2020 HOSPITAL AUXILIARY COVID-19 RULES AND PROTOCOLS

Before you attend our golf event--either as a participant or volunteer--you must be free of fever, cough or other symptoms of COVID-19. You must not have come in contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 for a minimum of two weeks. The South Carolina Golf Association has adopted new guidelines to protect the health and safety of players, host facility staff and volunteers. KEEP IN MIND THESE POLICIES AND GUIDELINES CAN CHANGE AT ANYTIME as guidelines and recommendations from DHEC, CDC, and our state and local government change. Thank you for reviewing and adopting these practices to protect all stakeholders at events. WAIVER OF LIABILITY To further ensure the safety of all players, staff and volunteers, we ask that you complete the “Tournament Player Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability” form. We will send via email and collect these before you tee off on day one. Please familiarize yourself with and follow best practices regarding social distancing and hand hygiene published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. PRACTICE AREAS & PRE-ROUND WARMUP Players should not arrive at the golf course more than ONE HOUR before their starting time. To eliminate congestion on the practice facilities, warm up time and spaces will be limited.

UPON ARRIVAL AT THE COURSE:

You will need to handle your own golf bag on and off the golf cart. We will have two players per cart. However, you have the option of carrying your own

bag, push cart or one walker and one rider, or wearing face protection. CLUBHOUSE All players and spectators are discouraged from congregating in the clubhouse, parking lot or any other common areas. Should a suspension of play occur, please head immediately to your car and wait for instruction by text message. SOCIAL DISTANCING All players must maintain a minimum of SIX FEET distance from all other people, including other players, club staff, volunteers, etc. at all times. This includes the parking lot, putting green, practice area, on the golf course, restrooms, clubhouse and golf shop at host facilities. The only exception is when riding in a golf cart with another player.

DURING THE ROUND

Bunkers – If tournaments are played without bunker rakes: Relief from an abnormal ground condition (i.e. a footprint) for the lie of the ball only, the player may lift the ball, smooth the area and place it within one club length, no closer to the hole. Players are also encouraged to smooth out all bunkers with their feet when exiting after play. Holed – The definition of Holed is modified in this way: If any part of the ball is in the hole below the surface of the putting green, the ball is treated as holed even if the entire ball is not below the surface. Flagstick - Under the Rules of Golf, players are permitted to leave the flagstick in the hole while putting. POST-ROUND Players are asked to refrain from the traditional handshake or hug prior to and after all rounds. A friendly nod, a tip of the cap, or wave is a recommended form of greeting or sportsmanship. As soon as you attest your scorecard, you will need to immediately leave the golf course. SCORING After the round, all players will verify scores verbally and visually. Scores are deemed returned and attested once players verbally verify scores. Results from round one and round two will be sent to the team captains electronically and available on the website. There will be no scoreboards, all scoring will be visible online through Golf Genius TM. AWARDS & GIFT CERTIFICATES The committee will mail golf prizes to the flight winners along with prizes for closet to the pin. FOOD & BEVERAGE Java Burrito will provide morning coffee and Panera will provide bagels. Kroger will provide lunch each day and Coca Cola will provide soft drinks and water. There will be beverage carts on the course for snacks and other beverages at your own expense. INCLEMENT WEATHER/SUSPENSION OF PLAY In the event of inclement weather, PARTICIPANTS will be the top priority. Players are to report to their vehicles during suspensions and/or delays. Suspensions, delays and starting instructions will be sent via text, email to all participants. FORMAT: Two (2) Best Balls (NET) of foursome over 36 holes. Your team has been placed in one of 16 flights based on the team’s total HDCP.

• TEES: Men will play from 6,200 yards, except those men opting to “Tee It Forward” who

will play from tee markers set at 5,800. A player will deduct 2 strokes if teeing it forward, beginning with the easiest stroke holes.

• BOGEY RULE: To speed up play, the maximum NET score for a player on any hole is a

bogey. HANDICAP

• MEN: Your course handicap is based on your 11/15/20 index from 6,200 yards x

80%. If you elect to “Tee It Forward” to 5,800 yards, you must deduct 2 strokes.

History of the Tournament

A primary source of revenue to fund the Hospital Auxiliary programs is our annual golf tournament. The tournament was started as an 18-hole tournament at Harbour Town in 1986 by Max Stein. Max expanded the event to 36 holes in 1988 and continued to chair it until he was 90 years old. He then passed leadership on to Lew Wessel

who managed it for 10 years.

In 2017, Bob Elliott, a retired senior marketing executive from Dow Chemical and member at Belfair, took over the reins as Tournament Director. Through his tireless perseverance, creativity and dedication, Bob has made the tournament more successful each year. He and his committee run a tournament that continues to have a sellout field of 260 every year because it combines two days of outstanding

golf at a great price and at the best courses with a spirited, fun atmosphere.

Our tournament has become known as the most prestigious charity golf event on the island. In recent years we have been able to double the proceeds with the

support of loyal golfers and sponsors.

We have added new levels of sponsorship opportunities ranging from $500 to $5,000. We encourage our sponsors to play in the golf event and have offered complimentary player spots at the various sponsor levels in addition to the

promotion and recognition we provide.

Our initial goal was to provide nursing scholarships to attract new students and help to address the shortage of nurses in the Lowcountry. Over the years, a grand total of over $800,000 has been raised since the tournament’s inception. Now the

Tournament Committee has set a goal of reaching $1million by the year 2022.

In 2019 we were able to extend our reach and support to the community by

raising a record $50,000 allocated as follows:

• $15,000 for the nursing and allied health program at the Technical

College of the Lowcountry from our tournament GOLD Sponsors,

• $10,000 for the nursing program at USC Beaufort from our

tournament GOLD Sponsors,

• $5,000 for The Hospital Auxiliary Women’s Health Program from

The Corkern Group, our Title Sponsor,

• $14,000 in scholarships for qualified hospital volunteers and children

of hospital employees to pursue degrees in the medical field from

our Silver Sponsors, and

• $6,000 for The Auxiliary Caring Touch Program (A.C.T.) from our

Tournament Sponsors.

Allocation of proceeds from 2019 Hospital Auxiliary Invitational Golf Tournament

“In addition to providing financial assistance for my education, your faith in me provides even more motivation to continue studying hard and to

reach my goal of a nursing degree.”

“In honor of you, I plan to be a contributor as well when I become established in my future PT career so that I may pass on the good deed.”

“I have cried almost every day in appreciation of this gift. God bless you

and I swear somehow, some way I will work as hard as I can to make others feel as good as you have made me feel.”

“As a recipient of this award and on behalf of all previous and future students of TCL, I will forever be grateful to receive your support.”

“I am lucky that people and/or organizations like you see the importance

of investing in the future of others.“

“Because of your generosity I can focus on excelling academically, instead of

obsessing about the financial aspects of my education.”
