MINUTES OF THE SECOND ACADEMIC COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON

16.06.2015 AT 11.30 a.m. IN THE CONFERENCE HALL

The Proceedings of the meeting began with Quirath by Mr. Imdadullah, College

Office (un-aided).

Hon’ble Chairperson of the meeting, Dr. S.A. Sajid, welcomed the august assembly in

tones of touching cordiality and introduced the new Members.

The scholarly assembly then turned to the next item on the Agenda. The minutes of

the previous meeting held on 24th February, 2015, were reviewed and a green signal was

waved approving the resolutions adopted at that meeting.

The attention of the assembly was drawn towards the academic exercise of moving

the newly designed Syllabi for students of U.G. 1st and 2nd years, P.G. 1st and 2nd years and

the M.Phil., Programme in various disciplines.

16. Mr. P. Mohamed Vaseem, HOD of Business Administration, moved the syllabus for

UG I & II year Programme in Business Administration for the academic year 2015 –

2016.

Dr. Prem Nazeer, Distinguished Principal of Islamiah College, Vaniyambadi, wished that

the College should adopt the newly framed UGC guidelines related to Value Education and

Environmental Studies and work out the work load particulars as per the new pattern.

Principal, Dr. S.A. Sajid expressed his grateful thanks to Dr. Prem Nazeer for his

suggestion and informed that he would have a thorough perusal of the UGC guidelines and

do his utmost best for their implementation.

Major. Dr. A. Nazeer Basha, Head, Dept. of Mathematics, needed a clarification on

the award of 5 marks for regularity in student attendance as part of Internal Assessment. Dr.

Prem Nazeer advised to take up the matter in the meetings set exclusively for curricular

development.

The next item on the Agenda happened to be a detailed information required for

inducting new members in the Boards of Studies of different departments. Dr. Prem Nazeer

shed proper light by admitting that new members could be included in consultation with the

Chairman of the Academic Council and Hon’ble Secretary of the College.

Dr. A. Abdul Rahuman, Controller of Examinations (Autonomous Stream) presented

a detailed verbal report on CIA Tests I & II that were conducted as per the Schedule, End

Semester Exams during the Academic year 2014 -2015. Valuation of answer-scripts

pertaining to I U.G. I P.G. and M. Phil. Courses, proceedings of the Pass Board meetings and

the publication of results of Second End Semester Exams on 12th June, 2015. He also

brought to light that a maximum of total 8 marks were awarded to deserving students with

3+3+2 as maximum moderation marks that were extended to only three papers as per the

pattern (3+3+2) shown above (one paper 3 marks, second paper 3 marks and the third paper 2

marks). He explained that the UG, PG and M.Phil., papers will be exposed to single valuation

by External Examiners from the academic year 2015 - 2016.

The suggestion put forth by Dr. Prem Nazeer to extend the facility of issuing the

photocopy of the answer-scripts to students who would apply for it was approved by the

Council.

Dr. M. Farook, HOD of English, desired that the P.G. Papers should have the

privilege of double valuation. But, Dr. Prem Nazeer insisted on single valuation to help

students to check their answer in the photocopy in consultation with the staff concerned. He

also ratified and approved the following issues:

Students can be allowed to apply for revaluation of two papers irrespective of the

number of papers in which they fail to secure the passing minimum.

Students who pass can also apply for revaluation if they are sure that they deserve

more marks.

If a student fails to secure the minimum mark in Internal Assessment, grace marks to

a maximum of 3 or 2 can be awarded in the End semester External Examination to

help him to score the passing minimum.

Dr. A. Abdul Rahuman moved the results of the Examinations held in April, 2015, for

ratification and the results were ratified and approved by the Council.

Dr. Prem Nazeer advised the Chairman of the Council to take steps to improve the

results that fall below 50% and he also wanted the college to arrange for a meeting of

IQAC to improve the results. The Chairman suggested to the members of the Council

to analyse the reasons for poor percentage of passes in certain papers and find proper

solution to improve the results.

The Proceedings came to an end with the member Secretary expressing his grateful

thanks to all the members of the Council for their inspiring presence and valuable

suggestions.

Guidelines to Students

Students are advised to follow the instructions listed below, failing which they will not

be allowed to take the Examinations.

1. They should bring the Hall-Ticket on all the days of the Exam.

2. They should wear the Identity Card as long as they are in the Exam Hall.

3. Cell Phones are strictly banned in the Exam Hall.

4. Students should be in their seats sharp at 9.45 a.m. for all the Examinations in the

forenoon session and at 1.45 p.m. for all the Examinations in the afternoon session.

5. They should keep silence and should not cause any sort of disturbance in the Exam Hall.

6. Those who indulge in malpractice will be severely dealt with.

7. On completion of the Exam, answer - scripts should be handed over to the Hall

Superintendent.

8. Students are not allowed to go out of the Exam Hall during the Exam.

9. Due respect should be given to all other decent norms that govern the Examinations.

10. All the students (U.G & P.G) are advised to receive their Hall Ticket for the ensuring

Semester Examinations from the respective College Office.

Malpractice for the notice of Students

The Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, has listed out

MALPRACTICES by students in the Examinations and CORRESPONDING PUNISHMENTS to be

given to students.

Our College students indulging in any form of Malpractice will be given punishment as per the

details furnished below and as per the guidelines given by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher

Education:

part of the body or on the desk or onany object like scale, calculator etc.

All the answer scripts of the student in theSemester Examination concerned will becancelled.

2. Copying from any of the above. All the earlier written examinations of thestudent in the Semester concerned will becancelled and he will be debarred for one ortwo more Sessions.

3. Helping other students for copying orgetting copy material from others inthe Examination Hall.

Student’s answer book pertaining to the Paperconcerned will be cancelled and he will bedebarred for one more Session.

4. Insertion of answer-sheets broughtfrom outside.

All the Papers answered by the student will becancelled and he will be debarred for two orthree years.

5. Taking away the answer-scriptwithout handing it over to theInvigilator.

All the Papers answered earlier by the studentin the Semester Exam concerned will becancelled.

6. Manhandling or abusing the Personnelconcerned with the ExaminationSection of the College or theInspection Squad or the ExternalAdditional Chief Superintendent.

All the Papers answered by the student in theSemester Exam concerned will be cancelledand he will be debarred for the next three years.

7. Impersonation The Whole Exam taken by the student will becancelled and he will be debarred for the nextthree years.

8. Tampering with Hall-Tickets. Student will not be permitted to appear for anyExamination for two years.

9. Committing malpractice for thesecond time.

The whole Examination taken by the student inthe Semester concerned will be cancelled andhe will be debarred for the next two years.

10. Malpractice in PracticalExaminations.

All the Written Papers of the Student in theconcerned Semester Exam will be cancelledand he will be debarred for two subsequentExaminations.

Students are strictly instructed not to indulge in any form of Malpractice.
