Dear Parents and Friends School Council Update The process for electing the new school council members concluded on Wednesday last week. I am pleased to announce to the community that the following four people are joining school council as parent representatives: Kirstin Hichisson, Fiona Edwards, Linda Taylor and Kate O’Hara. Principal’s Report (Continued)

This table shows you how the principal and school council differ in their responsibilities:

This is just a snapshot of what the school council does. There are other areas that school council are involved in which can depend on what is happening at the school at the time, such as strategic planning every four years. If you would like to communicate with school council on a topic you think should be investigated, the best thing to do is write a letter and give it to the front office. We will then share this with school council members and reply to you. I thank the school council members for their time and dedication to making this an outstanding school. For more information, go to www.education.vic.gov.au and search for School Councils.

KidsMatter and SuperFlex This year one of our key areas that we are focusing on is student wellbeing. Our goal is to ensure that every student feels safe, happy and healthy at school so that they can learn to their maximum potential. Two strategies that we are implementing are KidsMatter and SuperFlex.

The KidsMatter initiative provides us with a framework for understanding what we can do to improve the mental health and wellbeing of the kids. There will be a team of teachers, parents and students who will lead this initiative in the school.

The SuperFlex program is another initiative for teaching kids how to recognise their thoughts, feelings and emotions and how to respond appropriately. It uses a superhero theme with characters called the “Unthinkables” who try to stop our brain thinking clearly. It is up to SuperFlex (the hero) to overcome these Unthinkables to be flexible and responsive to certain problems. It is an engaging way for kids to regulate their thoughts. Such Unthinkables include One-Sided Sid who only talks about himself and his interests, and D.O.F Destroyer of Fun who becomes overly competitive and ruins games.

These are just a few of the initiatives that are happening around the place. No doubt your kids will talk to you about

some of these programs throughout the year.

Kind Regards

Mr Mat Anderton

I have been so lucky to work in a school with such amazing people and look forward to catching up with you all on my visits. Not many people can say they love their job, but I honestly do, especially with the relationships I have made here.

I would like to thank Mrs Harris for organising such a lovely morning tea on Tuesday, and all those that were able to make it. It was very much appreciated.

Thank you all once again. Stuart and Courtney Bastin

Dear Parents,

The Yakkerboo parade this year is on Sunday 17th of April and the parade theme is ‘Living in the 70s.” We would like our float finished by the last week of Term 1. We’re looking for parents who are willing to help. We have banners, kombie van cutouts, and plenty of painting that needs to be done.

If you have a flat bed trailer or flat bed truck that we can use for the parade, please contact Mel Brown or Bree Hynd at the school with the measurements.

We are also looking for donations of old CDs, Records, or large sturdy cardboard boxes or any other 70s items you feel could be useful.

We would like children to be dressed up in 70s themed clothes. This can include afros, flared pants and collars etc. Please be in the lookout for 70s costume items for your child to wear.

Many thanks

Mel Brown and Bree Hynd

Making appointments to see the Principal

It is now requested that all parents who wish to see Mr

Anderton make an appointment at the office. This now

means that you will no longer be able to pop in to the

school and ask if he is free to see you immediately.

Please note that no appointments will be made between

9.00am - 10.00am.

Before making an appointment, please determine

whether or not it is something that can be dealt with by

your child’s classroom teacher, as this is always the

preferred approach.
