Part II: SRP“Water Shortage”What Is SRP’s Plan To Safegaurd The FutureBy Salt River ProjectContinued from page 1

Salt River Project (SRP) has actively managed water supplies for desert living since its inception. Through the develop-ment of large storage reservoirs, high-ca-pacity groundwater wells and innovative programs to promote the underground storage of water, SRP has demonstrated that drought preparedness is a core pri-ority.

Working both independently and collab-oratively, SRP, Valley municipalities, the Arizona Department of Water Resourc-es and Central Arizona Project continue to strengthen the region against the im-pacts of drought and climate change and ensure that sufficient water is available for future needs.

For SRP, here’s how:

Constant planning for droughtOur hydrologists prepare operations models each year assuming we’re about to start the next 11-year drought of re-cord.

Even two years ago, prior to the much-advertised “Godzilla El Niño” winter event, we planned for lower-quar-tile runoff and were proved correct over the conventional wisdom that expected drought-ending rains. And, as a result of our calculated modeling, SRP reservoirs

were exactly on plan at the end of that poor 2016 El Niño runoff season.

In fact, even after a dismal 2018 winter, the amount of water stored in our reser-voirs is greater than roughly two-thirds of the years since 1950.

Securing new water suppliesSRP is partnering with the Gila River Indian Community to make renewable water supplies available in central Ar-izona for new demands and in times of drought. Through the joint venture with Gila River Water Storage LLC, there is 30,000 acre-feet of CAP water available for 100-year leases and up to 2 million acre-feet of CAP water being stored to earn long-term storage credits. Togeth-er, these supplies equal 50,000 acre-feet per year of renewable water supplies for the next 100 years. To help in times of drought over the next 15 years, up to 100,000 acre-feet of additional CAP wa-ter is available during dry years to meet SRP’s water demands.

C.C. Cragin Reservoir, a 15,000-acre-foot reservoir located on East Clear Creek, was recently acquired by SRP as a water supply source for Payson, northern Gila County communities, Indian water set-tlements and SRP’s customers.

Utility, BOS Meet-ing, And Moving ForwardSupervisor Goodman Addresses Several TopicsBy The Office Of Supervisor GoodmanContinued from page 1

Utility UpdateThe judge who presided over the JU hearing regarding the appointment of interim management will be making rec-ommendations to the ACC commissioners in mid-July. In the meantime, if you are having any difficulties with your utility services, these will need to be report-ed to the ACC (www.azcc.gov), ADEQ (www.azdeq.gov), JU, and Pinal County.

Week in ReviewOver the last couple of weeks our office spent time meeting with and discussing questions from our constituents about roadwork, San Tan Park, and other var-ious topics. Supervisor Goodman would like to remind residents that his door is open to anyone that has questions or con-cerns. If you would like to set up a meeting in person or over the phone, please contact our office at 520-866-8080.

Last week we scheduled ongoing bi-month-ly meetings with the various school dis-tricts in our area. During the last school year we had increased communication and collaboration through these meetings. We look forward to enhancing this partnership even further in the upcoming school year to engage with our youth and promote community involvement. Week AheadIn this week’s board meeting our BOS

(Board Of Supervisors) will take the final step in approving the County budget for the 2018/2019 fiscal year. While the ten-tative budget as a whole was approved at the last board meeting, requests can still be made to reallocate certain funds. Once residual requests have been voted on, the final budget will be set. All residents are able to watch the upcoming board meeting on June 27 at 9:30am online at www.pinal-countyaz.gov.

This week we will also hold a special Plan San Tan meeting specifically for develop-ers and landowners in District 2. We will be discussing the proposed plans and get developer feedback and input on how we can move forward in creating sustainable growth. We believe that if more groups like this come together and have open discus-sions, we can partner in overcoming obsta-cles and influence positive change. We are working to ensure the County website for Plan San Tan is updated with progress in the coming weeks so all residents can stay informed. Moving ForwardLastly, as we move forward, it is time once again for Community meetings to be held across San Tan Valley. We are working to finalize dates and locations for these meet-ings and will communicate these details as they are confirmed. Please reach out to our office with topics you would like to see discussed. We are happy to provide infor-mation regarding construction, economic growth, utility updates, etc. We will also bring in experts from the various County departments to be available for questions. With requests for specific topics to be covered, please reach out via e-mail:[email protected] call our office at:520-866-8080 .STT

SRP Provides An Update On The“Water Shortage”Continued from page 6

Improving the health of the watershedSRP is partnering with environmental, corporate, government and academic interests to improve the health of the water supply through forest restoration, including a recent $400,000 pledge to the Nature Conservancy to assist with forest health projects near Flagstaff and Wil-liams.

Northern Arizona forests are overgrown and highly susceptible to catastrophic fire. The majority of water that flows into SRP’s reservoirs originates from these high-elevation forested lands. By thinning these forests, the watersheds will be protected from damage that oc-curs following catastrophic wildfire.

TechnologySRP is investing in ways to understand

how to develop new water supplies and stretch existing supplies further. These efforts include implementing new tech-nologies, including automated devices,

to better measure and control water deliveries; improving well drilling and aquifer management techniques; reduc-ing outdoor water usage through the use of residential smart irrigation controller devices; and investigating desalinization opportunities.

Additional information is available on SRP’s water website.

Combined, these efforts have and will continue to ensure that SRP is prepared for the impacts of drought and potential water shortages on metropolitan Phoe-nix. SRP will also continue to investi-gate and seek other partnerships to grow available water supplies.

As a 2nd Amendment defender, he will uphold the right of law-abiding citizens to posses and bear arms. Defend 1st Amendment & Religious FreedomsChris believes that the foundation of all good law is morality as enabled by freedom of religion, free speech, and the press. The 1st Amendment is, therefore, the founda-tion of a moral society. This amendment further defends the right of the religious freedom, the right to be non-religious, de-fending those beliefs in the public square, the freedom of the press to inform voters, offer support of or protest against the gov-ernment, and it even protects the right of citizens to offend or criticize private and public institutions and leaders as well as other citizens. Mr. Wendt has a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University but has not attended law school. A law degree, or a legal background, is not a requirement for the Justice of the Peace. For clari-ty, current Justice of the Peace, Shaun Babeu, also does not have a degree in law.
