INVESTOR ATTENDEE BREAKDOWN

The 3rd edition of the 121 Mining Investment Cape Town summit taking place at Welgemeend on the 6-7 February was the largest edition yet. 64 mining corporates joined this year, an increase of over 50% indicating that both the sentiment in the market is coming back and that the 121 format is a preferred format for many companies.

Over 200 investors attended the event this year further highlighting the turn in the industry and that active investors are now looking more closely at good projects. The event welcomed institutional investors and private equity as well as family offices, metals traders and major miners like Rio Tinto, Newcrest and Newmont all looking for new opportunities from our mining corporates.

Taking place the same week as Indaba our event has proven that there is a market for a forum focussed only on miners and investors, where the only suppliers are a few select sponsors.

This year we saw a record of 15 pre-arranged meetings per mining corporate prior to the event. In addition to these were the hundreds of ad-hoc meetings that took place within the main meeting area as well as throughout the beautiful grounds of the venue.

Alongside the meeting area was the two-day conference that continued to attract a superb line-up of investment speakers interchanged with the mining corporates 10 minute presentations. The conference not only allows delegates to get a picture of the mining investment industry from expert investors but also allows them to get a taster of each mining company.

We would also like to thank our many sponsors for the event who help make the event the success it is, in particular our Gold Sponsors, ASX, Beaufort Securities, Behre Dolbear, finnCap, Gowling WLG, Outotec, SP Angel and TMX.

This event will only continue to go from strength to strength and we look forward to seeing you in Cape Town in 2018.

“Congratulations on hosting 121 Mining Investment in Cape Town. I found it well hosted, well run and the informal setting a welcome relief from the typical conference/exhibition hall. Overall the number of miners in attendance combined with the less formal setting resulted in a very worthwhile and valuable two days.”

Luke Smith, Portfolio Manager, Australian Super

“The 121 conference is a must attend for investors to meet new companies and those looking for an update on companies they already know. The setup of a series of short, private meetings in one place means you can have a dozen high quality meetings per day, further boosted by effective and targeted networking. The booking system is very efficient and informative making sure you see all those people and companies most relevant to you. And now with a conference in each major continent it has all grounds covered.”

Pim Kalisvaart, Hawke’s Point Capital

“Great presentations, companies and attendees. Has everything anyone interested in investing in mining could ask for. Great job.”

Peter Major, Director Mining, Cadiz Corporate Solutions

“The event was great, the best in Cape Town so far, I really appreciated your team’s assistance in ensuring I could see all the companies I needed to, and making it so convenient from an investor point of view.”

Amanda van Dyke, Fund Manager, Peterhouse Asset Management

“The 121 summits are particularly useful as there are only projects/development companies and potential investors present. In that sense there is a clear focus and no other distractions such as service providers promoting their company’s. Even though I was

only there for 6 hours, including lunch, I managed to connect with 8 different projects, 5 by previous arranged appointments and 3 ad hoc which I met there by chance.”

Mike Brown, Pala Investments

“Very professional and well organised event with a growing list of quality companies. The event was enhanced by a great booking system for meetings and interesting forums with top industry figureheads.”

James Wood, Winterflood Securities

“Brilliantly organised, well done.”

Luke Leslie, Principal, Sandown Bay Capital

“The 121 events are exceptionally well organised and in a perfect format for facilitating meaningful discussion between investors and mining companies. Larger, high quality attendance at each event speaks to the value of the conferences for those investing in the mining sector.”

Tim Aldersley, RK Capital Management

“The high quality of the management teams was in evidence at this year’s summit in Cape Town. Terrific access in a collegial environment. Looking forward to your next summit.”

Matt Fifield, Pacific Road Capital

“The latest 121 event in Cape Town was an excellent opportunity to meet many of the junior companies that have fled the Indaba conference due to high costs and the mixture of suppliers with investors. The 121 format matches only companies with investors and, as such is extremely successful and in a very pleasant setting also.”

David Netherway, Altus Strategies

“Definitely a very useful get together and a very efficient format. Congrats for the significant increase in size over time!”

Thomas Lagree, Director, Precious Metals, BNP Paribas

“It was a really good week and we found the 121 meetings very useful. It was a very good event with everything well organised.”

David Freeland, Concord Resources

“A very worthwhile and exceptionally well run conference.”

Metals Trader

“In a global industry where time is in limited supply, 121 provides a highly efficient forum for investors and miners to engage in intensive courtship. Found the two days highly productive with hardly any dead time… a must for mining PE funds.”

Mark Sawyer, Partner, Greenstone Resources

“121 Cape Town has come a long way in its short three year existence, and now offers a very worthwhile platform to engage effectively with senior management from a large number of relevant companies. Well done!”

Mike Stirzaker, Partner, Pacific Road Capital

“I think it was a great conference and significantly more value to me than the Indaba conference which has become more of a trade show. I would recommend investors and corporates prioritise 121 over Indaba. The format of 30 minute meetings in the meetings tent is a great way to get the most out of the gathering of mining investors and corporates. 30 minutes gives time for an overview but allows coverage of a lot of ground and the meeting booking platform is a great way to plan ahead of the event.”

Duncan Hughes, Mining & Metals Analyst, Somers & Partners

“I think the event was very well organised, and well attended by a good mixture of private equity / institutional funds and mining companies, alike. I think after three years of running this conference, it is really coming into its own and is getting a very well

interconnected and symbiotic list of participants. The 121 summit is very much a preferred forum for its convenient environment for one to one meetings, as well as casual, unscheduled meetings with colleagues and clients that happen to be in attendance.”

Brett Richards, Richards Enterprises

“Great conference, well-organised and a lovely setting. I found it really easy to meet who I wanted to meet.”

Caroline Donally, Director, Denham Capital

“I attended the Cape Town 121 Mining Investment conference in February 2017. The event was well conducted in a unique format, whereby you can engage with the companies that you have sufficient interest in, by planning a half hour one-on-one meeting in a relaxed informal setting on the side lines of the conference. The conference provided a valuable source of information and allowed me to interact with a selection of companies’ executives and investors, some I knew well and others I did not. I will definitely attend another 121 Mining Investment event in the near future.”

Rob Brierley, Head of Research, Patersons Securities

“Always a great format and venue, saw plenty of worthwhile companies and some good presentations and panels. Will be there again next year”

Ben Davis, Analyst, Liberum

“The 121 Cape Town conference has over the last years certainly developed into one of the top events for mining investment. Extremely good opportunity for junior miners and investors/financiers to connect with each other.”

Annette Buttner, Thyssenkrupp

“The conference was incredibly useful. I have been to numerous mining conferences, but they all follow the same general format of display/billboard advertising where you go to an enormous expense to set up a booth to attract investors, only to be inundated by service providers trying to solicit business. While quite hectic, your conference format provided a targeted forum to meet up directly with investors in an intimate forum. Because of this unique approach, I will be sure to sign up for other 121 events.”

Craig Scherba, President & CEO, Energizer Resources

“The 121 Cape Town conference is a magical event set amongst the verdant gardens of a historic Cape farm. It’s more like turning up for a wedding to meet old friends than attending a conference. The charm imbued translates into an environment in which thoughts and proposals flow.”

John Meyer, SP Angel

“121 Mining Investment in Cape Town continues to provide the best forum for meeting investors and is superbly organised – we look forward to next year!”

Frazer Tabeart, CEO, African Energy Resources

“We thought last year was good, but 2017 excelled in all regards! Well done to you and all at 121.”

Matthew Yates, OreCorp

“Having attended the inaugural 121 events and recently attended Cape Town conference, I am convinced it’s the best forum on the conference circuit to meet the leading funds and institutions”

Andrew Spinks, CEO, Kibaran Resources

“We made some very useful contacts, and advanced our business considerably. We value the format that you offer.”

Jeremy Crozier, President, Volcanic Gold Mines

“A very worthwhile event with the right spirit of capital meeting projects.”

Luis da Silva, GB Minerals

“121 is the place to be, if you are a company or investor. Success breeds success and 121 has exploded on the scene and if you are not represented as a company or investor, you will surely miss out on investment and other opportunities. The format is a return to the original concept for companies to show their wares to informed investors and to other companies, giving the parties the opportunity of sitting down and properly engaging with management. 121 tells you what’s on the packet and then serves it up to you.”

Andrew Wright, Gowling WLG

“Battery Minerals attended another excellent forum and event managed by 121; this time in Cape Town. The format ensures that you are informed prior to each meeting with your preselected parties, importantly their credentials and interest. This serves to ensure the interplay during the 30 minutes of engagement is focussed and very effective for all participants.”

David Riekie, GM – Corporate, Battery Minerals

“Beaufort were delighted by the number of investors that were present at this year’s 1-2-1 conference. It was pleasing that as the number of exhibiters increased so did the number of potential investors. A very productive conference.”

Jon Belliss, Beaufort Securities

“The 121 Cape Town summit greatly exceeded our expectations. Whilst the meeting planner may have appeared daunting at first, it was easy to use and I was ably assisted by yourselves to get the most out of the planner. The format is terrific for a junior exploration company as you have the full attention of investors at each meeting without the white noise of a booth. We look forward to attending next year.”
