Red Hat...and many other IoT implementations,” says Lee Miles, General Manager, Middle East and Africa, Red Hat. “IoT requires data centre functionality to be moved to the network edge, which makes products such as Red Hat JBoss Fuse, Red Hat JBoss BRMS, and Red Hat JBoss BPM Suite attractive options for integration, policy development and enforcement, and process management respectively.”

The company will be also be showcasing Red Hat Access Insights, an operations analytics service, which was unveiled earlier this year. The service leverages the technical expertise of Red Hat Certified Architects and the vendor’s customer support team to enable proactive systems management for private and hybrid

cloud environments.Miles also highlights that various

trend that has impacted the ICT industry in past year still progressing in 2016. “For Red Hat, these include big data, cloud computing, development and application development, container and open source, and OpenStack,” explains Miles. “Open source is becoming increasingly popular in the region, not just because of its cost-effectiveness and lack of vendor lock-in, but also because customers are finding that it results in better innovation and flexibility. Enterprises and SMBs are beginning to test the waters with open source and consider investing. Companies are moving away from the unsupported community versions of JBoss, OpenStack, OpenShift and Fedora to our enterprise-class offerings.”

The Red Hat GM further discusses the growing momentum and interest from enterprises

around Linux container technology. He points out that Linux containers are more efficient than traditional hypervisor-based virtualisation mechanisms. “Red Hat has again been on top of this trend with its contribution to projects, such as Project Atomic and the development of Enterprise OpenShift, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux products.

“On another note, Big data is also another focus for various organisations,” shares Miles. “The traditional data life cycle is changing as Hadoop moves into the enterprise and organisations now require an open, agile approach to succeed with the new data life cycle. Red Hat and Cloudera have an alliance to deliver joint enterprise software solutions, including data integration and application development tools.”

Miles also highlights various developments in the application space, explaining that DevOps has become a popular concept. “We expect that Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) will become increasingly used in 2016 to help maximise the benefits of DevOps and this will throw up opportunities for Red Hat,” he adds.

“The Middle East IT industry is on a healthy growth curve as enterprises leverage technology to enable their businesses. As the region’s largest ICT trade show, GITEX gives us direct exposure to some of the industry’s most influential business decision-makers. Every year the event, draws trade visitors, partners and customers from regions across and beyond the Middle East, and it is such a great venue to connect with our associates and current and potential customers,” concludes Miles.

Intel Security is highlighting its broad portfolio of security offerings during GITEX Technology Week.

The company is underlining various solutions that they can provide to their customers in the lines of virtualisation, Big Data, mobility and business continuity. While there are no specific aspects of one solution that they’d be showcasing, they are aiming to help CIOs and CEOs address various challenges in these areas. The firm also highlighted that they believe in integrating these solutions all together for a better security implementation.

Hamed Diab, Regional Director, Middle East, Intel Security, says, “GITEX is such a great platform for the Middle East technology industry, as it allows people to witness and experience the latest innovations there is. We are in a new world of virtualisation, cloud, security and infrastructure, and all this come together in one form here at GITEX. This is important for because we get to engage with people from various countries around the region who visits this event whether they are customers, channel partners and solutions provider.

“It is also important for us because through the event, we get to speak and interact with our customers, distributors, resellers, channel partners and more. In addition, we can keep spreading awareness about various cyber security issues surrounding the industry and how we can help them address these problems.”

Diab further underlines their core focus saying that Intel Security believes that security is not only about the technology and solutions. It is also about the people within organisations and ensuring that they are educated and well-trained on what and how they properly utilise their

defense technologies. He also highlights that aside

from the technologies and the people, organisations should also make sure that the processes of carrying out the security solutions are kept in check. “Whether it be enterprise or SME, they need to have a clear structure as to how and when a specific solution should be applied. The most challenging part about security is the ensuring the appropriate response time and action when dealing with an attack while also guaranteeing that the business is still running smoothly. So, this is a matter of an organisation being capable enough to deal with real-time threats, and this is something that we’d also like to highlight GITEX.”

Speaking about the upcoming trends in the IT space impacting the Middle East, Diab states that the UAE is very advanced in terms of almost every aspect of technology. “Cyber security is a big trend in that aspect. Although, these technologies vary from one market to another. The UAE, especially Dubai, is leading in that space in this region.”

reputable presence in the market and that’s why they have an extensive network around multiple countries in the region. To empower channel, you need ease of doing business, which Mindware brings on the table and additionally you need reliable technologies, which is what we are offering from Unify. Combined together – reliable products, good technology and ease of business are the key elements that the market is looking for,” he adds.

As a value-added distributor, Mindware’s key objective is to simplify solutions around the technology. As Unified Communications is a growing segment, it is necessary to bring in the right solutions into this space.

The distributor has launched ‘Mindware Academy’ at GITEX this year, with the aim to not only do product trainings but also to create synergies across the products.

“Unify will be part of the Mindware Academy and also will be part of the integration process,” says Gay.

Over the next few months, we will see the distributor beginning its channel recruitment drive, which will be focused on countires where it has a local presence such as UAE, KSA, Kuwait, Qatar and Lebanon.

“We will bring in the new channel programme of Unify and go to the two-tier model and ensure that partners are excited about the products in the next couple of months.”

Microsoft Gulf is drawing special attention to its education services

and solutions at GITEX Technology Week.

The company has a range of programmes that it is driving across the GCC, with its office 365 services being offered free of charge to schools. “In the Middle East we have around 8 million on the platform in the education sector, and 1.6 million in the Gulf,” says Ahmed Ameen, Education Lead, Microsoft Gulf.

Microsoft is set to deploy 80,000 of its devices – also featuring Office 365 IDs - in Kuwaiti secondary schools this year, and the company is launching its

e-School Bag initiative in Qatar, where the traditional contents of a child’s bag can be accessed via a tablet device.

“It’s a simple way of digitising a school bag, which has books and notes,” Ameen says. “The average bag of a school child weighs 6kg and this doesn’t make sense. At home they’re using touchscreens, tablets, smart TVs and Xbox’s. They have all these technologies at home but they go to school and things are relatively primitive and they still carry this weight. This is the beginning of digitisng key learning, where the

smart device allows for interactive learning. For example, chemistry lessons can be taught with technology to make things more interactive and informative.”

Ameen believes GITEX is a pivotal event for the firm’s education drive. “Microsoft global has had a major focus on the education sector for the last four to five years. With initiatives coming from the government around education, such as the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Learning initiative, there is a clear desire to make progress in regional education IT.”

Commvault and Pacific Controls have announced a strategic alliance. Jointly the companies will offer Middle East organisations the first-ever offering of hosting, managed services and data protection.

Pacific Controls owns and operates Middle East’s largest data centre campus based in Dubai. Commvault will provide

data protection and management capabilities for customers using Pacific Controls Cloud Services (PCCS), an enterprise-class cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution offered directly to customers via an intuitive self-service portal, and also delivered in conjunction with PCCS broad portfolio of managed services.

As adoption of cloud infrastructures continues to grow, service providers need to build solutions that are automated, flexible and simple to address end-user client needs, all while reducing their infrastructure costs, enhancing staff productivity, and accelerating time-to-revenue. Commvault has designed its software to be an open cloud data

management platform offering broad integration with multiple applications, operating systems, hypervisors, and storage systems.

The Commvault and Pacific Controls alliance delivers a revolutionary approach to cloud data protection. As organizations shift towards IT-as-a-service models, the need for protecting data residing across physical, virtual, and now cloud environments grows with it. Commvault can ensure protection of customer data -- whether in a private cloud, a service provider delivered public cloud, or a hybrid cloud environment – across the heterogeneous enterprise, cut costs, scale easily.

“Pacific Controls are pioneers

in the region for offering collocation and cloud services through their Tier III Design and facility certified, ISO27001:2013 certified data centre. They are IT trailblazers and have built a very strong foundation to offer hosting services for the rapidly growing market in the UAE. Commvault software provides the data protection, recoverability and pay-as-you-go licensing options PCCS requires to deliver high availability and access to business-critical applications that meet customer service level requirements,” said Bassam Hemdan, Area VP MESAT, Commvault.

The announcement was made at GITEX 2015 and the combined offering will be available immediately.
