulic unit, thehydraulic cylinder and the telescoping yoke in order to reduce the weight of the assembly to be handledwithout exceeding the maximum load of the crane.

If, despite of removing the accessories, the weight is higher than the maximum load of the crane, THETELESCOPIC CAGE MUST COMPULSORILY BE LOWERED AGAIN BY MEANS OF THEHYDRAULIC CYLINDER.

ALL THESE OPERATIONS MUST BE CARRIED OUT WITH ADJUSTED SAFETY DEVI-CES.

Preparation for telescoping consists of placing the accessories required for telescoping.

Most are placed during fitting of the relevant crane part without being «ready to work» as such.

These appliances are tested and guaranteed by the constructor. In the case of serious breakdown, it isadvisable to contact our After−Sales−Service rather than to carry out a faulty repair which could be dan-gerous and cancel the guarantee.

3. 2. FITTING THE TELESCOPING YOKE

This operation is carried out when lowering or re−raising the telescopic cage along the mast tower.

Use a long double sling (1) so as to better guide the yoke against the mast.

1

Position the yoke exactly opposite a set of telescoping lugs.

Hook the yoke (2) onto the telescoping lugs (3) using support shoes (4); lock it by means of plates (5)screwed onto the support shoes by the screw bolts (6).

3. 3. FITTING THE CAGE

Fixing the telescopic cage on the towerhead:

It is recommended to carry out this operation during the erection. There are two possibilities:

Using the cylinder in the case of a short movement:

Put the hydraulic system into service. When the yoke is fixed on the lugs, carry out a stroke untilthe cage uprights (1) can be introduced into the towerhead gussets (2). Pin−connect using pins(3) and fix with split−pins.

 Using slings:

Either by means of the mobile crane during erection

Or using the crane after its putting into service for a height increase or for dismantling

Use a 4 m sling which runs around the rear cage beam at the level of the cylinder attachment (4).Remove the device locking the cage on the basic mast. Lift up and guide using a crowbar untilthe cage uprights are inserted in the towerhead gussets (2). Then pin−connect using pins (3) andfix with split−pins.

DURING THIS OPERATION COMPENSATE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE THE LATERALFORCES DUE TO THE SLING TRACTION IN ORDER TO AVOID LOCKING THE TELE-SCOPIC CAGE ON THE MAST.

3. 4. FITTING THE MONORAILS

The monorails are fitted onto the fixed towerhead or the connecting mast. This operation can be carriedout:

 In the air, before telescoping.

On the ground, before fitting the towerhead or the connecting mast.

3. 4. 1. FITTING THE MONORAILS IN THE AIR

Fitting the monorails is carried out by means of the telescoping hook.

3. 4. 2. FITTING THE MONORAILS ON THE GROUND

The fitting operations are identical with those of fitting in the air (preceeding paragraph), on the other hand, handling the monorails will be carried out by means of the mobile crane and a sling instead of the telescop-ing hook.

3. 5. FITTING THE MONORAIL TROLLEY

Lifting the monorail trolley (1) with or without mast section is carried out by means of the telescoping hook(2).

The monorail trolley is fixed onto the upper mast uprights (3) by means of the fixing brackets (4) by4 fishplate bolts (5):

When fitting on the ground onto the mast sections which have been just assembled.

When dismantling in the crane tower onto the standard mast section to be dismantled.

Observe the direction of the guides (6) (on the side of the telescoping lugs) and the fitting directionof the screw bolts (5).

In order to put the monorail trolley alone into the telescopic cage or to take it out of the cage, the fixingbrackets (4) must be placed in folded up position. Operate in the direction of the arrows.

4. BALANCING FOR TELESCOPING

4. 1. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Balancing for telescoping is carried out in two phases:

Theoretical by hanging a load at a given radius.

Practical by adjusting the jib position.

BALANCING WHEN TELESCOPING 32B

Reminder: It is strictly forbidden to SLEW the jibto OPERATE the luffing motions of the jibto OPERATE the hoist winch (hoisting or lowering)

when the telescoping assembly is lifted or being lifted.

4. 2. PARTICULAR INSTRUCTIONS

The good working order of the telescoping assembly (cylinder and telescopic cage) needs that the centerof gravity of the lifted crane part is located in the cylinder axis. Make sure too, that one mast section ishanging from the monorails before balancing.

Move the jib with or without load to the theoretical balancing distance.

BALANCING WHEN TELESCOPING 32B

The indicated distances are theoretical; they especially depend on the actual weight of the counter−jibballast.

Furthermore, the wind has a considerable action on the crane balance, telescoping is no longer allowedbeyond 50 km/h.

4. 3. BALANCING THE CRANE

4. 3. 1. PREPARING Check that a mast section is hanging from the monorails.

Check that the telescopic cage is pin−connected to the towerhead or to the connecting mast.

Move the jib with or without load to the theoretical balancing distance.

BALANCING WHEN TELESCOPING 32B

Remove the fishplate pins of the last mast section connecting it with the towerhead or the connectingmast.

4. 3. 2. BALANCING THE CRANE

Balancing can only be carried out if the towerhead feet (1) are lifted off of the mast fishplates (2).

Operate the hydraulic unit lever in ”Up“ direction and telescope until the towerhead feet are lifted offof the fishplates.

Check the balancing of the crane and, if necessary, readjust it by modifying the jib radius.

The exact position will be found by checking the alignment of the towerhead feet with the mast fish-plates and by reading the minimum pressure, necessary for telescoping, on the pressure gauge ofthe hydraulic unit.

5. TELESCOPING SEQUENCES

5. 1. GENERAL NOTESThe whole telescoping operations are carried out from the telescopic cage catwalks.

5. 2. PRINCIPLEThe telescoping sequence comprises a series of operations which are repeated several times:

Lifting the crane part to be telescoped by extending the cylinder which rests on the telescoping yoke(1).

Resting the lifted crane part on the lugs (2) of the mast by means of the support shoes (3) of the telescopic cage.

Remove the safety wedges (4) which lock the support shoes (5) on the lugs (6).

Unhook the support shoe/yoke assembly, release it from the lugs and raise it by retracting the cylinder.

5. 3. INTRODUCING THE MAST SECTION

The lifted crane part is resting on the upper lugs (1) of the last mast section by means of the supportshoes (2) of the cage. The cylinder is almost entirely extended and the total stroke does not allow thatthe upper guide rollers of the telescopic cage lift off of the fixed part of the crane tower.

Slide the mast toward the inside and introduce it into the cage, see fig. A.

Operate “Up” with the hydraulic group lever so as to release the support shoes (2) from the lugs (1).Keep the support shoes away from the mast using the control rod (3).

5. 4. HANGING THE 2nd MAST SECTION FROM THE MONORAILS

To hang the mast section to be telescoped from the monorails, it is essential that the lifted crane partis solidly anchored to the fixed towerhead.

For this, operate “Down” with the lever of the hydraulic group until the towerhead feet (1) engage inthe fishplates of the last mast fitted.

Fit 4 safety drifts instead of the pins (2).

If required, lower the balancing load, hang the monorail trolley from the pulley block.

Hook another mast section fitted with its accesses on the monorail trolley (3) and raise it to the mono-rails (4).

If required, retake the balancing load and balance the crane. Unpin at (2).

Another telescoping sequence can be started. Repeat it until the required height is reached.

iBEFORE FITTING THE LAST MAST SECTION EQUIPIT WITH THE PLATFORM GIVING ACCESS TO THE TO-WERHEAD

5. 5. END OF TELESCOPING

5. 5. 1. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Having completed telescoping:

 Dismantle the telescopic cage

or

Lower the telescopic cage as low as possible:

For cranes on chassis, the telescopic cage is lowered to the level of the first mast section abovethe chassis.

For cranes on cross−shaped base, the telescopic cage is lowered to the level of the base ballast.

For cranes on fixing angles, the telescopic cage is lowered to the mast section placed above thefixing angles by keeping space enough to reach the access ladders of the crane tower.

For very high cranes (anchored or guyed crane), the telescopic cage is always lowered to the levelof the last anchorage.

and

Fold down the monorails along the masts.
