Brazier Quadrant Updates SOUTH EAST QUADRANT of 1 WOODLAWN Update Report as of February 2, 2016 SE Quadrant Three Economic Priorities Access to the TIF funds for small business development Increase of utilization of community assets and facilities Develop economic leadership and public accountability Three Short Range Priorities Economic Priority #1 Attend the Woodlawn Chamber of Commerce planning meetings to stay abreast of all activity relative TIF Funds and small business development projects and resources. Attend 20 th Ward Town Hall meeting for updates on development plans in Woodlawn. Continue to meet with Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) to receive updates on all development plans, both residential and commercial. Three Short Range Priorities Economic priority #2 Promote quadrant activities within senior citizen buildings and provide workshops on internet and computer usage Promote quadrant through 3 rd District Clergy Committees Three Short Range Priorities Economic priority #3 Recruit and invite youth to sit at the table during the SE Quadrants planning process. Outreach the following venues to access targeted group High Schools leadership groups Spoken word events Youth Leadership and Mentoring Programs A Final Thought "I leave you love. I leave you hope. History Retail Opportunities New and Upgraded Infrastructure On City and Private owned land Education and re-education are key to economic renewal in the N.E. Quadrant The old Fiske School Building The new Woodlawn Center for Learning Incubation Services for : apprenticeship programs Volunteer programs: Neighborhoo d clean-up through sustainable gardening Recyclable materials collection After- school tutoring Job training through apprenticeships Provide necessary services - construction, repair, arts, food Hire local managers and employees in order to keep money in community Collaborate with each other to cut costs and reuse materials - creating low waste, green industries. 501(c)3 Umbrella Organization Education and Job Preparedness will reduce crime. What is the approval process for turning ideas into businesses? Who is on the committee for the approval process? How is funding determined? Will the community receive credit and recognition for the ideas that becomes businesses? Will the community be given first rights Who, What and Why Discussing Who the Northwest Quadrant is? What the group want to see happen for and in the quadrant? Why the group finds this work to be important and crucial? Objectives Youth Ages Outcomes Reduce unemployment rate by 50% by July 31, 2019 Benchmark - Year 1.5 = 25% Seniors 55 and older Reduce unemployment rate by 50% - by July 31, 2019 Benchmark Year 1.5 = 25% Objectives (cont.)
