From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

4th Sunday in Lent: “No longer was there manna for the Israelites, who that year ate of the yield of the land of Canaan.” (Joshua 5:12). Over the forty years that the Israelites journeyed through the desert, God provided them with manna to eat. As soon as they were able to enjoy the fruits of the Promised Land the manna ceased. Likewise, God’s blessings to us may change over the years but it is important to trust that God will always provide us with all that we need.

Joshua 5:9a, 10-12: The exodus had begun with a celebration of Passover, and it ends with the same feat. Immediately after celebrating this Passover, the manna that God had provided to feed the Israelites on their journey ceases. They now have a rich land, a land flowing with “milk and honey,” to provide for them. God no longer needs to supply their daily sustenance, but gives them the resources to provide for themselves. This passage reminds us of the graciousness of God, who provides for our every need.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21: The reconciliation of humankind and God made is possible not by anything we have done, but by Christ. Indeed, Paul says that God chooses not to count our transgressions against us, as we deserve. Instead, Jesus, who was sinless, takes on responsibility for our sins. By placing our faith in him, we are made right with God. Paul recognizes that the gift of reconciliation is freely given but also knows that his readers have the responsibility to accept the gift and make it real.

Luke 15:1-3, 11-32: The opening verses suggest that the question of judgment of others is the real point of the story. The older son is unable to forgive and rejoice. Although he has done what is right, his heart is in the wrong place. For many of us who sincerely strive to lead upright lives, the story of the older brother hits home. We too are tempted to feel “holier than thou” when we encounter others who do not strive as hard as we do to live the moral life.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

Come Now, O Word of God

Fill our minds, that we may hear Your wisdom; Touch our lips, that we may speak Your truth;

Hold our hearts, that we may always follow You; Come Now, O Word of God.

(repeat)

KYRIE (Jesus, the Compassion of God)

1) Kyrie eleison, eleison, Kyrie. Kyrie eleison, eleison, Kyrie.

2) Christe eleison, eleison, Christe. Christe eleison, eleison, Christe.

3) Kyrie eleison, eleison, Kyrie. Kyrie eleison, eleison, Kyrie.

Wholly Living (by Ann Hurley)

I am waking, I am willing, I am open, sacred love.

For my being is your dwelling, Wholly living, Holy Love.

PRAYER OF BELIEF – John Shea

We believe that where people are gathered together in love, God is present and good things happen and life is full.

We believe that we are immersed in mystery, that our lives are more than they seem, that we belong to each other and to a universe of great creative energies whose source

and destiny is God.

We believe that God is after us, that God is calling to us from the depth of human life.

We believe that God has risked Self and became man in Jesus… In and with Jesus we believe that each of us is situated in the love of God

and the patterns of our life will be the pattern of Jesus - through death to Resurrection.

We believe that the Spirit of Peace is present with us, the Church, as we gather to celebrate our common existence the resurrection of Jesus, and the fidelity of God.

And most deeply we believe that in our struggle to love, we incarnate God in the world.

And so aware of mystery and wonder, caught in friendship and laughter, we become speechless before the joy in our hearts and celebrate the sacredness of life

in the Eucharist. Amen

BOOKS FOR ‘PROJECT READ’: We ( QAC) are collecting gently used books for school aged children ( pre-school to third grade) at Ruskin School. Maria Rivera will distribute these to her classes at Ruskin at the end of the school year for their summer reading. Please bring to the QAC vestibule marked for Maria. Thank you.

VERY LARGE ‘THANK YOU’: We received a ‘Thank You’ from Elizabeth’s New Life Center for the 2015 ‘Giving Tree’ project. It is estimated that the gifts given to them for distribution from QAC and all the organizations involved were valued at $59,418.49. Support from QAC and other organizations allow them to serve their clients for many months to come. Many thanks! Tim Stonecash, Director of Development..

NEW RE COORDINATOR: Maggie Atkinson has decided this is her last year as Religious Ed Coordinator. We are now tasked with finding a replacement. If you have an interest in this position, please email Mary Rice, [email protected], to express your interest. The position will officially open at the end of February but the committee wanted members of the community to have some time to prayerfully consider this job before it is opened up outside of QAC. Questions? Contact Mary Rice, Lisa Measures, Lisa Nordmeyer, Linda Skinner or Deacon Greg.

HUNGERING TO LEARN: We journey with CRS Rice Bowl to the Central American country of Honduras, where we meet students who are learning that it’s better to help your neighbor learn and grow than to leave him or her behind. To whom are we called to extend a hand this week? Visit crsricebowl.org for more.

HUNGER SOLIDARITY CHALLENGE: Imagine you have only $4 a day for food – the national average “food stamp” benefit! Weavers of Justice, the social justice collaborative of Dayton-area parishes, encourages you to participate in a Hunger Solidarity Challenge any week in Lent. This effort helps to raise awareness of the challenges people on low incomes face as they struggle to avoid hunger, eat nutritious foods, and stay healthy with limited resources, Please include in your “allowance” all food purchased and eaten during the week ($28 per person). This includes dining out, food given to you, or food you already have at home. An additional way to stand in solidarity with the region’s low-income residents is to walk to neighborhood places that sell food, such as drug stores, dollar-type stores and gas stations. Stand in solidarity with those who are hungry throughout the Archdiocese of Cincinnati! Donate the money you save to CRS Rice Bowl, your church’s hunger program or food pantry, or the Dayton Foodbank. For more information contact the Catholic Social Action Office, 937-224-3026 (x5018) or email [email protected].

YET ANOTHER ‘THANK YOU’: Archbishop Schnurr sends his thanks and deep appreciation for the $755 donation to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development last year. Information on this project may be found at www.catholiccincinnati.org/socialaction. From crisis pregnancy to environmental justice projects to youth empowerment, the impact of these dollars have in our local communities is real and measurable. Many Thanks! - Tony Stieritz, Director. ST. VINCENT DONATIONS: Bring any useable clothing to the chapel vestibule any Sunday or drop off in marked cabinets in the hallway near the Teen Room outside Si Lounge. February request: Protein bars and bottled juices (apple, cranberry, grape, etc.) made with all juice, please (no added sugars). Contact Margie/Tom Hudnell, [email protected], or 429-0320.

HANGARTNERS WORK IN MALAWI, AFRICA: Please pray for Thomas & Elisabeth Hangartner, who are in Malawi supervising the renovation of the Kaseye Community Hospital and training of hospital staff in the use of the x-ray equipment installed by the Wright State University Students in past years. They are also overseeing the scholarship program they established to help needy students. If you wish to donate to the non-profit organization the Hangartners founded to help raise funds for these projects, make checks payable to "Change and Be Changed" care of Chris Sitko or Jack Simpson. Another way to financially assist the Malawi Projects is by renting their condo in Switzerland (see poster in the vestibule). They are expected back in March and will lead another delegation of WSU students to install more equipment in the hospital in May. Thanks to those of you who have supported these Malawi projects.
