Thank you to those families who supported us on Sunday. I’d like to make special mention of the following people: Kate Foot for painting many of our signs and props; Annette Kelly for painting the jukebox; Mrs Hynd and Mrs Brown for their organisation of the event and for painting the skirt that went around the truck; Neil Harris for delivering the hay bales; the Lineham family for donating the hay bales; and Kevin Wyhoon for driving and allowing us to use his company’s truck. Without the generosity of these people, we would not have had such a fantastic day. We were awarded a prize of a $100 Coles Myer voucher for the float, which is testament to the hard work of many kids, staff and families. Well done. Scalzo donation The school recently received a donation of $800 from Scalzo Fine Foods company in Bayles. We are very grateful to Scalzo’s for their contribution to the school. Indigenous Education Last week I invited two of the department’s Koorie Education Support Officers (KESO), Rex and Terry, to speak at the school assembly about the acknowledgement of the traditional owners of the Bayles and surrounding areas, the Boonwurrung people of the Kulin nation. Rex and Terry spoke to the kids and parents about the 600 nations and languages that have existed in Australia for between forty and sixty thousand years, long before European settlement in 1788. Terry’s mob, the Kurnai Gunai tribe, are the traditional owners of the area around Mt Baw Baw and Rex’s mob, the Ngagiro tribe, are in the Snowy Mountains of NSW. Since both Terry and Rex are not from this area, they presented the Acknowledgement to Country statement which reads: “We would like to acknowledge the Boonwurrung people who are the traditional custodians of this land. I would also like to pay respect to Elders both past and present of the Boonwurrung nation and extend that respect to other Aboriginal people present.” We are also flying the aboriginal flag at the basketball court flagpole, once again as a mark of respect to the traditional owners. Dear Parents and Friends

Yakkerboo Parade The Yakkerboo Festival parade on Sunday was amazing. It was a beautiful morning for a parade around the streets of Pakenham, with many kids and their families coming along to either sit on the float or watch as the parade went past.

This money has gone to Parents Club so they can upgrade their cooking utensils, appliances and containers for the homestyle lunches.

Since both Terry and Rex are not from this area, they presented the Acknowledgement to Country statement which reads:

“We would like to acknowledge the Boonwurrung people who are the traditional custodians of this land. I would also like to pay respect to Elders both past and present of the Boonwurrung nation and extend that respect to other Aboriginal people present.”

We are also flying the aboriginal flag at the basketball court flagpole, once again as a mark of respect to the traditional owners.

Principal’s Report (Continued)

SuperFlex The children are continuing to learn about social thinking through the use of a fun, new curriculum using a social-thinking superhero named SuperFlex. The goal of this curriculum is to provide a motivating way to improve your child’s social and behavioural flexibility and to ultimately develop better self-monitoring and self-feedback loops for their social behaviour. The concept is based on the ideas that we all have a superhero, SuperFlex, in our brains and he/she is constantly battling the Team of Unthinkables who represent a variety of unexpected behaviours. The kids are currently learning about how to combat The Unwonderer who tries to prevent people from showing interest in others and their interests, and the BrainEater who makes it hard for people to focus on what they are supposed to be doing – he makes people easily distracted! When the kids identify which Unthinkable is challenging them, they learn Superflexible Strategies to defeat the Unthinkables.

Eventually the kids will learn about the Thinkables who help you to behave in appropriate ways. You might like to talk to your kids about the SuperFlex characters they are working on in their classroom and what strategies they are using when RockBrain takes control!

Kind Regards

Mr Mat Anderton
